Apart from the mosquitos taking rather a liking to me and nibbling me to pieces, we have just spent a lovely 3 days exploring KL and all it has to offer. It won't surprise you to hear that food and drink have featured highly on the agenda.

Sunday - following an extremely lazy day, feeling like lounge lizards, we started with evening cocktails on the Roof terrace before heading out for a truly delicious meal at Nerovivo, serving Italian cuisine. Unusual in Asia and very unlike us, but the standard of food and service were exceptional.

Yesterday morning - first stop, Chow Kit market, named after the district Chow Kit and after the miner and municipal councillor, Loke Chow Kit. This colourful market is the largest wet market in KL, with narrow walkways leading to stalls selling fruit, vegetables, spices, fish, meat and handicrafts. A kaleidoscope of colours and aromas make locals and tourists alike keen to explore further. In a nearby stall we sat down to KOPI, Pao buns with chicken and Apam Balik (pancake with sweetcorn and peanuts) - not the best example. After meandering in the 36 degree heat we decided to head to the food pavilion, Pavilion shopping mall, to pick up a chicken flossy bun and some cooling beers in the shade, watching the world go by. If ever you visit South East Asia these buns are a must.

In the evening we headed out to Bukit Bintang to a fine Vietnamese restaurant called Sao Nam, Star of Vietnam. Etched on a chalk board was this from Benjamin Franklin - "In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom and in water there is bacteria". I guess that means I need to continue with the wine and I will be wise into old age. This was our second visit and I must say the food was as refreshingly tasty as it was the first time. We opted for the Vietnamese crispy pancakes with mushroom, prawn and chicken, salmon with dill accompanied by an outstanding dipping sauce and vietnamese chicken curry. Each taste just left you wanting more. A few cheeky wines after dinner, a swim in the warm pool and some chocolate cake ended the night perfectly.

This morning we visited Imbi Market - a traditional local wet market, with an array of meats and vegetables on sale. Chickens being chopped and fish being scaled and garotted like never before.

Here we sat in the hustle and bustle of the Chinese hawker stalls, treating ourselves to a crispy Popiah (pancake with vegetables, stewed turnip, peanuts, crispy bits and some hot and spicy hoi sin sauce), coffee and toast with Kaya. We watched on as one Chinese man shouted some unintelligible words across to another, taking in the atmosphere of everyone enjoying their wares.

Tonight we are back on track with some Malaysian delights.
