My final day in Huizhou. I felt like I had seen pretty much all there was to see by the end of yesterday, apart from one section of the lake. So after a leisurely start to the day, I headed off to take a look around that part. I walked back through Fengzhu Park taking pictures of some things I had missed the day before because I had been a bit too tired by that point. The stone boat reminded me of the Summer Palace in Beijing, which is one of my favourite places to go in Beijing. I also spent more time photographing the lotus flowers, they never fail to impress me. When I got to the other side of the lake, I took the path in the opposite direction to the one I had ... read more

I had grand plans of getting up super early and heading out to beat the heat, but of course that didn't happen. Once I was eventually sorted I headed out for a wander around the lake. First stop was to take some photos of the alley I was staying in. It's really cute with all the lights, lanterns and murals on the walls. Then down to the lake. I liked the figurines that are there to get your photo taken with. I totally missed them the night before. It was nice to see the lake in the day time. It looked pretty, large and peaceful. Since it was so hot, there weren't too many people about and those that were by the lake were sheltering under the shade of the trees. The security guard sitting napping ... read more

Finally, off to visit Huizhou, a smaller city that is close to Shenzhen. Even though Huizhou is really close getting there is a bit of a pain in the backside. I opted for the slower cheaper route of subway and bus. Subway was nice and simple just ride it to the end of line 3 and then transfer to the bus. Although the bus took just over 2 hours and wasn’t the most comfortable as it was just a regular bus, not a fancy coach or anything, it was actually less faff than getting the train and having to go through all the security and ID checks. It was also a bargainous 9 RMB. China isn’t too cheap any more but there are still some good deals about. The journey was uneventful and I just watched ... read more

When I was offered my job with Jeanswest in February the next question was to ask if my passport was still valid, because in a month’s time they were sending me to China. After the usual Monday morning meeting a couple of colleagues and I were rushed off in a taxi to Melbourne airport to catch an afternoon flight to Hong Kong. After an 8 hour flight we arrived in Hong Kong after midnight and spent the first night in the airport hotel. The next morning we met for breakfast in the hotel restaurant then soon after were picked up by colleagues from our Jeanswest China team who had driven all the way from Huizhou. We all jumped in the van and crossed into China as we made the 3 hour drive to the industrial city ... read more
