Went on a gorgeous longtail boat trip today through mangrove forests to a completely deserted beach somewhere off the Cambodian coast! Jo and I found a good rock and sunbathed and swam- clear waters, white sand and completely tranquil! The guide cooked us barracuda on a BBQ- with salad and baguettes- for lunch then had a trek through the jungle before trying some yummy jackfruit (supposed to be smelly and banned on buses coz of the stench but was delish!) Looking forward to some pancakes with mango sorbet and chocolate- we spied them round the corner (and probably the reason why this is a short one!) Spending next couple of days on the beach getting a tan and finding out how to get to Vietnam- probably another epic bus journey! Hope you're all well, miss you! ... read more

Sun 11th March Got up at 6.30 am and got the bus to Sihanoukville. It was a pretty uneventful bus journey, straighforward. Got off the bus and got the Moto. Yes, they fit a giant rucksack at the front of a motorbike and you sit on the back riding pillion. There are no helmets here for driver or passenger. So we got to a nice hotel called 'G.S.T guesthouse'and hired a bungalow, it's pretty nice and about 100 metres from the beach. Sweet. So we just chilled out, watched TV for a bit and then hit the beach. There are loads of beaches here, the one next to us is Ochheateal beach (Neither of us can pronounce it). It leads on to Serendipity and some other beach that the locals seem to like best. At ... read more

Hey all, Well for the last two weeks Izabela and Kris have been chilling at their new home in Sihanoukville, Cambodia. Utopia, the yellow building with the free dorms, good food, friendly yet crazy atmosphere and never-ending boozing, has become a place for both of us to relax, chill out with people from all over the world (mostly Sweden), and party! We’ve left our humble abode once to go to Kampot, a small river town an hour and a half away. Six of us rented a jeep which made for an interesting bumpy ride, where Kris got to drive. At one point, because we were lost, Kris had to do a 3-point turn around and graciously ran into a hammock. Seconds later, a disappointed Khmer man pokes his head out of the hammock, obviously because ... read more

After the heat of Siem Reap and Phnom Penh we felt it was time to go to the beach. And when you are in Cambodia and want to go to the beach you go to Sihanoukville. It's a small town divided into the 4 beaches and a downtown area. The population is 77 000 and I reckon about 75 000 of them are motorbike drivers. Every ten second or so you get "motorbike sir?". Not a problem though, just comical. Well, we thankfully found a room for four dollars, cheap cheap thinking that we arrived just in time for the Chinese new year. A guy from the place where we stayed in Phnom Penh knew this place and booked a room for us. He said it would be 8 dollars, but thankfully it was only 4 ... read more

Arriving in the coastal town of Sihanoukville, you can instantly notice that there is an easier going pace of life and a relaxed atmosphere. We hire a scooter between the two of us, and then proceeded to explore the rest of the town. It really was a great afternoon. We check out three of the four beaches in the area and decided that the mood was right for a lazy beer. We popped into a bar called the Monkey Republic. A funky little bar with straw roof and cheap jugs of the local tasty beverage. Run by ex-patriot Brits, it was nice to be able to talk to somebody and they understand you (well sort of anyway). Stu, the owner plays us a bit of Crowded House; we got a little bit homesick and had ... read more

Hey everyone, I know, we haven’t emailed in a while and we’ve wanted to but we’ve just been so busy. Nonetheless, we’re in Cambodia right now, more specifically, Sianouhkville (sp?). It’s on the coast of Cambodia, so we’re back to warm water and sand. We were in Bangkok for about 5 days, just enjoying life there, eating street stall food, meeting new people, and kicking back with a cocktail in our hands watching street life. Because of weather patterns, we decided to reroute our trip and caught a bus to Siem Reap in Cambodia. We got royally scammed with how much we had to pay for our visa, the bus ride there (it was supposed to be 5 hours and instead it was 7 hours!!). But whatever, we found a kick ass place for $6 ... read more

After flying into Phnom Penh on Thursday night, a tuk tuk driver took me to my guesthouse (Sunday Guesthouse). It was funny seeing the motorbikes driving in all directions weaving in and out of each other. Straight to sleep as I had an 8am bus trip to the beach town of Sihanoukville. Due to Chinese new year on Saturday, finding a place to stay proved difficult but I found a place downtown for 3 nights. After walking around town on Friday afternoon, I took a 30 minute stroll to the beach in the evening. I sat at the Eden bar at 8pm for dinner and drinks and left there at 3am after quite a few $1 beers. The sound of firecrackers woke me early on Saturdayand I witnessed the new year customs as I walked around ... read more

We are doing fine here in Sihanoukville the beach capital of Cambodia. The sand is nice and there is plenty of crowd free beach and tons of food options. Our first full day at the beach we over did it and Jasmine got sun burnt. The hawkers can get annoying but if you want for anything as you lounge on the sand it can be delivered to you (prawns, squid, fruit, jewelry, sunglasses, charity cases, spring rolls, souvineers, massage and the list goes on), for excape our hotel has a quiet pool. The place has a slight feel of being spoiled already by tourism compared to most of the rest of Cambodia but the potential for growth here is huge. I was out doing some arrands last Thursday by moto (motorcyle with driver) and he made ... read more

Dear everyone in the world, but mostly our friends and relatives, we have arrived in Sihanoukville. It is a pretty little beach place on Cambodias south-west coast in the Gulf of Thailand. Firstly however, we left Mui Ne and headed for Saigon on the bus about a week ago. Didn't stay there long as it is a big city and from one country to the next they have been pretty much the same. We did go to a five star hotel for cocktail and watch the sunset from the rooftop bar (very expensive, so we only had one) which was beautiful. We also went for dinner in a french restaurant where we had another cocktail and then a bottle of wine from Cafayate (Argentina) and some pretty special grub (duck confit samosas were a real treat). ... read more
