After a very early start we set off for a bumpy return to Colombo - both boys were sick en route so they will take tablets henceforth. We were delighted to find a clean and welcoming hotel in Mount Lavinia. We were all shattered but with only 15 minutes until the wedding (of an old school friend from Stourbridge) just had quick showers and ignored the lure of our beds. We got a 3 wheeler to the truly spectacular Mount Lavinia Hotel only to discover there was no wedding there. Panic was staved off when they were kind enough to let us use the internet there and we retrieved the online invitation and headed off to Mount Lavinia HOUSE. Skoraj en teden potovanja je za nama, midva pa se oglasava prvic. Tukaj je internet bolj izjema kot pravilo, zato ga je zelo tezko sploh najti. Trenutno sva v Kandyu, bivsi prestolnici Sri Lanke, priblizno v centru otoka. Raziskujeva hrupno in prepolno mesto, mirno in zeleno okolico izven mesta, zgodovino Sri Lanskega caja, tradicionalne plese,... Skratka, ni nama dolgsas. Pred Kandyem sva na severni polovici otoka obiskala Anuradhapuro in Dambullo, dva dokaj majhna mesteca, kjer sva si ogledovala rusevine in templje in se pocasi navajala na Sri Lanko. Za popotnika je Sri Lanka res zanimiva, polno je razlicnih stvari, ki jih lahko pocnes ali razlicnih krajev, ki jih lahko obisces, vsak z neko svojo zgodbo. Woke early and it is very hot again today. Saman IS nice, but nowhere near as perfect as our other hotels have been. E.g. the coir matting in the bed area, only 1 litre of water per room each day, a small tv. Moan, moan, moan. Actually, I don't like to watch tv on holiday but since Roy was ill, we got in the habit of switching it on and we got hooked on National Geographic channel. Roy likes reptiles, and there are some shockingly bad snake hunter programmes! Jungle Jake is just one of them... And there is an ad playing CONSTANTLY for a Spelling Bee contest that is being aired tonight. There is an Asian kid in it who spells Shylock (S.H.Y.L.O.C.K. if you were wondering) and we've both got our imitation of him ... read more

Despite having been warned by Roy NOT to wake up before 8am, I was awake at 5.45am. Mind you, so was he, so it isn’t all my fault today. We were out on the balcony having a coffee by 7.45am. I can’t believe the final leg of our Sri Lanka journey starts tomorrow. Breakfast at 8.30am. Eggs and beans for Roy, fruit and scrambled eggs for me. We’ve been getting bored at the beach - I never thought I’d say that - and so with Roy feeling a lot better now, we’ve decided to go out adventuring again today. We sat in the shade all morning. Arrived Hikkaduwa Saturday Morning, Now Wednesday morning got up at 5.30am to go and play Volley ball with some local school kids. We got thrashed by a team of 6 girls all between the ages of 10 and 12. Very embarassing. Spending the afternoon painting a school about 30kms away from Seenigama, where we are now staying. Got a party tonight, one of the Sri Lankan staff is celebrating his 24th Birthday and he has invited all of the volunteers along. I am really looking forward to it as the other 18yr old volunteers are turning out to be really good guys and so it should be a real laugh.
