The one and a half hour speedboat ride from Jemeluk to the Gili Islands was quite a rough one. For the first half hour I felt a little sick with the big swell, but after that it settled down a little so I didn't feel that bad. After dropping passengers off at Gili Trawangan we bypassed Gili Meno because the waves were too big, and finally we arrived at Gili Air. The Gili Islands consist of these 3 very small islands off the northwest coast of Lombok. I walked past the touts and wandered inland where I quickly found an old bungalow for $10 a night including breakfast and free tea and coffee all day. That afternoon I had a little look around and spent a couple of hours at a beachside restaurant just taking it ... read more

After our extended, very relaxing stay on GT we decided to not be such lazy beach lay abouts and wanted to do something active. So we had this fantastic idea to climb Mount Rinjani. I wish someone had stopped us there and said, 'Hang on girls.... this is a 3,726 metre mountain you're talking about climbing!' but unfortunately we booked the 3D/2N tour without a second thought and we happily waved goodbye to our beloved bungalow on paradise island. We did not stay happy for long. The boat and bus transfer to the trek centre took a few hours. We were told that when we got there it would be no problem to rent shoes, rucksacks and jackets. Well, of course we were told that because the guy on GT who we booked our ticket with ... read more

Firstly, apologies for the lack of blogging on this trip! It seems hard to find the time to get online and blog but I'll try to catch you all up on what we've been upto now. So from Ulu Watu we went to Nusa Lembongan. We got the seriously over-priced taxi from Thomas' Homestay to Sanur and stayed one night in Sanur. The beach there is supposed to be a real tourist resort but it didn't seem all that beautiful. Most of the holiday makers looked to be Balinese - maybe they like to go there and stay away from all the westerners in Kuta! Anyway, we booked our ticket for the boat to Nusa Lembongan for the following morning and then stayed in a nice place called the Watering Hole. The next morning we caught ... read more

(N) The crossing from Bali to the Gilis left us shaken & stirred. So when our pubescent captain announced the arrival at the first of the three Gili Islands, Gili Trawangan, I didn’t care that it wasn’t the island of our choice – I just wanted to get the hell off. In the dark, we were ferried to the mainland in the standard wooden nutshell and experienced a second near-capsize as a large wave crashed into our boat, drenching us and our backpacks to the bones. The boat guy – another teenager – giggled and I had to stop myself from strangling him when he declared “No take boat from Bali in full moon - waves very biiiiiiig!” When we made landfall, I fell to my knees and kissed the ground to the rhythm of the ... read more

So, Tiger Airways. I know this sounds like the start of a previous blog entry. Unfortunately, this is a new one with the same beginning. So, after Alex and Steve came to our rescue following the incident that will not be discussed, by putting us up for two weeks and spoiling us in Alex's case and mocking us, in Steve's, they topped it off by offering to drive us to the airport. Steve and I had shot a lot of nails into a lot of wood, and so it was decided that we would reach the airport via deck-almost-finished-cigars at Max Brenners. No chocolate pizzas this time but some hot chocolates and a cigar each for me and Steve, the master deckbuilders. We arrived at Melbourne airport in good time to catch our flight to Perth. ... read more

"Welcome to my paradise!  Where the sky's so blue and the sun so bright Welcome to my paradise! Where you can be free and the party is never ending!" Palmeras ... read more

Hi everyone, We are on the Gili Island's and I think it is my favourite place I have been so far on my trip. Its is absolutly amazing... So picking up from my last blog, we got the night train to Kuala Lumpa, Me and James didn't sleep that well, so was shagged when got to Kuala Lumpa. We got to the hostel at 7:30am and the nice people at the hostel let me sleep in the janitor room, where there was a bed as I was poorly. The hostel was really really nice, really clean and just a really cool place. Once I had some sleep I felt a little better again. We spent 2 nights and 2 full days in Kuala Lumpa. Im not going to write that much as I was ill with ... read more

Current mood: Feeling sore Well well well... Hows it going to all of you out there loving life right now? I hope well. For me... Indonesia is making me feel like i am on top of the world. In fact, i am. Where to start? i guess where i left off. So Yeah.. we were in the Gilli's snorkeling with 8 turtles at a time, Supping Bintang and chowing down Urap Urap whilst trying to hide from the doom stare coming across the ocean from Lombok. Rinjani was certainly a feat for out thoughts let alone our bodies when deciding to give up the beach life for a little trek time. and some trek it turned out to be. Leaving the Gilli's wasn't so hard for us. it was almost a welcomed break from the beach ... read more
