I'm still not the biggest fan of Thailand, but I have to say that Ko Mak was really nice. I stayed at the Green View resort, which was quite isolated from the rest of the tiny island. I sat on the little dock every day and I was the only one there. Peace and quiet at last. That's the huge downer about some of the bigger islands... I don't want to go to and island to be bombarded by drug infused techno beach parties. I don't want to be surrounded by people and feel alone. I want to be alone and feel at peace. I want to feel like the island is my own private paradise. And that's what Ko Mak felt like. The water was blue and beautiful... so blue that it was hard to ... read more

Geen Koh Kut (what's in name) geworden.

... read more

So Kimani found his happy place on Koh Chang; and we've found it on Koh Mak. I can see why Jenny loves to spend her free time here. This is one of the most amazing places I've ever been. It ranks right up their with Cayman and Jamaica. The speed boat dropped us off right at our hotel and we headed to reception to check in. It was an open air desk, with sand floors. The layout of the bungalows was really cool. The fancy ones were in the front with a beach view and had hot water and air con. They had cheaper bungalows with private baths and fans, and then even cheaper ones with a shared bath. We decided we were ballin', even after the accident, and went for the Gorilla Cabins for a ... read more

I spent two days kayaking around Ko Mak (Koh Maak). Total of about 7 hours in the kayak. Most of the island is flat with sand beach, wooded rocky shoreline or mangrove. The western end is steep cliffs with a few small pocket beaches but this was only an hour or so. Winds were out of the north to west both days and were strong enough to be a consideration when route planning. The south side of the island was flat seas although due to the irregular shape of the island there were some areas where the wind was in my face and the water was a bit bouncy. The west side was rough. Most of the north was a little bouncy but the nearby islands and irregular shape of Ko Mak keeps the fetch low ... read more
