With school holidays here, it’s stepping up finishing school extensions and also stocktake time. We’re preparing metal boxes for resources in the school. All going well, there will be a place all teachers can access these from in the new school year and I might even have more of a bedroom than a resource office in the future! The cleaning team at the school have been having many laughs at my expense and delighting in dressing me up ‘deshi’ style. My words fall on ears not ready to listen when I try to express the fact I am unworthy to wear traditional Indian dress until I learn to speak the language! They go to all lengths to dress me up including the dark under eyeliner and expressive jewelery. One of the senior students from our hostel ... read more

We had a special ceremony on an auspicious day for the planting season. While everyone was getting ready Avatarpuri and I climbed some trees. Phool PuriJi came to do the puja. We said a prayer that the harvest would be good. We got some of the diggers that PuspaJi and the workers would use. Phool Puriji told us its a really good day and constellation to start preparing for the planting. It was like a mother earth day. Phool PuriJi said we should do puja before we start any new projects. The tractor started to plough the field so it was also like tractor puja too! We had some yummy prasad at the end. Mum saw a key sitting on our window sill outside. She asked me about it. I said "Well, no one could get ... read more

It's so hot now, some of the animals are turning brown. I saw a praying mantis that looked like a stick! I've got some boils and heat rash but it's not as bad as last year. I went with Jasraji to the new Gaushala. It was very windy. There was a bit of a dust storm and we couldn't get out of the car the first time. The next time we saw the tractors and I went outside. The workers were using their picks to make a big wall to keep the cows in. Jasraji told them it had to be a bit bigger (even though I don't think they could jump out)! The new Gaushala is across the road from the Ashram, about two minutes to the left. It looks like it'll be better than ... read more

On Thursday I found myself in a blissful moment after the storm. I sensed and smelt it about one hour before it arrived and as soon as the wind started to pick up I went out into the weather to enjoy the wild wind. I SO love the wind. The dust circled in the air and the tree branches picked up their tempo! The scent of jasmine flowers was prolific. The rain was soft and gentle, a very welcome change to the dry climate we have been experiencing. I lay on the warm stones and felt the cool raindrops make small puddles, gradually cooling down the ground. There was a reprieve in the rain and the wind slowed it's intensity. A few people came out from their rooms and we marveled at the power of nature. ... read more

It's such a blessing to have the last of our crew who stayed on to dismantle the Kumbh Mela camp back on board. There have been a few more afternoon sport sessions and longer afternoon tea breaks. When not eating mangoes or looking for mischief, Aiden and Cal have been working on their ANZAC Day challenge badge. Swamiji was in a re-decorating mood and gave instructions for furnishings in several rooms to be shuffled around (many times) before the end of the night. Swami Yogeshji sliding the carpets flush against the wall in the SatGuru Darbar looked something like a Swami grinding a handrail. He was having so much fun, it was certainly one of the classics of the evening! While with some of the girls in one of the storerooms fetching (revolting) animal skin print ... read more

I happened upon an interesting Satsung one evening recently when our Indian Swami Phool Puriji was playing with His newly acquired mobile phone. He was instructed by another Maharaj, to be careful who He calls from the phone, as the person will be able to see the number and can then save the number to contact Him at any time. My parting words were "Enjoy the Shanti while no one has your number!" He is certainly the 'Smiling, saying Yes to everything Swami'. I commented to him one day recently "It is lovely, you are always smiling..." His grin extended further and he replied "Yes, you know, when you are always smiling then you make the others happy'. He sleeps less than me and is such an inspiration! These days He has enjoyed coordinating the unpacking ... read more

Jasraji is back from the Kumbh. He is an Australian Mate of ours and he's a Mahamandaleshwar now. Before that he was a Swami and before that he was just a normal person. I like going to visit Jasraji in his room or in the office. Sometimes he gives me fruit and sweets and we always have Satsung. Yashodaji has left now. We will miss her.... We had fun at Yashodaji's party. Aiden and I dressed up in our capes and I handed out the biscuits and drinks. We had 'shrikhand' too. It's made from hanging yoghurt in a cloth all day and then put in the fridge. It tastes a bit like icecream and we had some fruit inside. Late night construction has been going on at the OM Ashram site. I took some fruit over for the supervisors, that is, the Karma yogis who work there. They oversee the Indian farmers who are hard at work doing.... I'm not sure what with a lot of cement mixers and cranes. It was certainly a hive of activity with some chai to keep everyone awake during the sleeping hours. It's one amazing project, the OM Ashram development. Being quite an eventful evening, I also saw Peter Pan from my veranda. Not sure what a boy was doing so late on one of our balconies.... The kitchen grass where our dishes were being cleaned with ash is now a beautiful shade of green. The challenge has been stepped up since the position of the bins has changed. ... read more

The Jadan Challenge progress update is this: We all need constant reminders to keep up the discipline. While it is well known I do not carry a watch or pay special attention to being particular with my timings, my observation is that in general; our Karma yogis were no longer coming punctually to the new Bandara eating arrangement times. So I conducted my experiment by timing how long it took from the time the dinner bell rang and people dribbled in for us to actually start eating. The answer was 28 minutes (which consisted of waiting until all were seated and then serving the food). While waiting must be something worthwhile developing patience for, it is certainly an indication of how easily our mind can lead us away to what 'it' sees as the important factor... ... read more

One of the most noticeable factors since leaving and returning to Jadan is the increase in temperature. Summer is certainly on the way. We've gone village style here and the water taps have been taped up. It means we now ferry water in buckets and it's meant to be rationed. Just how much water we were previously and currently using will remain a mystery however, considering there is no water meter to give us the stats. It is a good opportunity to bring some more water awareness and reinforce the trust factor. Conveniently the fill up point is right out the front of my door! With the warmer weather, the mossies are making themselves known a little more frequently. India's 'village pharmacy', the Neem tree has been reminding us of it's dominance.
