Wind blowing through hair Phu Ninh Lake by moto-bike A picnic lunch too! Literally just got back from a day at Phu Ninh Lake with the "girls" (minus Bridget) and Mrs. Hanh and her husband Mr. Nguyen. I had a super fun time. After settling the monies we were off to the internet and here I sit right now..still sitting here..yup, still sitting here. haha Okay, I won't give a blow by blow account from this moment forward. Plus the pressure is on to get this entry into my blog because Hannah just can't wait to see what I have to write! But Hannah doesn't have any email right now and doesn't feel like hanging around any longer so she will check in later. Phew! A little less pressure! LOL Our adventures to Phu Ninh Lake ... read more

Email pal for my Best Friend. Criteria to meet: * Daily email correspondence. Does not need to be long winded. Point form ideal. * Must be able to write about a variety of scatological topics. Top topics would be Travel and shopping finds/bargains. * Computer with internet connection. * Good sense of humour. * If you're a single male..even better! * If you have a toll free number this may lead to phone correspondence. LOL Inquire within. I was thinking that when I leave Tam Ky I will not likely be going onto the internet on a daily basis, so I thought I should post the above "wanted ad" so that Anita is not left with an empty mailbox. Gosh, I’m so thoughtful! :) On that note... Only one week left. Will be sad to say ... read more

Hey, hey! Not much has happened in the last 18 hours. But you know me, I will write about anything. :) Well, last night I was a little too late getting back to the house because the gate was locked! DOH! No worries though because I've had previous experience before climbing over the wall and it is not too high. Just as I was about to jump down, Mr. Binh, the security guard shows up at his door. He starts laughing at me..where were you 30 seconds earlier?? Too funny. I had my first class this morning at the Vocational Training Centre. We did our review of opposites which went over well. There are some students that really know their stuff and then others that are less confident. This means the ones that know their stuff ... read more

Internet has really been acting up today. It is oh so frustrating when you see that you have new messages but then are unable to access them. It's like the internet is playing games me..such a tease! haha I can't believe that is it mid-week already. Monday was a lethargic one for me. I think it all started with that Vietnamese language lesson. You know, the one where I was beginning to wonder if I have attention deficit disorder (BTW, I think I have confirmed that after today's lesson!) I really would like to learn more Vietnamese but am seriously lacking in motivation at the moment. Anyway, my lethargic day just went downhill from that language lesson. We were all going to go to Khach San (hotel) to dance but nobody was really that keen since ... read more

Even with the less than stellar bathroom without hot water, it was nice to be back in Tam Ky after a wonderful weekend in Hoi An. Being in Tam Ky has really shed light on what it is like living day-to-day in Vietnam. It was kind of weird being in touristy Hoi An this weekend and you know what? I don't really like the tourists! LOL But I still enjoyed myself and I’m not just talking about the shopping! Oh where to start since I haven't written in a few days now! So much to tell! I guess my last real entry was back on Thursday. Let's see..the afternoon class at the Vocational Training Centre was pretty much the same as the morning class except fewer students which is nicer. I had walked to class since ... read more

Despite my calamitous introduction to cycling in Vietnam, I was soon remounting the spokes to trekk off to more remote regions. Relief from the harassing calls of moto-bike drivers was an additional benefit. And so, I set off to visit a reknowned pagoda, which turned out to be under reconstruction. At any rate, I was enjoying my ride so much, I decided to continue on down the dirt track, all the way out of the city limits, and into some of the surrounding towns. In a matter of meters, I saw the world around me transform. Always a keen observer of the youth around me, I noticed the kids more than anything. Three little girls shouted gleefully in play as they tended a small shop. A hoard of 5 year olds gathered around to watch one ... read more

I am in Hoi An. Tailormade Clothing is cheap. Did not break budget! Can you believe that I have not been on the internet since Thursday afternoon! What is this world coming to when I don't go online for one day?? haha This will be a short one since the connection here in Hoi An is really, really slow...if it is slower than Tam Ky than that means it is slow! So much to tell but that will have to wait until Monday. I will tell you this though. I picked out material for clothes to be made and I tried them on this afternoon. They will make a few alterations and it will hopefully all be ready to take "home" tomorrow. I can't believe that I bought a suit (jacket, pants and skirt), a cord ... read more

Thursday already! Today I have two classes to teach at the Vocational Training Centre. Already had my morning class with the girls. One point five hours Attention span is going Let us play a game! Today at the VTC I introduced opposites to the girls. Up/Down. Above/Below. Tall/Short. You get the idea. I think it went over well. Basically we went over each pair. Then I had them repeat the groupings of words together as a group and then individually. Then I pulled out the flashcards I had made up to quiz them some more. They didn't quite get it at first. I held up the first card and they would repeat the word. Then I'd ask them what the opposite of that word was..they kept repeating the same word over. So I had to flip ... read more

Well, mid-week already. A nice sunny day Baby Orphanage again... Feeling some heartbreak. It's fun playing with the kids at the Baby Orphanage and then helping with the feeding of the younger kids. BUT sometimes when you think about the whole situation it is a bit heartbreaking. I sometimes wonder how these kids will be in a few years time. Where will they go when they are too old for the Baby Orphanage. They really need more clothes since a lot of the clothes they wear have rips and tears in them. I was talking to one of the volunteers here and we were thinking that we should go out and buy them more clothes from the Markets here. We've also been told they need more baby formula. Today we did the usual colouring. We cut ... read more

NOT! Well, another exciting day in Tam Ky. I did end up doing some of my laundry yesterday. Now I'm just wondering how many days it will take for all of it to dry! LOL Yesterday afternoon was nice and sunny so Claire, Karen and I decided to venture off to the beach since Karen hasn't had a chance to go there yet. Since I had done my laundry and washed two of my three pairs of pants I was wearing a knee length skirt. We head down to pick up our bikes..Hmm, this is not going to work! Great, now I have to wear my thick denim jeans! So I put those on and folded them up to make them capri length..quite the fashion statement! LOL Soon enough we set out on our bike ride ... read more
