Singapore is the slickest, most modern South East Asian country we have been to so far and yet presented the most problems at the border crossing. Victoria's passport would not scan on one of the immigration officials computers. She was led off to a room for about 15 minutes where all information had to be input manually. This delay put us back half an hour and the bus we had booked to take us from Melaka all the way through to Singapore did not hang around for us, leaving us stranded at the border. We spoke to another driver on his way through and I think he felt sorry for us as he let us jump aboard for free. Immaculate roads and manicured central reserves were the highlights of the drive in, which dropped us at ... read more

Singapore is like Greenway Mall Parramatta at lunchtime. A whole bunch of Asian owned shops with the rest white collared workers. Only difference here is that they are called expats. And that is Singapore really if you stick to the city centre. Move just outside that and you’ll soon realise that Singapore isn’t just about high-rise buildings, fancy cars, and designer clothes. There is another side to it. I arrived late (1030pm) and took a hotel drop off service to get to my hostel. I stayed 15 minute outside the CBD - In Greylang. Its one of the last areas of old school Singapore. We stop near numerous karaoke bars. The Drivers voice was slightly drained out by the bad singing in the background. He hands me my bag and says, “It’s the green door” “Where?” ... read more

Hello everyone, After the relaxing beach time and running from ladyboys in Ko Samui, Rich and I arrived in Singapore slightly earlier than planned. This was mainly due to us being a couple of pansies that coundle handle a 24 bus journey to Kuala Lumpur (turns out its much like Singapore and the Petronas towers aren't as tall as buildings we saw in Shanghai anyway). Checking into our hostel was a nightmare, as we had changed plans we had booked an extra couple of nights in Singapore and had received confirmation. However when we tried to check in, we were met with a blank expression. Turns out someone forgot to pass on the message. We were then told we could stay at the hostels sister building in Geylang, just a short metro ride away. We then ... read more

I arrived in Singapore on the 3rd of June at 3 pm and my flight left at 1pm the next day. This did not really leave much time to do anything but i decided i would leave the airport and treat my self with a nice hotel instead of a hostel. I Spend $70 on the room and i am hear to say it was a SH@# Hole. I must have killed 400 bugs and the room was just really dirty. On top of all that i didn't find out until after booking the room that the hotel was in the red light district. Surrounding my hotel where like 400 brothels. as soon as i walked out of the rooms i was yelled at by men to try and get me into the brothels. i ignored ... read more

17th - 19th March 2008 Well we went back to KL station and got on our train to Singapore the journey was about 5 hours and seemed to go relatively quick, we got ourselves tickets for the 1st class seating cant remember the cost but wasnt much. Once we reached the border of Malaysia and Singapore we waited on the train and immigration staff boarded and squiggles in your passport I assume this was like our Malaysia Exit stamp. Once the train then headed over the causeway into Singapore island we had to get off the train with all our luggage and queue up at Passport control for our Singapore entry stamp this seemed to take ages for some reason. They wait till everyone is through before re opening the doors for you to re board ... read more

Hmm... remember two months ago, when I last blogged and said I wouldn't leave it as long the next time? Well now that I've reminded you can you please forget because I have run out of excuses! So: Singapore. Singapore was enjoyable. We arrived after a fairly long flight at 7am and were instantly faced with the culture shock that South East Asia had in store for us. We stood outside trying to enjoy an eagerly anticipated cigarette while being hounded constantly for taxi custom. We did a small amount of bartering (more as a formality than anything else. It was so cheap!) and got into a taxi with a very friendly man who spoke fantastic English. He gave us plenty of tips on what to pay for things and explained to us that our hostel ... read more

How many times have you ever arrived at the airport to a sign that reads "Your Name". Well not exactly "your name" but something more like, in my case, Mr. Filly. For me, my arrival in Singapore was the first. This is what you get when you have great friends like Chris Streeter. For those unfamiliar with this world traveling computer programmer, he was my roommate at UC Berkeley for 2 years, and my close friend ever since. What was he doing in Singapore, waiting for me with a sign at the airport. No he didn't fly all the way accross the Pacific just to welcome me to this foreign land. In fact he was there on business, the kind of business that puts you up in a nice fancy hotel and pays for things like ... read more

We're back in Singapore now, it's hot but doesn't appear to be as hot as it was last time, probably just because it has been mostly overcast. When it's sunny it's as hot as it was before! We've done a lot more since we got back, the hostel is nicer, our room was clean when we arrived, no-one was going to walk in so it was definitely off to a better start! We planned to do the more touristy things this time around in Singapore and realised that we didn't actually have a lot of time to do everything. The day after we arrived we went to Sentosa island. We got the monorail across, went on the luge (where you race down a hill in a little thing with handlebars and wheels), sadly for me, Alex ... read more

We arrived last night and it's boiling and humid! We kicked two people out of a 4 bunk bed room because we paid for a private room and Eric messed up and didn't think about that when he put the two people in there! Alex had to stay awake for a while last night and it's lucky that he did because an indian guy walked in about midnight to find his stuff not in there and me sleeping on the bed that he had been using! I don't think he was too impressed but alex just told him that his stuff had been moved and he had to go see Eric! Anyway it's coming up to 9am, we're going to shower and then head into town for some breakfast.... read more
