Yonding es una pequeña ciudad de la provincia China de Fujian, bastante cercana a Longyan. Pequeña, no implica que deje de ser un lugar bastante bullicioso por las mañanas, con una interesante actividad comercial con todo tipo de establecimientos y donde se pueden encontrar servicios mínimos como hoteles, ciber, etc; si bien las comunicaciones por tren o autobus no son las mejores. Eso sí no esperéis encontrar estándares internacionales... Las comidas bastante buenas, también los puestos callejeros, como muchas verduras a la plancha. Aquí he comido unos de los mejores noodles fritos, ¡a un precio de 4 yuanes!. Especialmente interesantes son las típicas construcciones que se pueden encontrar en los alrededores, los paisajes y elementos culturales que aún permanecen. Finally had the opportunity to venture away from the city, went on a tour with 17 expats. It was truly a United Nations gathering with folks from United States, Russia, Germany, the Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Australia and India. We travelled to the adjacent province Fujian to view the Yongding Hakka Tulou. These are amazing world cultural heritage buildings made of rammed earth, some of them built more than 600 years ago. Many of the Hakku people still dwell in these ancient structures! We spent 3 days viewing assorted ancient places from the Thousand Buddhist Tower to the Chuxi tulou cluster. The Hakka people live a simple life many of them still using wells for their water. But in these same rustic villages you'll see satellite dishes. Vrijdag 18 juli. Met privé busje vertrokken we voor een tweede verkenning van de Hakka woningen namelijk deze van de Chuxi groep. Met vlaggen langs de weg werden we verwelkomd. We beklommen eerst 351 trappen om van op een hoogte van 600 meter het overzicht van het Hakka dorp te bewonderen. Het is de residentie van de Xu clan, bevat ronde, rechthoekige, vierkante en zeshoekige tulou’s gebouwd gedurende de Ming- en de Qing dynastie en in moderne tijden. Stromend water, bruggetjes, stenen voetpaden zijn in harmonie met de terrassen, groene bergen, blauwe lucht en wolken. In april 1989 werd de aanvraag ingediend om deze tulou’s aan de lijst van het culturele werelderfgoed toe te voegen en sinds 2006 is het een beschermd gebied.
