Day 20 Today is our last full day on Langkawi and tomorrow we are off to Kuala Lumpur for our last week of this great experience. We’ve learnt a bit more about each other on this trip and it’s all been so very worthwhile.
Today we did what is called here Island Hopping.
We rented a boat for half a day for the princely sum of RM240 (about $90) and headed off in the boat on the open sea. We were picked up from our hotel and transported to the beach for a wonderful half day of sun and fun.
Our first stop was Pulau Dayang Bunting which is home to the lake of the same name. It means the Lake of the Pregnant Maiden and legend has it that childless couple tried for 19 years but were unable to conceive drank water from the lake. Well, you can guess what happened, don’t drink the water if you don’t want kids. We warned you.
The climb to the lake from the landing point is reasonably steep but with steps not a bad trek. Once you reach the peak of the trail it descends quite swiftly to the
lake. Once there, our admission included a ride on a pedal boat so we decided to pedal to the far bank. Hmmm - still had that climb outta here to go. If you don’t feel that energetic you can always hire one with a solar power panel mounted on top to just cruise around. Actually was not too bad at all.
Memo - use the toilet here.
After we left the island, we then went for about a 15 minute cruise to the stop. This was eagle feeding where the eagles come in and feed on the bait fish in a small bay on one of the many islands in the area. We stayed around here for about 15 minutes and then we headed off to our last stop.
This was an island called Pulau Beras Basah. Not exactly deserted as I think all the island hopping boats call on this island. There are a couple of hawkers here selling soft drinks, food and beer and not much else apart from what appears to be an abandoned resort (future investment potential). Here we went swimming in the sea and although murky was extremely pleasant and refreshing. We
also spent about an hour on this island and then headed back to sure.
We had a great half day on the water and the kids had a fine time on the boat, especially once we got up on the plane and came crashing down on the waves after skipping over the waves. Once back, we headed back to the hotel where Peter & Gina offered to babysit and feed and water the girls while the other four headed into Kuah to do some last minute duty free shopping.
Our last full day in paradise ended when we went to Cactus for our final dinner on the island. Sorry to go, but chit happens and we have to move on tomorrow to KL. As usual Mr Ba and his staff have provided with great food and company over the last week and we look forward to seeing them next time we are on Langkawi. I also have to give special thinks to Mr Eddy, the perfect chef, for the use of his mobile internet while we have been in Cactus.
And so goodnight Cactus, see you next year we hope.
