So on my last full day in Cape Town I actually got to see all of Table Mountain from the more famous side. YAY (have a photo...will try to add when I get a chance). Early morning flight means very early morning wake up call. My hotel is awesome. They gave me a wake up call...and left me a big pot of coffee outside my door and also packed me a HUGE breakfast to go...awww...was a really great place! Decided to use the hotel driver to take me to the airport. Turned out to be the same guy that picked me up from the hospital. I have such bad luck at this airport because as we turned off the highway to the airport...there was a big accident involving at least two trucks. Waited...waited...no other way into ... read more

Hello All! I will strive to make my entry look more interesting by using lots of *silly *text *formats but I'll probably screw up somewhere along the line! Well, I am here in (non-sunny) South Africa! (It is their winter after all)! Yesterday morning I was picked up at the airport by "Ms. i-to-i" herself, the South African co-ordinator whose young daughter (with the same name as me) held the sign. I was then driven to a homestay for one night in Kommtejie (I think I have spelled that right), showered and taken for lunch at a lovely "farm." I stayed in a really nice house full of a family of surfers where you could stand on the deck and hear the surf, but it was chilly & rainy so I didn't wander to the beach. ... read more

Hello again! So I've really hit the ground running since my last entry! Yes, I made it to the wineries and the peninsula AND Robben Island! Horray!! So much to say. So much history. Instead of blabbin away I've added more photos (1000 words each right?). In brief, Saturday I went on a winery tour. Stellenboch, Paarl and Franchoek regions (you'll see these regions in our SA section of the liquor stores). Sunday, Cape Peninsula, beautiful! Sunshine most of the day allowed this fabulous shot of the cape...WOW hey?! Also saw African Penguins and Dassies (plus many other creatures). Then today, Monday, Robben Island. This is where Nelson Mandela and many others where held political prisoners for the many years during apartheid. Remember, apartheid only ended in 1994. If I get a chance later I'll elaborate ... read more

Well after being very disheartened at not being able to get the Carolina game on tv we decided to drown our sorrows with a cask of wine and some springbok shots; this did not make for a very good morning! So after getting up and rushing out of our hostel we drove the 40 k to gainsbay and did the pre dive briefing, had some breakfast, our gravol pills and felt quite confident heading out to view the sharks. We boarded the boat late because one women came from Cape Town and missed her bus. We head out into the mighty Atlantic; the sea was angry today!! Immediatly started fighting 10 foot swells and rainy weather. We arrived at Shark Alley and right away saw a shark attacking bait from another boat. We dropped anchor and ... read more

Since the last entry we have stayed at Bucanneers in West Cintas. Took quite an adventure to get there (4 hours late and many wrong turns). Seems the South Africans like to change the names of their freeway exits to confuse travellers. Really nice hostel on the beach with lots to do. Friendly staff and free wine. Spent 3 days on the beach, suntanning and boogie boarding. Nights drinking, playing pool and bbq'ing. Then we were off to Plettenburg bay. Arrived in the evening and left early to see Monkeyland. Lots of different types of monkies and even more hungry mosquitos!! Highlight of the day was definately Cheetahland. Many crocs, lions, tigers, jaguars (but no bears, oh my!). Got to play with and get pics with a cheetah and a white bengal tiger. Up close you ... read more

Afternoon from Cape Town..... Just a quick update on what we've been doing since we left Greece, it's Kelly typing again, as Ju is trying to upload about a hundred photo's on a pc next to me, and it's taking ages. I can't believe how many thousands of miles we now are from home! We left Gatwick on the 10.5 hr flight to Joburg, then got a connection to Cape Town which took another 2 hrs, so we were pretty knackered when we finally got to our hostel. (we did squeeze in a meal at Joburg airport, which I'm ashamed to say was a Wimpy! Ah well). We had 2 seats each on the flight, as it was barely a third full, but we still only got around 3 hours sleep as we had lovely turbulence ... read more

Hello from South Africa. Hello from Cape Town! I made it! Well...some of you may have heard and some may not so I'll keep it brief. First of all I'M OK! But a couple of days ago...few! On the flight I got real sick. Turned out to be really bad food poisoning and as a result I became severely dehydrated and as a result of that I fainted a bunch, and barfed a bunch, flight attendants, paramedics, customs officers, ambulance, hospital, nurses, doctors...WHAT A STORY! It all ended (hours later) with a call to my hotel. They sent someone to fetch me and wow what a fabulous hotel it is! I LOVE IT. Anyway...back on track... Today I managed to get out and wander my neighbourhood. CIVILIZATION HORRAY!! I'm staying in an area call the V ... read more

Well I figured it has been awhile since my last update and I should inform everyone of my whereabouts even if its still in Cape Town. I've been pretty laid back here and have enjoyed lots of the local sights, but also trying to be cautious of what I spend because for once I'm not in a really cheap country and can't just do anything I want. Fortunately for me the weather has agreed with that plan and showered rain on us for quite a few days and made it easy to read and make my daily trip to the grocery store. Ryan arrived safe and sound and followed pretty much the exact same sleep pattern as I did, not that there is much of a pattern to just sleeping constantly. We've become acquainted with most ... read more

After the delights of Hermanus, we moved to Swellendam - best described as rural. You couldn't fault the view, if you could see it through the cloud of mosquitoes, so we swiftly moved to ostrich country. Oudsthoorn is a nice little town, built on the wealth of ostrich feathers. The last big boom came to an end in 1914, so they have now diversified into eating them as well as selling the feathers - a damn fine chilli the mince makes! The area is known as the Little Karoo or desert, as the mountains block the weather fronts coming in from the sea and the fields around town are full of ostriches. The town is full of grand buildings or "feather palaces" as they are known and for the first time so far, you actually feel ... read more

Hey All, Yeah I have learned quite a bit of spanish now so I thought I would show off a bit. I wrote it and my spanish teacher corrected quite a bit although most of it was right in the first place. I bought Harry Potter number 2 before leaving so that I could practice. There is no English version of the previous blog entry and there may be one in Swahili or something? I doubt it but who knows. It is confirmed that I am Argentinian. After getting off the flight and into a shuttle a couple on the flight asked me from what part of Argentinia I was from, or if I was from Buenos Aires....then I spoke. Lynne: Not sure who you are and not sure if you will read this but I ... read more
