freitag, 05.09.08 am letzten samstag haben wir schliesslich auch die grasslands hinter uns gelassen und sind nach einem kurzen shopping-stop in moron zum lake khovsgol weitergefahren. während die ortschaften im süden viel weniger 'gebaut' sind und hauptsächlich aus gers bestehen, sind hier im norden schon viele holzhäuser in russischem still zu finden. der 'vorgarten' wird normalerweise durch einen bretterverschlag von der strasse abgetrennt, so dass sich lange anonyme gassen bilden - das erleichtert nicht gerade die orientierung... so kurven wir doch einigermassen orientierungslos durch die strassen von moron, bis wir die frischwasserstelle gefunden haben. der lake khovsgol ist die 'kleine' schwester vom lake baikal, nur wenige kilometer südlich der russischen grenze. während der lake baikal je nach quelle 20 bis 25% des weltweit vorhandenen süsswassers vorhält, sind es bei... read more

From bush camp at a family farm near Lake Zuun took us actually 3 hours or so to figure out how to cross the river safely, soon as we are through a big rock got lodged between the wheels again and have to pry it out, after that another long drive. So far we've been travelling in Mongolia on dirt roads, jeep tracks that would suddenly dissapear sometimes so the GPS gives us a lot of help, very rough travel and depending on road conditions and weather we could be driving all day and yet only gone 50 km.
