Up at 05:00 hours- packed and left to train station- purchased our Rs 45 tickets!- unbelievably easy. Managed to buy drinks, bananas and bourbon creams and even found the train and a seat easily! (blimey is this really travel in india!) .Quite a few westerners on the train as it goes to goa. Two brits joined us - pleasant company. Four hours later we got off the train and rickshawed to gokarna. Had to stop at a tourist police station en route . They wanted to know everything from how much cash to what colour knickers I was wearing!! Apparently they had to open this station up due to the amount of incidents there were. He also told us that "taking ganga makes you go mental and hurt people" Yes if you have got schizophrenia perhaps......
We eventually got to our hotel "the new prasad nilaya"; there was nowt new about it!! The first room we checked into was dirty; toilet did not flush and shower head fell off. Bri said I'm not staying in here" and off he went to get a bloke. The blokes only words after seeing the bathroom was "problem". Agreed we could change
rooms; Bri refused until it was cleaned to his specifications , which meant twice. We were finally moved to the penthouse suite!!! The only thingj it has going for it is the verandah. Went off to find food, which was not very easy- complete lack of eateries for such a back packy tourist town. Eventually found one- preena; which serves excellent continental and indian food. Wandered around town for a while; very quaint- lots of temples/ shops (very camdeny!) / pilgrims and a beach. Pilgrims here seem to be hardcore(!) than other places we have been . Usual amount of westerners , who've found themselves- prancing around in skirts with bare chests and prayer beads on! (love to see them on oxford street in a years time!!) Had a quick look at gokarna beach- perv tours was on its way!!!- emailed and found out that charlie was born on 15th november; how cute they sent us pickkies...... Returned to the ritz and fell asleep for a while before heading to "green restaurant"- abit like an aircraft hanger , but very good western food. Sunk a few beers and sunk a couple more on our verandah. Bed at 01:00- woken at
04:30 by an alarm clock

Went down to the Preena for brekkie- very good; had brown bread and fresh cheese (very filling) We then went on our expedition called "find a beach!!". Walked along gokarna town beach, where we were asked if we wanted a boat to om beach "oh, no we'll walk!" ....... and walk we bloody did! Past a temple and bathing tank (which if we had bothered to read the lonely planet, we would have known we had gone the wrong way!) Went over headland, along cliffs- it took us 1 and a half hours before we found the correct road!! Eventually landed on kudle beach- pretty deserted beach/ handful of westerners finding themselves! Lay near some rocks for a couple of hours in perfect peace until drums could be heard. Bri looked up and said "I've seen it all now!" There were 3 brits; one playing bongos, one in a sarong and twirling a big stick around his head as though he was Jim morrison dancing with the indians and a girl whom had a past its best sarong on and a huge brown pixie hat on her head!!! I think
Bri and I are too old for all this caper!! Had a quick drink before setting off back on a now 20 minute walk!! Went to green restaurant - had that favourite indian dish- enchiladas!! and a few beers. Sat on our verandah for a while and were entertained by our nearly neighbours "Debbie and ghandi from yorkshire!"We had didgeredoo/ world service and juggling!! Bri reckons they are trying to learn new skills so that they can join the "youth " and live on the beach!Woken at 5am by banging on doors/ talking and general fucking inconsideration!!

Woke up eary- well never really got to sleep(!) and did some washing. Then walked miles to the post office to post xmas cards- no hassle at all in the post office. Eventually went to preena for brekkie- had a mammoth one! We then attempted to get a rickshaw to "Om beach"- the buggers wanted Rs 200 - ha ha therefore we walked to Kudle beach. Slightly overcast but pleasant. Sat and watched the crabs for ages tunneling in the sand. Bri fell asleep... very deserted really. Left at 4ish and emialed for a while. To green restaurant again and
came back and sat on verandah with a quarter bottle of whiskey and vodka- very pleasant. Woken at 05:00 by someone purposefully hacking their phlegm up- sounded like they were doing a death call! I love spitting!!

Woke up absoloutley knackered thanks to the pilgrims in our hotel! Went to preena restaurant for brekkie(huge!) Had fab amul cheese on my toast. Decided to go to Gokarna town beach . Initially thought wrong decision - beach dirty/ full of perv tours and smelt of fish hugely. Decided to walk a bit further (about a mile!) Beach became clean/ very sandy and noone in sight! Infact very few people passed. Sun bloody boiling and at about 15:00 tide started to go out- loads of starfish/ crabs (inside shells!) could be seen. Fisherman (extremely haphazardly!) attempted to catch fish with nets. Left beach just before 4 and returned to hotel for a shower. Decided to have a bit of a splurge in town. Got 2 fab wall hangings (rajahstan style) for Rs 1400- bargain! Spent one and a half hours chatting to the shop owner (abdul) and a erally cool english woman whose living out here for 5 months. Also went to this brother's shop for a toe ring(Rs 50) adn Bri's chrimbo prezzie - a bracelet. Emailed for a while and went to green restaurant again for yet another meal!! I ordered chicken mousakka- it was like 2 chickens in tomato sauce!! Very strange! Returned back to our hotel to find 200 indian people have moved in - Fuch that is another shit nights sleep! Oh well had a perfect day anyway!
