Hangzhou - made famous (apparently) by the West Lake and the films filmed there - was, we were told, a must see! So we saw! It was indeed pretty stunning! We opted for 1 night there after an afternoon train there whereby we arrived to thick fog that we could barely see through and pretty nippy temperatures! A stroll around the north east of the lake and a rather lengthy (although extremely successful) food pursuit (Mmmmmm-mmmm do we like dumplings!!!) saw the first day kicked pretty well in to touch! However, it did mean that we had sussed the job out and meant that we could get up and go the next morning. And that we did...well I did anyway. Leaving a snoozing Jen I went around the park to the East of the Lake for ... read more

Narazie gadamy sobie z Lee, oni graja, wreszcie niesmialo czapke z daszkiem wystawiamy i wrzucamy kilka malych jenotow. Czasem ktos tam przejdzie, popatrzy, podziwi sie, popyta skad jestesmy (rozmowy ida nam dobrze, mamy dobrego tlumacza) itd. Jenotow jednak nie przybywa. Zawiazujemy rozmowe z siedzacym akurat nieopodal mlodym, moze 30-letnim Chinczykiem.

Stajemy. Jeden bierze sie za kopnie czegos burakopodobnego. Czyzbym im zjadl wszystkie krewetki? Praca idzie nienerwowo, papieros nie gasnie. Spokojnie wszystko fotografuje. Rozgladam sie - widze wiszacy, bujajacy most przez rzeke. Juz wiem w ktora strone bede gestykulowal. Ruszamy. Jeden przewodnik odnosi co zebral, a z drugim idziemy do domu tuz kolo mostku. Witaja sie z nami i ugaszczaja. Wchodzimy do izby - tak jakby biedno. I jak zwykle - papieros, herbata, papieros, herbata.. No i pogaduchy, z tego bylem ... read more

Remember the write-collar's health-plan?We do mountain-climbing every weekend. And this time we aimed the Baoshu-ta(Baoshu pagoda) on Gem mountain. When you walking along Baidi at broken-bridge of Xihu(west lake),you should see the Baoshu-ta(Baoshu pagoda) on the mountain where is xihu's northern. It's profound makes peoples memorize it because there're not another place is hign and nearby for xihu. A lot of color-lights have been hung the trees on Baoshi shan, so it looks nice in night. Frankly Baoshi shan isn't tough for climbing. The goverment or some society laid several stone-footpath on it. These footpaths give into each direction. There're a few sights could be see on Baoshi shan, such like "gem as sunglow","Yellow dragon spitting jades","Chu balcony","Ziyun grotto" etc. But I think Mostly valuable thing is looking at xihu from high place. After all,Baoshi shan ... read more

First of all, I must apologize about the lateness of these next few entries. Our hostel in Guilin does not have internet (as promised), so I have been unable to post our experiences. Fortunately we found an internet cafe this evening, so you can all be caught up to what we're doing on the other side of the world. The last few days of our adventure have been spent in beautiful Hangzhou, a short 2 hour train ride from Shanghai. Hangzhou is home to the renowned West Lake. In the 13th century Marco Polo passed through the city and described it as one of the most splendid in the world. There are 36 West Lakes in China, but this is the one from which all others take their name. The lake is about 3km long and ... read more

Northern peak is the highest place in Hangzhou. And my wife and me thought that we must reach the peak by walk because we both are the "mountain boy(girl)";), we both come from Yunnan province where are lots of mountain. Since I choose software-programmer as my occupation, I didn't have a little sports or game in outdoor. I've had a table-tennise game three years ago, that's my last sport. It's a long time with no exercise,no deep breath,no hidropoiesis make our health worse and worse. So we made a plan to get rid off this status last week end, that's we would do mountain-climbing every week end if it's fine weather and both we are free. Maybe it's looks has a little waggery, but we're sure this is the best way to good health for white-collar like us. ... read more

Well, that's it. I'm not coming home...ever. I have found my new home in Hangzhou, China. Never heard of it? Neither had I until about a week ago when thumbing through Lonely Planet for a place to chill between bookend episodes of chaos in Shanghai and Hong Kong. A city of 6 million (yeah you read that right), Hangzhou is about 2 hours south of Shanghai on the shores of Xi Hu (West Lake) and is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever seen. This is the China you've seen in postcards and coffee table books. Temples and gardens, arched bridges, weeping willows and fruit trees blanket the landscape. The silhouette of distant mountains are broken only by the occasional peaked roof of an ancient pagoda that looks as though it can be sought ... read more
