Nous ... read more

Part of traveling's attraction is being exposed to the new and different. Here are some of the things we've witnessed here that we probably wouldn't see in Westerly, RI USA. 1. Families of four traveling by motorbike. The father drives, the mother sits behind him, the oldest child stands on the floor board and the infant is wedged between the mother and father. This is done in traffic so horrendous it can only be described as being in a video game. Drivers pay no attention to traffic lines, stop signs, and other drivers. There is no speed limit. Imagine driving in a large parking lot with no traffic lines and people weaving, slipping and sliding in and among the cars with four inch clearance and everyone is going 60 mph.. The favorite device is the car ... read more

Today we had our rescheduled meeting with our functions guy at the hotel, so we dragged ourselves out of bed a bit earlier to make sure we weren't late. We ate breakfast whilst watching the clock and got back in plenty of time. We did a tour of the hotel so we could decide on the venue for the ceremony. We decided on the beautiful paved and landscaped area between the pool and the fish pond, its hard to describe but the photos don't do it justice at all. It just so pretty and the sounds of the foundations and the wind really add to it, obviously that be captured in a picture. We then retired to the pool area for the day, swam and generally lazed about. Come late afternoon, we decided we'd head down ... read more

A successful surf trip needs waves of course. But unless you are traveling alone, the mates (notice the Australian influence here) you travel with become critically important. it has been said that it is not an adventure until something goes wrong and when shit does go wrong you want those around you to be cool, calm and thoughtful. You also want companions who are similar to you in many ways. They want to ride the same size waves you do, They must have a similar sense of exploration and adventure, and work within the same basic budget. On the other hand, if all of you were identical it would be pretty boring. So you want mates who while similar, do bring their own package of personality, sense of humor, and opinions. We are fortunate here at ... read more

We slept in today until about half eight and then headed over to breakfast. My hubby loves anything remotely connected to a buffet, so breakfast is always a big deal to him and to a lesser extent my daughter, I can take it or leave it, I rarely do a buffet justice or get my money's worth. I do love the omelets the guys at the egg station make, but after a big stuffed omelet, I'm only good for a piece of toast and a few cups of coffee. We had a meeting with our wedding planner (Bali Wedding Butler) booked for 10.00am, which unfortunately was cancelled at the last moment and rescheduled to the following day, so we headed back to our room and changed into bathers to have a swim. Just before lunch, we ... read more

Is there anything more difficult than traveling? I don’t think so. First there is the ‘getting ready to go’ stage. I always give myself about 10% of the time I need to get all this shit done. When I realize I don’t have enough time, I start to waste time by making lists of the stuff that needs to get done. Cancel the newspaper subscription, finish that project at work that has been sitting on my desk for two months, visit my family and my friends. Each item on the list is not difficult or time consuming but there are like 400 hundred of them. Next comes the ‘packing’ stage. Of course I figure I will pack ‘light’ so I hallucinate that I can pack in something like two hours. The absurdity of the hallucination hits ... read more

I'm sorry we haven't posted in a bit. The evil internet gremlins gobbled my last couple of posts just as I was trying to save or post them, and I haven't had much opportunity to retype them. This is just a quickie to let everyone know that we're still alive. We've spent about a week in Bali and leave in a few minutes to start sailing around some of the more remote islands near here. Our friend Sue (the one we visited in Chiang Mai) joined us for the first five days of Bali, which was awesome. We rented a car and toured around the smaller towns on the east and north coasts and snorkeled around some very cool wrecks. Our flight's boarding now so I've got to run. We're going to be offline for the ... read more
