Hiya Folks, its me again. And judging by the comments from last time this comes as a bit of light relief for those fed up of beer reviews and not much detail! .... prepare to be bored!! As I get to guest write on the blog I also get to kinda choose where to base mine and again we are on the beach. This time Sihanoukville in Cambodia. Bet not many of you realised Cambodia had a beach?! Well I didn't really either, but am very surprised. It is gorgeous!!! Long sandy beaches, brilliant blue sea which is warm, very hot and sunny with a blue sky and unlike other beaches we have visited this trip there are lots of bars and restaurants right on the beach front. Ahh bliss!! Well, our journey to Sihanoukville was ... read more

left Siem Reap after a jam packed 3 days. It was very tourist driven I was quite looking forward to moving onto the next destination. we were to make our way down to Sihanoukville on the south coast of Cambodia. (couldn’t wait to get in the sea!) But first we headed to a town on the Mekong river where we stayed in quite a nice hotel and had amazing views over the river. We arrived in time for lunch and had some food in a restaurant just down the road where weirdly enough the owner was Canadian and looked the spitting image of Freddy mercury. Dave the tour leader then recommended we hire out bikes and head over a bamboo bridge to an island. I was a bit worried as I am not the most athletic ... read more

Just a quick update today as not been up to too much. We headed down to the Cambodian coast and had a few days enjoying the sunshine and white sands at Sihanoukville before heading out to Vietnam (back via Phnon Pehn as always!) so preparing for two days on a coach. The coaches are ok they are a big dirty and always crowded but importantly they are cheap and you travel with mainly locals so you feel more part of the culture than private tourist buses. The only problem is they blast out stupidly loud Cambodian music videos on a TV screen at the front, and ask they use CDS they are always skipping due to bumpy roads so it sounds even worse than usual. Sihanoukville is a really nice little town and quite a few ... read more

Word to you all! hope all is good back in your respective homes. i will apologise for this entry as it will condence my couple of weeks in cambodia into one entry! i hope for your sakes that it wont go on for to long! crossing into cambodia from thailand, is quite a testing and entertaining expiernce! i crossed into cambod through the notoroius town of Poi Pet, the wild west of cambodia! the rip of merchants run the town! there are no tarmac roads to speak of, its just dust roads, which makes traveling a little uncomfortable! The bus that runs from Poi Pet to Siem Reap (thailand defeated) is more comonly know as the skam bus! i met some people who had traveled the skam bus and it had taken them 11 hours to ... read more

I will not claim to be well traveled, as I am yet to see more than a sliver of the world. Nevertheless, I have started to notice patterns which emerge in the tourist's world. My thesis is this: tourists never visit the right places, we always visit the "tourist" places. The example which is glaring me in the face as I write is the small seaside town of Sihanoukville, a pleasant little place that reminds me of Harvey Bay in Queensland. We are staying in a rather pricey accommodation (due to the relative unavailability of triple rooms anywhere in the world) which is only a short walk from Serendipity Beach; the supposed backpacker centre of the area. Now, if I were an enterprising businessman (here's hoping) attempting to set up a backpacker hangout, I would do ... read more

Jedavali sme 2x denne a vela plavali - takto fit som sa uz dlho necitila ... read more

I set off for Sihanouckville early Friday morning. The bus ride down took us through some beautiful scenery, and surprisingly I was one of the few westerners on the bus. For the last hour of the ride, the little kid next to me fell asleep on my shoulder. I exchanged smiles with his parents across the aisle and we let him sleep until we arrived. As I got off the bus I was approached by several moto drivers, but I kept telling them that I needed to use the internet. One of them followed me and he agreed to take me to the internet and then a guest house afterward. I checked the email and found one from Mickan so I asked the driver to take me over to their guest house on weather station hill. ... read more

Another update already! So, after spending a few day in Phnom Penh it was off to Sihanoukville, a beach town on Cambodia's southern border. Sihanoukville is a popular weekend destination for wealthier Cambodians from Phnom Penh (sadly there aren't that many) as it takes around 2 hours to get there by car. Sihanoukville was described to me as a much more toned down version of Thailand's beaches and islands. After spending 5 days there, I would say that's probably the best way to put it. Small by many city standards, Sihanoukville has several beaches facing different directions but we managed to keep ourselves staitioned at Serendipity Beach the whole time. Because the weather is so hot on the coast right now, most of the days were spent on the beach under shade of umbrella. Occasionally I ... read more

Khao San Road: The Return Kate So we spent a couple of nights on the Khao San Road in Bangkok, not doing much of note. Oh, except that we bumped into Marc, who we first met on the elephant project and then again in Pai. He was just sat in a bar on the Khao San Road as we walked past, so it was cool to catch up with him again. By the way, if you're reading this Marc - sorry we stood you up when we arranged to meet the following night! We decided to head for Cambodia (see below!) and didn't know how to contact you. E-mail us and we'll see if there's any chance of hooking up before you leave Thailand! Strange border crossings While we were there we got some emails from ... read more
