Dave Im sat in Delhi airport at an internet cafe as we're about to fly out to Singapore after completing our two week India initiation. In the guide books India always seemed to appear in the 'Tough places to visit' section, or the 'Experienced travellers' list. I think if we hadn't done this as part of an orgainsed tour its quite likely we'd never got out of Delhi, or maybe already we'd be back in England vowing never to leave the comfort of our front room again (Though of course having sold our front room and the house surrounding it it's not an option). That isn't to say India hasnt been a fantastic start to the trip, it has been an amazing assault on all five senses. We've seen the beauty of the Taj Mahal, heard ... read more

Can't believe its our last day in Goa today (we leave for Mumbai tomorrow). I've had the best time here, its completely flown by! On Friday we did the boat cruise which was really good but we didn't see any dolphins unfortunately. We went to a beach called Monkey Beach and had a bbq on the beach and also went snorkelling. I don't think I was very good at it and had a bit of a panic attack when I realised I was swimming back to the wrong boat and thought for a minute that our boat had left me! Then in the evening we went to this amazing restaurant called Fiesta's - it's like a set on James Bond! It was more expensive than we thought so only had desert but have booked a table ... read more

22 January 2006 was the day when I stepped my foot in India and started my adventure in the Golden Triangle (Delhi - Agra - Jaipur). After traveling to Egypt and China as well as other countries, I always dreamed of visiting India, and on this day, my dream came true. From Hanoi, I flew to Bangkok on Air Asia then connected my flight to New Delhi on Air India. My flight BKK - New Delhi with Air India was delayed 24 hours, however the hotel that I booked in New Delhi still sent a car to the airport twice and waited until they could see me. That was the first caring gesture by the Indians. Next day, I rent a car (US$15 per day) and visited some places in Delhi. Walking down the streets in ... read more

It’s lovely being met at the airport. I am in India mainly for study, and the training centre has sent a driver to meet me at the airport. I’m taken straight to the centre where I pay them their fees. They also hand me some train tickets to Rajasthan. I have two weeks before I actually start studying and had asked them if they could book these for me. I dumped the things I’ll not need for the next 10 days and got a lift with the company driver to the Nizamuddin Railway Station. I was slightly alarmed when he didn’t know where it was, but with the aid of the rough city plan in my guidebook and asking everyone we saw, we managed to find the place in the end. I was also amazed when ... read more

I dedicated the morning to a sightseeing tour of Patna, which encompassed the Golghar (a large grain storehouse) and the Gandhi Maidan (a large field on which a gazillion games of cricket were underway). Unfortunately some sort of renovation work was taking place on the Golghar, as it was covered in scaffolding which blocked the stairs half way up. I had an English misunderstanding with a young child, who shouted what I thought was "Weight, weight!" as I was staring up the steps - there was a set of scales there with a sign announcing it was Rs 1 to have yourself weighed, but I declined and carried on climbing. In fact he was saying "Wait, wait!" because he knew I'd be unable to get up to the top. Since he had already tried to persuade ... read more

We spent on the beach, relaxing at our favourite massage shack and I spent most of it sleeping as for some reason we woke up at 8 this morning. We did however go Jet Skiing- it was amazing, I am definately doing it again it was soo fun- Queen of the waves! After the beach we came back and got ready for dinner at Fiesta, had a lovely meal came back and crashed out - seriously I didn't think that lying on the beach could be soo exhausting! All of the guide books tell you how disrespectful it is to take pictures of the localswithout asking their permission first- but none of them warn you that locals have the right to photograph you without your permission! ... read more

We got up late today and arranged our journey from Travendrum to Goa by train. Alleppey rezervation office at the railway station gives service even on Sundays but only cash is accepted. In hurry we caught the boat to Kottayam which would be our first backwater practice. The Boat Jetty is close to the hotels area and the boats departs in time. We paid 10 InR for one way each for more than 30 km. on the lake. It takes around 2.5 hrs. going and 3 hrs. back.we did not have enough time to make Kumarakom from Kottayam. Kumarakom , said to be worth seeing. We spent the night at the hotel eating and mailing on internet. ... read more
