It's the 17th December and it couldn't feel any less like Christmas. We've been on Gili Air for the past few days but I'll tell you about that shortly. Before Air we had spent five days on Gili Trawangan. Gili T is the largest of the three islands situated 10km off the north coast of Lombok but is still only a few kilometres long. We moved after our first night to a new place that served a great breakfast and had a good bed with nice clean white sheets (a bit of a luxury out here it seems). The breakfast really was great and well worth crawling out of bed for. Delicious, ripe mango, pineapple, banana and water melon followed by a nice omelette and coffee. A great way to start our days there. Most of ... read more

The one and a half hour speedboat ride from Jemeluk to the Gili Islands was quite a rough one. For the first half hour I felt a little sick with the big swell, but after that it settled down a little so I didn't feel that bad. After dropping passengers off at Gili Trawangan we bypassed Gili Meno because the waves were too big, and finally we arrived at Gili Air. The Gili Islands consist of these 3 very small islands off the northwest coast of Lombok. I walked past the touts and wandered inland where I quickly found an old bungalow for $10 a night including breakfast and free tea and coffee all day. That afternoon I had a little look around and spent a couple of hours at a beachside restaurant just taking it ... read more

So, Tiger Airways. I know this sounds like the start of a previous blog entry. Unfortunately, this is a new one with the same beginning. So, after Alex and Steve came to our rescue following the incident that will not be discussed, by putting us up for two weeks and spoiling us in Alex's case and mocking us, in Steve's, they topped it off by offering to drive us to the airport. Steve and I had shot a lot of nails into a lot of wood, and so it was decided that we would reach the airport via deck-almost-finished-cigars at Max Brenners. No chocolate pizzas this time but some hot chocolates and a cigar each for me and Steve, the master deckbuilders. We arrived at Melbourne airport in good time to catch our flight to Perth. ... read more

Current Mood: Turtle Tastic Hey, so do i have a tail or two for you guys?! Leaving Lembongan was a sad day to say the least. Up early for our departure, we got to see little Beema before he left for school and have a bite to eat with Kenya and Weta before we had to say goodbye. Walking from that Home stay (Made Inn) was actually like leaving home. i felt honestly upset. they had been great to us. Thank you Both and we will see you again soon. Waving from the boat as we drift out to the open sea i hear a bang. I thought someone had fallen from the boat but casey ( as she was jumping out of the boat window to scramble to the top) shouts "THE BOAT IS ON ... read more

We had the entire boat to ourselves. Well, that's not exactly true. There was also the crew of twelve and the amorous Berlin couple who had cloistered themselves above deck but other than that we had the entire Perama 100-passenger schooner to ourselves. Remarkable. We were on our way back to Gili Air. Our personal Shangri-La which we had stumbled upon in the Fall of 2008. Our vacation dream come true. Our once in a lifetime experience coming around again. I was ecstatic. Standing on the ship's bridge waiting for my first glimpse of that idyllic atoll to the East I had my i-Pod cranked and my feet doing a happy jig. The sun was bright, the seas calm and the great pyramid that is Bali was steadily receding in our wake. After leaving Cambodia we ... read more

Lombok Island is right next to Bali Island. Everything is slow and mellow on this rural island. It’s much much less commercial and touristy and much much better to spend your leisure time than Bali is. We stayed at Qunci Pool Villas Hotel (http://www.quncivillas.com/index.html) which was really comfortable with the great atmosphere and hospitality. Saturday, February 12nd 2011.... so, we departed from Malang on saturday afternoon- we're almost late like always, then from Juanda airport we took flight which I already booked straight to Denpasar. We arrived around 7.30 pm on Denpasar and heading to the hotel on centre of Kuta area.. at least mon amour will have some ideas what's in Kuta.. we went around and bought sandals (hah!) and stranded in Burger King since we're way too hungry. And I noticed (as always), Kuta still crowded with too many foreigners ... read more
