Habari! So my time here is flying by and I will be heading home in one week! But I wanted to give you all another update before I head home :D I think the most exciting thing that has happened in the last week or so is that I got to go on Safari for two days! I wasn’t planning on going on one, but one of the local women we work with at another children’s home was able to get us an amazing deal so last Thursday and Friday we head off to Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro crater. Morning Campers! Peered out of tent into the mist to be greeted by a huge turd, kindly left by the hungry buffalo. There were also couple of crazy zebra prancing around the campsite - alternately nuzzling, nibbling and kicking at each other. The Crater The scenery at the crater was spectacular: a vast landscape with rolling clouds and the lake sparkling in the morning light. There were lots of Masai villages dotted along the hillside, and plenty of Masai men wrapped up in their blankets, trying to sell us bracelets. The game drive was fantastic! We ventured down to the lake which was dotted with flamingo. Then we saw a few male lions and a pride harrassing some tough looking buffalo. At 2200m above sea level we got a great night's sleep, away from the oppressive heat that has characterised so many of our Africa trip's nights so far. We ate a quick breakfast and were soon back in the minibus, christened Mystery Van due to featuring in Scooby Doo, and travelling down the crater descent road. Our driver, James, was evidently an off-road specialist because he was pretty good at driving today. His white-knuckle-ride display yesterday was nearly forgotten. The 20km wide crater has some of the richest concentration of big game anywhere and is one of the best things either of us have ever seen. So I decided to give everyone a couple of days to get over the last entry before taking you off to Eden in Africa on this entry. We saw thousands of healthy, strong animals in a green, lush environment that makes you imagine Noah and his Ark, the Lion King or whatever piece of culture you subscribe to. Anyway, we had some brilliant luck seeing these animals interact, work as families and even be very funny.
