Alright, a few things have happened since I last updated, but I'm in a bit of a hurry so I'll update in point form! - Left Laos to Bangkok on the Thai-Laos Friendship Bridge, very very quick and easy border crossing - Stayed on Khao San 1 night(spent too much money shopping in that time) before heading back to Koh Tao for the 3rd time =D - Started our Advanced Open Water Diving Course which consisted of 5 dives - First dive was a deep dive to 30m, very fun, great visibility - Second dive was a navigation dive. Coral and I got lost doing a compass exercise, but all worked out well and we got to explore the dive site on our own, although followed by a divemaster - Third dive was a night dive. ... read more

We've had this article cued for a long time now - Might as well give it light of day! We stayed on Koh Tau for about 4 nights and went there in order to do a bit of diving. From what I remember this was a bit of a let-down, and far far less professional than diving in Cairns or NZ - quite a bit cheaper as well, but it did show. Anyway I'll stop the negativity but just warn people that if you're going to go diving on Koh Tau you shouldn't expect too much, and from what we saw I wouldn't really recommend it as a place to learn, but it would be a good place to put a few entries in the log-books without having to shell out too much. The island itself ... read more

Hi guys! I'm not too sure how long it has been since we have posted, but I know we are well over due for an update. Since the last post we have attended the Full Moon Party, left Koh Phangen and traveled to Koh Tao. The Full Moon Party was stellar... we went to Haad Rin (the party beach) at about 12:30am, and as soon as we stepped off the boat we were lost in a sea of people. There must have been about 10,000 people on a beach less than kilometer long. Each bar along the beach had super huge speakers so whenever you walked down the beach the music would change from bar to bar. Most of the night I partied on the beach, but when I did go in to the bars, they ... read more

Sawasdee Kraa! Not sure if I mentioned this before, but Koh Tao means Turtle Island. It is named this for its shape. But if you look at a map, it in no way resembles a turtle... ...and just yesterday, I was lucky enough to get to swim with a turtle! Yes, I'm finally over my island illness (thanks to everyone for the advice) and I was able to go SCUBA diving. How could I not, when it is one of the premiere dive sites in the world? I haven't been under the sea in a few years, so don't worry Mom, I took an afternoon refresher course. My instructor, I do believe, is the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen in my life. All the dive instructors are... I think it's a pre-requisite. Anyway, we went ... read more

Hello, So the Thai masseuse medicine man didn't heal me. But I went to this dodgy little clinic down a little dirt road yesterday. I walked in, started crying out of pure exhaustion and told the nurse I had tummy troubles. And without even asking my name, where I was from, what I had eaten or what other meds I might be taking, she quickly prescribed three things: antibiotics, charcoal pills (to absorb any bacteria or parasite) and pain killers. I guess she sees this allllllll the time with dumb Westerners. I don't know if it's the peace of mind or the pills, but I felt better within the hour. Don't get me wrong - I haven't been deathly ill 24/7 for the entire time. It would come in waves. I'd be fine, then I'd go ... read more

Day three of food poisoning. This is the most horrible place to feel like this. Why? 1. It's so gorgeous. 2. This is the place I wanted to be the most. 3. I have to climb 100 stairs to get to my cottage... (walking 5 steps is a major task) 4. It's so damn hot, there is no air conditioning Last night I woke up with cold sweats. How that's possible in this heat is beyond me. Then I woke up cooking. Thank heavens they only have cold showers here. I tossed and turned in agony -- it feels like there's a lobster chewing on my stomach lining. (Something I came up with while hallucinating.) I watched bad HBO movies dubbed in Thai, with English subtitles. That, and Chinese television. I woke up feeling a touch ... read more

I apologize, this one will be a quickie as internet time is twice the cost as it is in Bangkok... I am now in Koh Tao, one of the little islands off the coast of Thailand. I do believe I've found paradise... but not without some bumps along the way. Left Bangkok a few days ago on the overnight train to Surat Thani. This time, no air conditioning. Picture it: a train speeding down the tracks with doors and windows WIDE open. Uh huh. This would never happen in North America. One quick stop and you could have flown out. No lie! I grabbed the top bunk to avoid a possible tragedy. The pollution was unbearable. Arrived in Surat Thani at about 8 am, where we caught a public bus to Kao Sok national park. This ... read more

So Hello for the last time on this world trip. It has been an amazing journey and truly an experience of a lifetime. Many thanks to all those who have been following our progress and keeping us in touch with the rest of the world whilst we travelled. Koh Tao was by far our favourite place in Thailand. A very small island, where we stayed in the main village. Not too touristy, but with some great restaurants, although they all seemed to be shamelessly aimed at us with names like Farangos (farang means foreigner in Thai), El Gringos and Whitening. The plan was to wind down whilst in paradise, but in reality we managed 10 minutes of sitting on a beach and spent the rest of the time diving and snorkelling. The diving was mostly fantastic ... read more

Little turtle island is awesome. Loved it. Like all other visitors i arrived on this island for the sole purpose of scuba. Lured here by the ever powerful and influential guide books selling the island as the mecca of scuba divers i booked a 5 day Padi course & totally enjoyed it loved it, met some great people and was really bowled over at how amazing the environment is down there. There was alittle bit of fear and apprehension with the thought of your life being in the hands of a tiny steel tank strapped to your back & adapting to breathing through a regulator at deep depths but like anything involving fear the rewards afterwards and the adrenaline are well worth it. We were extremely lucky on our course, we had perfect conditions of 30m ... read more
