Il ... read more

We bought our tickets in Padang Bai and said fairwell to Bali again as we set off towards Lombok. Other intention was to try to get to Flores - several islands further east - in order to visit Komodo National Park and see some Komodo Dragons in the wild, but the hassle of getting there was very off putting. We'd decided to go to the main bus station on Lombok to see how easy it would be to get tickets are far east as possible but if it was going to be too much grief, we'd skip the whole thing and perhaps climb another volcano. The five hour ferry journey passed pretty slowly and was uneventful except for seeing a lone dolphin swimming and jumping in the water about half way through. Of course, the views ... read more

Sunset Cottages, in a village called Ahuwair, does exactly what it says in Lonely Planet: " " After our journey over from Lewoleba this place is exactly what we needed. The journey left us with a bitter taste of Indonesian life (OK, admittedly we weren't in a great mood to start the day with!) We arrived at the ... read more

ahoy mateys... tomorrow is our last offical day in labuan bajo-a sleepy fishing village on the island of flores. it's a very simple village and a different world than what we experienced in ubud. this area, a gateway to komodo national park is a haven for divers and snorkellers... chris is in his element. he is totally infatuated with the ocean and there is nothing i can do about it! we have spent the last three days on a boat with komodo divers. we wake up around 5, have breakfast, and then head on down to the infamous wooden jetty with a depature at around 7:30 or 8 and then we are at sea all day that encompasses two dives and then we set sail for home around 4... when we first arrived in labuan bajo ... read more

03 December 2009 - 04 December 2009 TRANSPORT: Moni to Ende by bus--Rp50,000 (3 hours) HOTEL: Hotel Gardena Double, fan, cold water, western toilet--Rp90,000 inc breakfast. Yet again the only option in town, but it's a nice place with friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are nice and it's a nice escape from the dump that is Maumere. Yes, Maumere is a dump. To their credit they did get slapped with a huge 20m tsunami in 1992 and the town hasn't seemed to be able to recover. The capital of Flores just doesn't seem like it should be a capital. The streets are littered with garbage, most places appear to be shut down and there isn't a single restaurant that we could find! Anyway, from the beginning shall we? We woke up bright and early after ... read more

01 December 2009 - 03 December 2009 TRANSPORT: Ende to Eastern bus terminal by ojek--Rp10,000 Bus terminal to Moni by bus--Rp 30,000 (2 hours) Moni to Kelimutu by ojek--Rp35,000 (one-way) HOTEL: Bintang Bungalows Double, mandi, western toilet--Rp85,000 (inc. breakfast) In the centre of the village, this is a decent place to stay with a very welcoming owner. It's pretty noisy at night when their three dogs start harrassing people, and every now and then there seemed to be a mothers meeting of guys making a fair degree of noise at stupid o' clock! So our journey to Moni was not the most eventful. We left for the bus station in good time, wanting to arrive early to get a 'good seat.' We had an hour wait on the bus at the terminal where we were entertained ... read more

A sweet panorama of Maumere is sunset which situated at western area from the capital of Sikka regency. At the top of hill you can enjoy how quite a hill and how beautiful sun on the west hill in the evening. On Sundays there many people come to the beach for swimming and snorkeling there. That’s Tanjung. Opposite the beach, there is a hill with a cross stone which is built by a number of army personels who worked in Maumere 1990s. Often people go there at the evening for pray. To reach the top where Cross is, we have to go 543 stairs up with about 60s° of declivity. How tired I climb up there but I was happy could take some pictures around. Do you love it? ... read more
