Whew, what a day. My $45 capsule hotel has been the most luxurious experience I have ever had. But I'm getting ahead of myself, so let's start from the beginning of the day I woke up at 6 in the morning, and was unable to get back to sleep; my body still thinks it:s 7PM (NY time). Luckily, it turns out that Thierry is also awake, so we decide to get an early breakfast (McDonalds... thank goodness for globalization). Afterwards, we trek through Asakusa, seeing some ridiculous architecture and temples. I threw in a ¥100 coin (~$1) and prayed for a safe trip. I then checked out, and we proceeded to Shinjuku, which is supposed to have an awesome nightlife. We didn't see anything too great, but just walked around and took in the sights. We ... read more

Well, today we are leaving Tokyo for the first time and going to Yokohama to stay one night. It's 25km south of central Tokyo, but it takes close to 2 hours or so to get there. I'm going to upload pictures from yesterday (Tokyo Imperial Palace, Tokyo Stock Exchange, and Tokyo Tower) to my computer while on the bullet train to Yokohama and they should be up on the blog later today along with a more detailed post. Well we got into our new place yesterday. It's much better than the first, and it's in a much better part of town! Asakusa was a more traditional residential neighborhood -- and nothing opened for business... ever.... ?? It didn't make any sense to either of us. So, we're now staying in Shinjuku, which is an awesome part of town! We had wifi in our room for a couple hours, but after we went out yesterday and came back, it didn't work anymore. It hasn't worked since, so I'm on the computer provided by the hotel posting this. Hopefully we'll be able to find wifi somewhere in public to post pictures later today. We took it easy for the most part yesterday, mainly exploring the area. We were mainly exploring on our way to the park, ... read more

Hello dear readers. It has been a couple of days since my last post. I've had limited down time in a hotel in recent days so haven't had a chance to update you on recent activities. Most of the last 2 days (Sunday & Monday) has been taken up with traveling to destinations. On Sunday I left my Hiroshima hotel around 0945 to head to the station to catch the Shinkansen back to Tokyo. The trip had to be done in 2 parts as the Hikari Shinkansen does not operate a direct service from Hiroshima to Tokyo. I had to jump off at Shin-Oska (i've learned that the word Shin is in reference to "new" or the new part of the city so Shin-Osaka refers to the newer part of Osaka) which is about 1 hour ... read more

We are staying in a capsule hotel with free internet!! We have to pay for the showers though. We went to see the sumo today - loads of fun :) We paid for the proper cheapo tickets. From 8am - 2.30pm it's the unranked trainee wrestlers, not many people bother going to see them so it meant we could sit right at the front in the $150 seats! It was pretty amazing, but a bit scary in case they fall on you. We watched loads of mad fights, they only last a couple of minutes though, some are over in seconds. And some of the wrestlers are well fat! Massive tits. Then in the afternoon, we had to go and sit on our cheap seats because the stadium got full and we watched the champions. They ... read more

Last night we went to Kokubunji (I think) area and had dinner at Acadia. While the food was good, the neighbor was very different, it was like a mix of video game arcades, porn shops with curtained entrances, and tons of people on the streets trying to sell you stuff.....Oh, and the whole place looked like Times Square on crack., soooo many lights everywhere! This morning we had breakfast at the hotel since most cafes don't even open until 10am. The travel guide wasn't joking when they said it was more expensive. The food was a wonderful blend of western and Japanese food. Next we headed to Tshukiji fish market, what a whirlwind. There we people pulling carts and guys driving forklifts everywhere busy packing up all the fish and hauling it away. Also, there were ... read more

I just wanted to let everyone know that we arrived safely and tiredly last night at the Narita airport. We are staying at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku, Tokyo through Friday. Then we will fly out of the Haneda airport on Friday night to go to Northern Japan to Saporro to visit the horse farm on Saturday. Then its back to Haneda airport on Monday morning then to the Narita airport that evening to fly to Bangkok, Thailand. We will keep you posted whenever we have internet access. I love it here in Tokyo, everything is so clean, so technologically advanced and all the people are very friendly and very helpful, even those who do not speak English well. I am afraid I will want to stay longer than a week here...smiles. Love you ... read more

Hello from Tokyo. Arrival was interesting... Quarantine came on board in hazmat suits, zapped us with infrared cameras and gave us all masks and kept us waiting almost an hour. Poor people near row 18 (3 up and back) had to stay behind cuz some kid in row 18 was sick! Got out as soon as they gave us the clear only to be stopped again (media was there too!). Anyway...made it into Tokyo finally. Have been having a great time. Lots of eating, lots of shopping (the usual for me I guess?!). Wandered between Shinjuku, Harajuku & Shibuya first day. Yesterday went to see the Chiba Marines. Baseball team 2 hours away from Shinjuku. Was loads of fun. Gotta go...will try to add more later. Kampai!... read more

Woke up late again - i swear it's the room!...It is well dark in there with the door shut ;-) After getting dressed I head into Shinjuku to have a look around. I need to buy my train ticket for Kawaguchiko - where i will be staying from Monday to Thursday. Once I have done my errands I wander about and take in the madness. Shinjuku is heaving with people. The place is buzzing & the traffic is heavy. I am in the west part of Shinjuku which is known as the business centre. It is full of skyscrapers, pachinko palours, arcades, shops, bars, restaurants, tourists & salarymen. I pop into an amusement arcade & have a bash on one of the sega games. It's crap but i'm feeling the Japanese vibe of computer madness! - ... read more

After a long flight i arrive at Narita Airport @ 8.45am. I am exhausted, thanks to another night of crap sleep & jet-lagged to fuck. I get my bags and go through customs. I am really looking forward to getting back to my hotel for a shower, shit & kip. The guyatcustoms seems very suspicious but i suppose it is all part of the job. I am a Gaijen after all! I decide to get the coach into Tokyo as it seems the cheapest option, it is 1 hr 30 minutes to Shinjuku so i doze on the bus. I wake up right at the station and miss the drive in. In Shinjuku i am fucked. I am completely lost, bewildered, have no map, none of the taxi drivers speak English and it is baking hot. ... read more
