Well its been a good month since my last post, and about 3 countries, so lets just skip India all together and get to Nepal. There is a famous Simpsons episode where Homer and Marge go to a marriage councelling camp and Homer goes fishing at Catfish lake searching for "General Sherman" which is obviously based on Hemmingway's "The Old Man and the Sea". My anology might be a little off, but Everest has always been General Sherman to me. A mythical beast dominating peoples imaginations and the entire region alike. Everybody believes in it but few ever get a chance for conquest. Catching (Climbing) the General may well be beyond my ability, or at least my means, but if nothing else Ill be able to get nice and close to him for a while. So, ... read more

For most of us our wedding is the more special event of our life! But for some like my brother-in-law, he wanted to make it a dream wedding- a never before wedding - a wedding where he took his entire close family to the Himalayas and tied the knot in the mountain flight at the closest point to The Mount Everest! My second one was just 2.5 months inside my stomach, and I was initially in 2 minds if I should take the risk.. but it was Kiran's wedding!! and what can go wrong when you are so close to The Himalayas- the most sacred place on earth!! The entire family landed a day ahead and Jaggu, Vedh and I the next day. We could of course not drive too much with my state and hence ... read more

**Lyrics from song sung by Malvin Gaye Our trek in Nepal to Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes has been the BEST adventure so far in terms of culture and scenery to die for, so unspoilt and beautiful…read on our adventure by each Locations / Attitude (m) Kathmandu, Nepal (1360m) We arrived in Kathmandu and were quickly reminded of similar destinations like Siam Reap in Cambodia and Bali with the masses of people, traffic and the associated seemingly harmonious chaos. I personally love this as there is so much to take in as a side walk observer. We met our Peregrine Group Leader, Kabin and our other 12 fellow trekkers from Australia and New Zealand (14 in total with Dave & I). Right up front the leader explained that this trip was going to be ... read more

i now find myself looking at my un-updated travel blog with a certain disappointment at myself, however, i still find it difficult to make the time to sit down and write it.. its often the case that i find myself unwilling to get my camera to take photos of an occasion or sit and write a journal.. its strange, its seems that subconsciously i am too busy enjoying the moment that i perhaps do not want to alter it by doing things that are intended to preserve it.. most of the text below was written nearly 4 months ago with the intention of being blogged straight away.. this didnt happen.. there are 47 photos added with this blog, be sure to click the photos button if they arent all displayed.. the everest region trek was one ... read more

After a short weekend break in Sydney we left Australia and started our long journey home. We arrived in Kathmandu on the 2nd November after a nights stop over in Singapore. Once off the plane, we had to get our Visas which took about about an hour. After waiting in the longest queue and trying to make sense of the organised chaos that was going on around us we finally had our visas and we made it out of the airport and into Kathmandu. There were people everywhere, most offering to carry our bags and asking us if we needed a taxi or a hotel. Luckily we had organised somewhere to stay in advance, and had a airport pick-up organised. Thanks to a very good recommendation by American friends of ours (Thanks Toni and Breezy!) we ... read more

We have to warn you - we tried really hard to keep this entry from getting too long and boring you - but we loved this part of our trip so much it's been a tall order ;-) Kathmandu We arrived in to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, and the backpacker enclave of Thamel, with a few days to spare before our departure North into the Himalayas for our much anticipated trekking. This provided a little time to see some of the main sights of the city, along with time to accumulate the pieces of gear we would need for our foray into high altitudes and cold temperatures. Already, being at 1,800m, the temperature was much cooler than in India, which made a pleasant change from the high daytime temperatures of Rajasthan. Kathmandu old town, where ... read more
