I've been to Thailand many times..... but never actually had a beach holiday there. I thought it wasn't for me. Ha ha! It's been so good to really relax, eat, drink, sleep , watch spectacular sunsets and hear the gentle swish of the waves on the beach just ten paces from our room, and enjoy the good company and conversation of my fellow travellers, Susan and Lisa. We arrived on Christmas Day and left on New Year's Day. And every day is just a day and doesn't need marking on the calendar. In fact it's really cathartic for me not to know what day of the week it is and not to be bothered by that! Every morning we had a breakfast of fresh local fruit, yoghurt and muesli and then the day stretched ahead until ... read more

Since I last travelled to SE Asia my world has changed a bit. Covid came along , fast on my heels as I got back to the UK in March 2020. My little gallery, blue-ginger, changed shape, went on line and slimmed down and I had time to take stock of life. Time to close up shop and move house. Thirty five years and happy memories at Home End Farm were hard to leave behind, but the move to a little house in Hay-on-Wye heralded a recognition that sometimes life just changes direction. So my first real travel opportunity came up, and feeling a bit nervous of the whole process I was delighted to be catapulted into booking a return flight to Bangkok when Lisa (Australia) suggested meeting up with Susan (Kazaksthan) and spending Christmas on ... read more

Couldn't face a cold water shower this morning, so was up and dressed by 8.00, went and had a spot of breakfast and sat on the end of the pier waiting for the 9.00 boat to Ko Mak. Before the old wooden boat came along, a rather sexy looking speed boat sidled up to the pier to drop off some passengers - couldn't resist having a go, so on i climbed and for only 100 baht more i was off to Ko Mak! Was a bumpy and rather fun ride across the ocean and got me there a little wind swept but in 20 minutes. So headed to the first resort i came across, which again very similar to Ko Wai had wooden beach huts although slightly more upmarket with bathrooms ( still only cold water ... read more

We got up early and headed to the south peir for Koh Larn, actually made it today! We had a good fry up in Pattaya then caught th boat over to the island. The boat ride was groovy and I enjoyed it but the seat was a tad hard for our gentle bums! Weather was a bit rough on the island so we just had a little look around and had some coffe the headed back to the mainland. After a little shop in Pattaya we got the tuk tuk taxi back to Ban Amphur and got a take away and chilled on our balcony! ... read more

Til ... read more

We are dropped off at Bangkok airport by the free hotel shuttle bus in plenty of time to check in for our flight. We drop off a bag then saunter through the security search and bag scan to our departure lounge. It is not long before we board a toy plane and settle in for the one hour flight to Trat. We are greeted by three Thai women who bow, hands in pray position as we get off the plane and are driven in a brightly coloured shuttle bus passed topery elephants to the hut that is the airport building. We queue up in the official airport taxi rank. Now in every guidebook I have read I have been advised to get taxis only from the official airport tax rank and every time that I have ... read more

Day 1 (Sunday) - I was exhausted and slept most of the way to Koh Mak sitting next to Rich. I woke up just for eating and at the occasional stop along the way. 5 and a half hours later we were at Laem Ngop, our first destination. Once there we exited the bus at the place to buy tickets to the boat that would take us to the island of Koh Mak. While there we also bought return tickets for our return boat two mornings earlier. Each boat ride was to be an hour long. Though the return bus we wanted was an 11am, we booked the 10am boat back, leaving us 0 minutes to get from the pier to the bus. The booking lady told us that she would hold the bus for us ... read more

... read more

Oen blev for ... read more
