The cruise was sooo much fun and we took advantage of the many services on offer. There were loads to keep the folks entertained, especially during the many days at sea. We also made our own involving loads of smuggled on alcohol. I dont think I have ever laughed so much in my life! Apart from eating (which did take up loads of time). There were the arts and crafts classes, where we got to make a valentines card - we learned how to marble and make a pop out heart. The teacher was hilarious and said seriously "ín the art world we fold the paper hot dog or hamburger" (aka portrait/landscape) I didnt realise we were in the art world!. Also how to make a stuffed fish pin (!), how to decorate a sun glasses ... read more

Hello What an amazing continent! What an amazing experience! Feel very lucky and special to have stepped onto the Antartic, and to have seen what I have seen. After nearly 2 days at sea, our first stop was Half Moon Island, which is in the Antartic Convergence but not actually Antartica itself. We got kitted out in all our warm clothes and our FREE Marco Polo red expedition parkas and boarded our zodiacs to take us from the cruise liner to the shore. It was soo cold (it is the Antartic!) and we began to wish we could go back in time and buy those water proof trousers - especially when a huge wave hit us! It was stunning, we saw loads and loads of chinstrap penguins. They were soooo many and they were so cute. ... read more

February 5th, 2006, evening after cruising the Gerlache Straight of the Antarctic Peninsula We will be here for 3 days, weather permitting and then make our way to Africa by the 18th. Day 31 of our cruise of 105, 74 to go. Yesterday, as we arrived in the Antarctic, for lunch, we were feted with a snowflake buffet; there were carved ice shrimp boats and sculptures of Antarctic themes- see devilled eggs picture. Superbowl Sunday, Terry is with the crowd, I can’t find him! He just walked in!! He tells me that he was sitting with a fine gentleman from Toronto called Ross, rooting for Seattle-Hello you all from Sea Hawk country. We spent the whole day on deck, in our pink and gold “Circle of the Sun” outfits; temperature is in the freezing range. We ... read more

Slept in. Awake at 10am. Headed in to the city again and to the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb. We are on the 12.05 climb. It takes three hours but that isn’t all climbing. Firstly you sign an information sheet for them and have a breath test. Then you are given the most unflattering gray boiler suit. We had too get caps and hankies and everything is attached by clips so you can’t drop them. Apparently it can cause damage to cars! There were 12 people in our group we walked along the underside of the bridge. The mesh can be seen through and it is a long way to the ground. Climbed the ladders and you come up between the traffic. It is a weird experience. After that bit it is so much easier on the ... read more

Morning... Musee Cluny, Pantheon and McDonalds! We finally slept in past 7am! We headed down to breakfast around 8:30am, the latest morning so far! The headed off to the Musee d' Cluny, home of the Unicorn Tapestries! There is also supposed to be a garden set in a medival style based on the tapestries, but I don't know that we found it. There was a garden out front, but who knows... The building was cool, very medival. We headed down the street to the Pantheon. The inside was really cool, the largest pendulum in the world hangs from the top of the dome. We debated on walking up the 206 stairs to the top of the dome, and finally caved in and did it. Yes, it was worth it, got some great shots. But we whined ... read more

Friday Morning.... We are still waking up at the ass crack of dawn, but I think that is more the bed than the time change. You cannot stay in this bed too long, at least I can't, my hip has been hurting like you would not believe. We went down and had our baguettes and cafe before heading off to the Louvre. We got to the Louvre around 8:30am, half an hour before they opened. I think we were the 4th or 5th group in line. The nice this was we had the museum pass and didn't have to purchase tickets once inside. So we ended up being the first ones into the museum exhibits. Being that it was so early, we got to see the beautiful sunrise again. I took this picture while we were ... read more

Less than 2 weeks to go. 10 days to be precise. Starting to get really excited. Am beginning to realise that there is rather a lot of things that need to be done before then. I think (or hope) that we have bought everything that we need. We have had the injections. I had to have 3 but Tim only had to have 2! This seems grossly unfair. It was something to do with one of his being a triple vaccine. Anyway we are now covered for polio, tetanus, diphtheria, typhoid and hepatitis A. We also got the malaria tablets. Wow, those things are expensive. We are still recovering from the shock of it costing £85.85 each! I think most of the things we need to book in advance are sorted out. We have bought our ... read more

Howzit all (ca va?) We caught a train down to Biarritz about five hours from Paris (Mountparnasse station) It was lunch time when we got there so had to wait two? hours for the Europcar guy to pick us up. We're in Bath at the moment. It absolutely beautiful. I feel like we are really in England now (London didn't quite have that quaint feel I wanted). We stopped in at Stonehenge yesterday. It was very nice, but a little disappointing not to be able to walk amoung the stones. This morning we went to the Bath Abbey which was beautiful and to the Roman Baths. That was my favorite so far. I loved it. We are catching a train into Wales to Swansea and from there Fishguard. We will take a night ferry on to Rosslare and eventually get to Dublin. We are having a blast!... read more

It is quarter to eight in the evening and the sun is just about beginning to set. It has been largely overcast through the day. The room at the York Mariott is nicely opulent without being overbearing. There is a great view of the lush greens of the race course…lusher from the fresh spate of rains that have been hitting the area since the past two days. England can be wonderfully picturesque - only if it didn’t rain that incessantly.   The room is dimly lit and I am enjoying the view as well as the latest at Athens (the controversies included!).Munching in fresh green salad and smoked salmon. Just finished chatting for the nth time (at the suggestion of an old boss who is now a dear friend) with my husband who has spent his ... read more
