Wow, let's talk now about the song contests organised at university... I am glad that you have watched the video of my song in one of my entries, thus I scarcely need to point out that I haven't sung in public since, needless to say they haven't asked me either, oops... So, no comments about the reasons why they haven't invited me to perform again, you see, I read in my horoscope again that one of the features of leo is that we're good at almost everything we do. That 'almost' may include things like singing... sorry, I can't think of anything else, and this is not out of modesty. :-) However, I've had the chance to meet some outstanding singers at uni: my students are great. Throughout the year, they hold different song contests and ... read more

So let me start by apologizing for taking so long to write another blog. I did not fall of the face of the earth but I did get a little caught up. For the past couple of weeks I was a substitute teacher for one of the year one English teachers... Her mom came to visit so she took leave. It was actually a very fun experience. I took over 3 of her year one classes and basically had to cover two units... Used the text books that she was using and gave them in class activities, some homework and a short writing assignment... The flip side of the writing assignment was that I had to grade their work too and return it haha:) It wasn't bad though so no complaints. Now I have had some ... read more

Well, I had thought of this for a long time, you know, to catch up with you in a better way, so now apart from my travels, whenever I have the time, I will try to write sth here so that you, my friends, know exactly what I am currently doing. And the lights went out... On a different point, I had been told last year that in order to prevent students from playing computer games till 3:00 am, the university's new policy will have students' electricity cut out at 11:30 pm every day; I thought it was quite strict but again, I thought procrastination would get in the way; and just now, I 'm hearing lots of noise, people shouting on the streets, so I rushed to the balcony to learn that the shouts came ... read more

So as you can see, we have this beautiful pool... One of the biggest pools I have ever seen! azure blue carved into the side of a lush foresty mountain. Almost looks like you are in some tropical resort. ONE @#%$#&#&$TEGDFHFH PROBLEM... It's only open 3 hours a day, which means its closed 21 hours a day. And it's not even open during sun-tanning hours. It is open daily only from 5PM-8PM... TIC TIC TIC TIC. I guess the Chinese here cannot multi-task. I will upload pictures in which you will see the Chinese holding umbrellas open on a perfectly clear blue skyed day. Why you ask? They don't want to tan. I suppose in the past the lighter your skin color was the higher your social status was. So my theory is that Chinese cannot ... read more

So after receiving a few inquiries as to the massage parlor I will make some clarifications. 1) It is open 24/7 2) you can get a REAL massage for 30RMB/hour 3) YES for all those curious souls, if you wish you can get some extra attention 4) I stuck to the regular massage which excluded the happy ending. 5) any other questions? Also about the Italian restaurant.... It was fantastic. The pizza was delicious and we also got some salads with imported Ricotta cheese. Mouth watering!! Especially since you can't get Western food here with great ease. Last night I attempted to order some Western food, but alas, it was not meant to be. I ordered a club sandwich, asked for it w/o pork/bacon, and was very disappointed to find out that it consisted of small ... read more

So the day started out pretty... a little sunny, then got very overcasted... there is a layer of yellowy haze every other day... I suppose it is the Chinese contribution to global warming. Then just a few minutes ago we had a rainstorm. So about the first week of school. We are currently in charge of two classes of 40 each. and we alternate between each class everyday. So so far I have presented three lectures. Last night the theme was cultural awareness. I use powerpoint with photos and bullet points to keep the students interested and attentive. so far so good. I had a discussion going on which according to the teachers here is hard to get. The chinese are usually very quiet. But I was discussing the cultural differences between the chinese and the ... read more

So some students helpers came to pick us up from HK and take us to the ferry crossing terminal to Zhuhai (mainland China). At the terminal we met our head boss, Prof. Eva Lai who is heading the English program. The ride took a little over one hour. Crossing the delta of the Pearl River from the East to the West. On the way we could see Macau which borders to the south with Zhuhai. A bus was waiting for us at the border and took us to the UIC campus which was opened in 2005 and is currently still under construction. This campus is actually very beautiful. It is situated 45 minutes from DT Zhuhai and is surrounded by forested hills. The university only has a student population of a little over 2000 students but ... read more
