Hi Guys.. So tam and I took the slightly (by an hour) delayed train from the train station in Goa to Gokarna. The Train station in Goa looked more like a house and when the autorickshaw driver droped us off we though that we were in the wrong place. We took the very packed train sitting on benches with the other passengers. It was a really beautiful train ride. The landscapes in the south are so green and lush. I read most of the way while tamara enjoyed the view. On arrival in Gokarna we realised that the distance to the beach where we wanted to stay was quite long and that the bus was arleady full. We jumped into a autorickshaw which took us down the bumpy roads. We stoped at some point and realised ... read more

So, how do you define a perfect holiday? Lazing on a sun kissed beach with a bottle of Las tequilas or hiking up a mountain with adventure on mind. Well I wanted both and it wasn’t all that hard to choose a spot that offers both. Viva La Goa!!! The picturesque sea side Portuguese colony, bordering the Western Ghats of India was the place to be this monsoon. Shimmering white sands, the swaying palms and the never ending surf were such a temptation it was hard to let go off the place once we were there. A sleepy atmosphere perfected by the locals in tune with the drowsy tourists. Everything runs a little slow here, like delayed body responses after you finish half a bottle of vodka. People eat four times a day like every one ... read more

Hello everyone! We're in Paradise and have not been able to haul ourselves off the beach long enough to get to an internet cafe to keep you updated. Will post some information today, but it's only for our first few days of travel. Will update this again soon. We haven't figured out how to download photos yet, so sit tight. All in all, we're having a great time. We're happy, healthy, and well-fed. It is a little too hot and humid here, but we're surviving OK now that we're on the beach and getting the breeze off of the Arabian Sea. Nice sunsets and lots of stars!! If you want to check out where we are, look up Om Beach and Paradise Beach in Karnataka, India. I'm sure there's lots of pictures on the net already. ... read more

From Diu to Mumbai to Goa to Karnataka, that has been the story of my past few weeks. I worked some sweet dance moves as an extra in a Bollywood movie (for 14 hours!), I experienced the roughly tantalizing effects of a 'famous' head massage on Chowpatty beach in Mumbai, and have been working on doing some uber-relaxation at some Indian beaches. Unfortunately, the weather hasn't exactly been cooperating: the relaxation part is working out but it's been pretty tough to stay dry. A couple of days ago I moved from the idyllic but Westernized Palolem Beach into the small town of Gokarna in Karnataka. I've been traveling with a few new 'mates', a couple of Aussies and Kiwis. And a couple of days ago we decided we'd had enough of Palolem. So we hopped a ... read more

Something short of paradise. Devbagh, which is about 20 kms from Goa is an island where you can actually lead the whole Robinson Crusoe existence. Untouched beaches, the cool surf, shimmering sunlight lighting up a strip of the ocean, barbeques by the ocean , and waking up to the sound of the waves….sigh! And not to forget the extremely cozy log cabins shaded by Casurina trees…(before I start sounding like one of those extremely verbose Indian writers who go on about trees you’ve never heard of, a Casurina tree it kind of looks like a pine tree, but only the cones are much smaller. In fact, next time you’re caught in a tsunami, and there is no other escape, climbing a Casuarina is a recommended option). Your view is dotted with the sight of uninhabited islands ... read more

You may never imagine what it takes when a few old pals regroup themselves for a wild weekend trip. sply when the destination to be is equally unknown with only a few pieces of information available. so, when we started for GOKARN, a 12 hours drive from bangalore, we were basically banking on hopes armed with kulti's multiple assurance and dham's 2 page print-out, which wud rather scare us as it told you what a spiritual site that place is! the hearts sank and so did kulti's chance of coming back as prodipto was determined to dedicate his roommate to the sea-god in case the place turns out to be a flop! bhnuri alias adhikari was given the role of the predator while kulti was the unanimous choice for the victim's! and our other organsier guha ... read more

Bean and I wanted to spend a few days relaxing at the beach before we came back to the cold winter in the US, so we decided to go to a little town on the northern coast of Karnataka that was rumored to have some spectacular beaches with little thatch huts to sleep in. We booked one of the most expensive buses that are available in India for the night journey, hoping that we could actually sleep. Even full size heavily cushioned beds weren't enough to keep the Indian roads from keeping us awake all night. We shared this bus with a bunch of westerners all heading to either Goa or Gokarna. The majority of them were hippies all trying to make it to the party scene in Goa. We were dropped of at the outskirts ... read more

Ok, it has been quite a while, but what with Christmas and all I needed a break! After Palolem so much has happened and it has really been 99% wonderful. Kristen and I went down to Karnatka by train from Palolem. It was the superfast Kerela express from Bombay, and I think Kristen got some of my excitment about train travel. It takes me back to school travel aged 14, 15, 16 from Streatham to Dulwich and other fond memories, but she was also able to see the charm as soon as one blew past going the other direction and knocked all the air out of the carriage - or so it seems. The rhythmic sound of the tracks mesmorized her. It was however a little crowded on the actual train... ahem. It seems that if ... read more

(b) 2/12/02 (day77)(/b) Up at 05:00 hours- packed and left to train station- purchased our Rs 45 tickets!- unbelievably easy. Managed to buy drinks, bananas and bourbon creams and even found the train and a seat easily! (blimey is this really travel in india!) .Quite a few westerners on the train as it goes to goa. Two brits joined us - pleasant company. Four hours later we got off the train and rickshawed to gokarna. Had to stop at a tourist police station en route . They wanted to know everything from how much cash to what colour knickers I was wearing!! Apparently they had to open this station up due to the amount of incidents there were. He also told us that "taking ganga makes you go mental and hurt people" Yes if you have ... read more
