Well, my first successful train ride took place this weekend and couldn't have been more happier! I was a little nervous though on Friday after school, my one teacher who was supposed to give me a ride was having a little dispute with another one of our co-teachers. They are both really friendly, the one who is closer to my age is a new teacher, so we together are working on this co-teaching experience, the other one who is a little older has an issue with helping us out..never wanting to do extra work we need to do for the English department. I was told to be cautious of her, she can be a little nasty..GREAT! Enough about school..... I arrived in Tao-young at about 930pm on Friday and Holly was right there to greet ... read more

I actually wrote this in Taiwan.... cos I got internet access that day. Well, the night before, I was chatting with my group leader, Nicole until late at night.... I'm guessing it was about nearly 4am and then I woke up at 7.30am to go to Yie Liu. We suppose to meet at 8.10am. So I actually kinda tired and was falling asleep. We first set off to Kee Lung and we went to a place (dunno what is it called - cannot find it) where we took some pictures with Kuan Imm Mah and also Mee Le Fo (Happy Buddha). That place can see the Kee Lung Port. So we spent about 30 mins there to take come pictures. Nice place though. Next we set off to Yie Liu. Yie Liu is actually located at ... read more

So...I'll make this short and sweet, just like myself! I don't have the time, effort, will-power, or energy to continually update this thing. However, with that said I am attaching a nice little email I wrote to my parents in leiu of my inability to actually speak to them on my father's brithday. No pictures...again I'm sorry and I really don't have anything super new to report. As usual, I hope this finds each and every one of you enjoying your lives and constantly trying to make it a little bit better everyday! So, I'm sorry we haven't talked to each other in a while, especially as Dad's birthday has come and gone. Did you do something fun? I called you guys each night, but you were probably out on the town or something along those ... read more

Day 3 was the major day for us as we'll attend the MTV Feng Shen Bang Wan Ren Yian Chang Hui (MTV Concert). We set off after we finished our breakfast to Mao's Princess House down town. On the way there, I saw something spectacular....... hahaha! We saw at least thousand of youngsters already queuing up to get into the stadium where the concert will be held. Gosh... some of them sit on the pedestrian walkpath, some sleep on a cardboard, some play cards, some just chatting, some feeling board, some sms-ing each other and blah blah blah.... kids, haven't you got something more important to do? On our way to Mao's Princess House, Andy told us an anecdote. He spoke about how deer's fetus can help to cure asthma and testimony of Song Ai Ling, ... read more

Second day was the first day of September in 2006. Nice and sunny day! Got my morning call and snoozed off for about 20 mins (luckily I managed to wake up! woo hoo!) and went down to have my breakfast. Actually, the food wasn't that great but we still gonna have it.... cos we have no choice..... blek! The first destination was to C.K.S Memorial Hall. Ok, this dude was like the Big Daddy of Taiwan. Dunno what great job he did for Taiwan (google urself) and the country get a Memorial Hall built for him. Actually, in the memorial hall, we get to see many things, especially pictures explaining the brief history of him with even 'briefer' introduction from Andy. He was so good at telling stories so I really enjoyed the history bit. I ... read more

and I am now heading off to see my friends---god help me as i venture on the train by myself-most know I had a hard enough time in Germany with someone with me, now by myself--yikes!! Ok well I just finished my last class of the day and it went ok. I say ok because I am not for sure if my students really understand the words that are coming out of my mouth, but I can see that they react well to gestural movements and love to do memory and repetition games--total plus! The kids enjoyed the pig noises I made as i explained to them that Iowa, the state I am from, has a lot of pigs---they even put their finger on their nose and scrunched it up flat like a pig---we had some ... read more

For example like all sorts of first aid, sleeping bag (didn't actually need it - Thanks Jason!) and many many underwear!!! shhhhh......... Thanks to mummy and papa who willing to sacrifice their busy time table to send me to airport!! heheh! Waved goodbye to them n went onto see my group leader, Nicole. I shouldn't actually be any nervous or something because i know there will be a leader to do all the things for me but the thing is, i dunno who is Nicole!!!!!! So i had to ask someone there. The first person I asked was Wan Ji (I later knew her name) and her mama said she is not there yet. So I waited for a bit ... read more

When I first arrived to Taiwan over two weeks ago I kept asking myself why I just didn't stay home and teach in a small town in Iowa. I would have been in my own comfort zone, culture zone, and with my own close group of friends. The culture is so much different here in Taiwan than the U.S. and Germany for that matter. I never had this big of culture shock when I lived in Germany maybe because I lived and taught on an U.S. army base. The first few days passed and I began to hang out with a group of people, some from Canada, England, and the States all so funny and special in their own ways. We had some good times, at the Aboriginies festival and Son's and William's, even the local ... read more

Today was the first day of school. Oh how I am going to love Wednesdays, only 3 classes then we are done and can leave! This school system rocks. While many of the kids go straight to cram school for another 7 hours of school, teachers get to go home and sleep and do whatever. To start the day I had to introduce myself to the entire school body, I thought I would puke from being in front of 2000 students and teachers. After I said "Hello" the pricipal spoke about me and who the heck knows what she said but for the rest of the day I was surrounded with students. I felt like a movie star! They all new my name and were waving. One of English teachers gave her students homework to talk ... read more

So on Sunday I finally got out of this boring town and head to Taichung City. After an hour long scary bus ride, I am suprised I am still alive, people drive SOOO crazy here. I might even be suffering from whiplash! Well I had a note I had to give to the bus driver so I could get dropped off at the right place. That's right folks, I, a 23 year old independent woman had to have a note. Well anyways I got off the bus where he told me to and I freaked out. I had no idea where I was and I have no phone. So like any typical Taiwanese street there was a 7-11 right across from me. So I carefully crossed the street and made a call to my coteacher to ... read more
