So after a failed attempt and partial electrocution at the beginning of our Asian adventure I've finally found a (semi) trustworthy computer to do some updates on! Our first few days landing in Bali we spent just outside of the hectic tourist centre near Kuta Beach, in a slightly more quiet town called Seminyak. Chelsea and Angus found us within a day and we spent most of our time touring the ally ways, walking along the beach and watching sunset in a rooftop patio restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised by the cheap and delicious foods, and soon realized how important eating is to the indonesian culture. After the kerfuffle with Jetstar in Singapore, Trung and I were glad to finally touch down in Denpessar, Bali after 30 hours of waiting around. Mind you, waiting in a 4.5 star hotel isn't all that bad, but Bali was calling! Because of the 'greatness' of Jetstar, we didn't arrive at the airport until about 2am, which meant that we weren't pulling up to our hotel in Seminyak (near Kuta beach) until 3am. It was pouring rain and the hotel was down a back alley off a back alley. I met Wayan my last visit in Bali, yes, the same Wayan Elizabeth Gilbert wrote about in "Eat, Pray, Love". She asked me to do her a favor so I'm using this medium to ask for help. When she was able to purchase her home, someone loaned her money for her water system. It was a significant amount of money but she has lost the contact information for this person and wants to pay them back. If you have ever visited her clinic and seen the amount of paper work drifting around, thinking of her losing a piece of paper is not surprising. She thinks they were from Australia but is not sure. Same Same But Different Welcome to Bali! Well.... after much inner resistance I finally decided to give in and explore a little of Bali since so many Aussies rave about the place... I have lots of mixed feelings but for now this blog is about a little piece of Heaven in Bali, Ubud, recently made famous by the book and subsequent movie: Eat, Love, Pray... I arrived in Bali just before lunchtime and was surprise to see my driver waiting already.. We left the Gilis after a couple of days, since we only had a week together and wanted to see more of Bali. We got a bus to Ubud, still in South Bali, and made famous by the book/film Eat, Prey, Love (not the reason we went, I’d like to point out!). Ubud is beautiful, laid back, and full of amazing shops. I rarely go to places where I think, "Yes, I’d like to live here", but Ubud is definitely one of those places. I’m adding it to my list (currently consisting of New York and Barcelona). Stayed in the nicest accommodation again, and so cheap – just over 10 quid a night for a big bungalow, with, of course, an outdoor bathroom.
