Grand Palace
Random pictures to add as filler. The rain today, and schedule didn’t have anything new to add. This picture was from across the parapet grounds of the Grand Palace from Sundays bike tour. It’s amazing how the time is rapidly passing. Just about 3.5 days and 7 training sessions left this week. Skipped breakfast because I was so sore. Not sure if it was the weighted jumprope or the more aggressive sparring from yesterday, but my legs feel like I have cement shoes on. Today, the sun is fully blazing and the run is going to be especially difficult, I’m afraid. The gym is back to being quiet. I think the one early guy has come and gone already because Fahlaep is already sweating. Ran 10 laps, and the endorphins didn’t kick in until lap 3. It was a tough one. Jumprope was 15 minutes with my sissy leather rope. I’ll borrow Rune’s crossrope in the afternoon. I was still too sore to deal with that. Today must be a special ”10” day. Seems like everything I did was in groups of 10 in the 4 pad rounds. Left and right kicks, fast and with power, jabs, crosses, knees, elbows. Everything except machine gun punching, that still ran the last 30 seconds of the round. I did manage to move Fahlaep back 2 steps during that, so I’m satisfied with that small accomplishment. I
Chinatown dinner
Did I mention that while we were eating a huge rat raced across the sidewalk? I thought it was a cat at first until I saw it come back. The guide said not to worry, it’s only looking for scraps on the ground was very aware of keeping my hands up today, and noticed right away when I wasn’t using my hips in the kicks. Todays update likely to be short because I have a Zoom meeting this evening and some things to review before that. I’ll get the video camera out for the afternoon to document what happened, forgot to take it this morning, so have to rely on my exhausted memory. It’s a good workout, spending 2 to 2.5 hours at the gym in each session because I get there a bit early and hit the running right away. It does make it a bit of a challenge to get back to the hotel for lunch and short recovery though.
Today I wanted to get some new boxing shorts and Rune said there is a wholesaler in On Nut, which is only 2 BTS stops from the gym. I planned to add that into the afternoon agenda. But first the nice clear sunny weather disappeared and clouds filled the sky as I left early for shopping. By the time the train dropped me at On Nut, it was a deluge. Streets here flood just like Savannah, so within minutes there
Limoncello Restaurant
One of the few familiar restaurants from past trips. Not to sure how long it will remain if the crowds stay like this. There was a family with a little boy who walked around and gave tips to all the servers, bartenders and cooks. Made his and everyone’s day. were puddles up and over my shoes. The good thing is once your that wet, it really doesn’t matter any more. Found the store by accident because I had thought I’d gone too far and was ready to turn around. Small store in a bunch of closed warehouses, but they were well stocked with about everything you’d need. The online website is probably worth a look sometime. Plenty of shirts, shorts, pads, and gloves. Glad I found it so getting drenched was worth the walk. Ran into Rune from the gym walking there as I was leaving too. The rain tapered off, but was still enough to cancel running. That meant 30 minutes or so of jumprope. That was hard today for some reason. Two other guys who were here last week showed back up today. One was vacationing on the beach in Pattya and the other was tied up working remotely the last few days. It’s always good when there are more people in the gym. With the rope put away, I did a couple light rounds on the bag, then the pad rounds started. Two rounds of pads, and the first started a bit slowly on my end
Ambassador Hotel base camp
It actually looks worse than the picture shows. You can’t see the closet or bathroom where the discarded clothes are hidden. Not a bad room for the amount of time I’ve spent in it. but ramped up quickly. The third round was boxing only round, and at that point the shoulders were really feeling the hundreds of punches. After that was complete, I was told to spar with the guy from Singapore. Fahlaep told me to work on the kick catches and sweeps with him. I did a couple but felt bad dropping him, so I would catch and then just give him a tap on the leg to let him know. Fahlaep was working with him mostly to get him more comfortable with sparring. I enjoyed working with him. It also helped me see openings and get used to thinking about how to attack and work combinations. Tomorrow, I will try and spar with one of the other guys for a round or so. Both of them are a bit more advanced, so it will be a good challenge.
