If not Vizag, atleast surendrapuri Ever since I joined my third project, We have been planning an outing, but it never materialized. Somehow we planned an outing to vizag and araku valley during Christmas and new year time last year, but it went off due to obvious reasons. Now 2 months down the line, I started to remember the song "summer of 69", as one of my best friend was getting ready to leave the team and I got an MBA admission and another colleague was moving to a different company, so if not now, we probably may not get another chance to make the trip together in the near future. A bit nostalgic eh.... So, I decided to propose the outing and was happy to see everybody saying "Yes" to it, although we got ... read more

Having spent much of my first night awake and only having had a couple of hours sleep, I checked out from my hotel (given that the owner didn't really help me out much the night before with the taxi driver and that it was costing 600 a night). So I stepped out into the bright Hyderabad morning with the intention of going to one of the other places recommended in the bible. Now this was obviously easier said than done as most streets didn't seem to have names and those that I could see didn't appear on my map. After walking around for a couple of hours, I soon found my new hotel only to then discover that they were full. By now drained by the heat, I decided that what there was to see in ... read more

All, OK well in order to keep everyone up to date I thought I would try one of these travel blog things....whilst enthusiasm is strong though at the momnet, I can always promise that this will be the case....we shall see how we go! Day 1 - Heathrow to Hyderabad I guess there should be nothing to report about flying out of heathrow to then arrive in Hyderabad and sleep should there? Well I guess you would be wrong. The first thing that struck me was that instead of the one security check, it appears when you fly to india you get three, that is 'the normal one', followed then by a checking of details and bags etc to get into the departure gate and then just to make sure that the security guard who had ... read more

OLD COUPLES KASHI YATRA VIA KHAJURAHO (10) 14th October, 2007 - Sunday. At 3 pm we started in the three wheeler to visit Bodh Gaya. As I said earlier Shri Kannayya Lal arranged this three wheeler and the autowallah was waiting in our Lodge from 1 pm onwards. We decided to engage an auto for the reason that the autowallah acts as a tourist guide and in the shortest time he can show all important places in Bodh Gaya (Rs.300 for the trip). Bodh Gaya is at a distance of about 15 km from Gaya. First he has taken us directly to Maha Bodhi Temple where Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment. Bodh Gaya -- MAHABODHI TEMPLE. This temple is very beautiful and neatly maintained. Silence pervades the entire temple. The famous Pipal tree under which Buddha attained ... read more

OLD COUPLES KASHI YATRA VIA KHAJURAHO (9) 12th October, 2007 - Friday. After visiting the Rama Janma Bhoomi sthal, we returned to the room and had breakfast. As we have seen all important places in Ayodhya, we decided to make a move and proceed towards Gaya via Patna. On the way we wished to halt in Gorakhpur for night halt and visit the famous Gorakshanath temple. The Manager of Rampathi Niwas Dharmashala stated that there is a Dharmashala attached to the Gorakshanath temple which provides good accommodation. In fact the city is named Gorakhpur after the famous yogi Gorakshanath. Yogi Gorakshnath is the chief disciple of Yogi Matsyendranath who founded the Nath Sampradaya line of Saints. Here a few words about Yogi Matsyendranath who lived in 10th century. It is said that Yogi Matsyendranath was created ... read more

OLD COUPLES KASHI YATRA VIA KHAJURAHO (7) 8th October, 2007 - Monday. Today we decided to visit Saranath which is at about a distance of 10 km from our place Shankarmath. For the first time, we have decided to go to this place in our Car as upto this time we roamed in Varanasi in Autos and Cycle Rikshaws only. Morning at 8-30 we started from Sankar Math and proceeded to Saranath and we first straight went to Rahi Guest House Restaurant for having breakfast. After we came out of the Restaurant, one person approached us and stated that he is one of the persons serving in a Buddhist Temple and it is his habit to show the places of interest in Sarnath and explain their significance to the tourists and for this he will not ... read more

OLD COUPLES KASHI YATRA VIA KHAJURAHO (6) 4th October, 2007 - Thursday. Today we have again decided to perform Panchamrita Abhishekam to Lord Visweswara and to perform Kumkumapuja to Kasi Visaalakshi. Kasi Visaalakshi temple is one of the Ashtadasa Sakthi Peethams. We requested Shri Dayanidhi to help us perform Panchamrita Abhishekam to Lord Visweswara. If we engage the services of a local priest then only we can leisurely perform the Abhishekam or Pujas in the temples at Varanasi. Otherwise, we will be pushed out of the temple by the priests the moment we have darshan of the icon. They purposely do it for the purpose of earning more money from the pilgrims. Kasi Temple Purohits are not an exception to this rule and I find they are more greedier than the purohits in other temples. Money ... read more

On seeing a Maruti Authorised Service Station by the side of our place of stay, we have decided to give the car for servicing which has so far given untroubled service. We have spent the day in the Sankarmath only. This is a palace belonging to the princess of Kasi who has donated the same to Sringeri Sankarmath. A very big room on the first floor, of 15’ x 30’ with attached bath room three cots and 4 beds was given to us for our stay. We expressed our wish to stay for a period of 11 days.
