Arguments and summits The yak burger was pretty big but after a day of walking an no lunch I was confident that I woul finish it, but alas no…I left two crusts: the bread was so filling! Pierre on the other hande managed to finish his, it was a massive effort. Tonight we are heading back to Leisha’s Restaurant for “Beef Steak”, which jugdging from the comments stuck onto the wall is also supposed to be pretty good. Last night was again cold in the room and the windows froze again, but my sleep was better than the night before albeit still slightly disrupted. The good thing was that th owners of the hotel had agreed to heat up the shower for us in the morning, so when we woke up we were treated to a ... read more

The hills were alive with the sound of me struggling up them Okay so last night we did't make it to the disco, in fact we didn't even make it out for dinner. We were locked up. In the hotel. When we checked into the hotel we asked the question of hot showers and the reply was that they were not available unless we paid an extra 5yuan each, then they would fire up the heater. Also not available was the heater in the room, but we did have electric blankets. We agreed to the extra charge for the chance of a hot shower but the hot water would be ready at exactly 8pm, so we had to be there, especially considering they fired it up just for us. So after writing yesterday's blog it was ... read more

Another day spent mostly in transit Okay so we went to the disco again last night but unfortunately were not treated to any singing, however both Pierre and I were propositioned or so we think...But the real story comes after we left the disco and got back to the hotel. The 'security' man who opened the back gate for us (they locked us out again) told us that we should be careful on the streets late at night, its not safe for foreigners and to top it all off some guys came around asking questions about Pierre earlier in the day...So, who knows whether he was pissed off that we woke him up and he was trying to get us to stop going out or whether we were actually being watched from afar. Anyway, I think ... read more

It wasn't possible to head direct to Langmusi, so we first bussed to Zoige then on from there. Unlike most other places in the Far East, it's illegal to overfill buses here and this seems to be enforced by the police with some degree of rigour. However it doesn't stop drivers from cramming in another couple of passengers if possible - it just means that whenever a police car is seen, or when approaching locations such as toll booths where police are more likely to be lurking, the extra passengers have to crouch in the stairwell or even in spare leg-space of other people's seats until the coast is clear. Langmusi was the coldest place we'd yet been and it resembled a Laos village in that the streets were awash with mud. Pigs ambled randomly, ears ... read more

Today morning we woke up late- 10am and were surprised to see that it is snowing outside - the whole village was white. This could be nice if it wouldn't mean that the bus can't leave the village. After 5 sunny days here and being the only ones who stayed here so long- we rather leave... anyway the snow stopped by now and we are soon leaving. Last night we organized here a seder ke hilhato! we were 6 Israelis: both of us, shaked and maya, Idan -26 electronic engineer- and michal - 22 pastry shef (conditor) who works in China. she made some matzas at lesha's restaurant kitchen and with the advice ... read more

13/9 - After meeting in Xiahe even more Israelis (Dana, Shira, Gal, Eran, and Itay), we took a van to Langmussi. (70Y each, 4.5 Hours Journey). Langmussi is the most beautiful place we have seen so far. it is all surrounded with the greenest grassland you'll ever seen. Big mountains above it, and many nice daily tracks. 2 Tibetans villages, 1 mosque and 1 Sky Burial Site. 14-16/9 - We took each of those 3 days to go on a daily tracks. So we went on the first day to the north part of the town to try to get to an orange range which overlooks the town below. we couldn’t get all the way because of a fans we didn’t want to cross. On the second day we went through 1 of the temples, to ... read more

Friday August 18th We knew we had until 8AM to cancel the trek if it was raining, if we didn't do it before that we would have to go even if it rained. It wasn't raining when we woke but it was cloudy, rainy weather. We walked around but decided not to cancel it as we hoped it would get better. We went to Leisha's and I had the shaksooka. This had to be the best breakfast I've had in my life I'm serious this stuff is great. I love it. Our trek starts at 10AM so we killed time in an internet cafe. By that time it started raining quite a bit which was quite annoying. We went to the office and asked if we could leave a bit later, hoping the weather would improved ... read more
