Early Sunday morning we headed to downtown JoBurg Park Station to take our 4.5 hour Greyhound bus ride to Nelspruit (East of JoBurg). It was a luxury coach with comfortable seats. After checking into our hotel, we hit the Riverside Mall where we had lunch, did some surfing at in internet cafe, shopped, browsed the local Casino, saw Miami Vice and then had dinner at Nando's (Niraj's favourite spot). After dinner we had an early night as we had a 5am departure for the Safari the next morning. Monday morning we headed to Krueger National Park in our open-top Safari truck truck with our tour guide Bronson. We entered the park right when it opened at 6am to catch the early morning movement of the animals in the national park. We were lucky enough to see ... read more

Let me start by saying that we're not in Nelspruit in spite of what it says on this blog. We are in fact in Hazyview (the Bootjack of South Africa). I no longer know what's been happening for the last week and am not even certain of what I wrote about last time. Here's a quick recap. For those who don't know, Brick and Fred are Ashley's parents at whose home we lived for four (three?) days while in Wilderness. Ashley is a co-worker of mine at George's office. She is South African. Wilderness is a beautiful coastal town scarcely on the eastern side of the point on South Africa where (supposedly) the Atlantic meets the Indian. Now for why I've lost total track of time.. The Bungee jump. There's a brief moment at the instant ... read more

As part of our recent Blyde River Canyon trip, we took the opportunity to venture into Kruger for two days. We made some progress on the Big Five, but sadly the leopards remained elusive. The lions made an appearance inside our first five minutes in the park, but unfortunately it was too dark for anything other than a black blob on the pictures. Four more Rhinos were also viewed to add to our Hluhluwe National Park collection, but only at a distance. The buffalo pictures were rubbish, so we are holding fire on their release pending an improvement. We are now in Pretoria, of which we can't pass much comment because we've arrived in the dark and we leave for a six day proper Kruger safari on Saturday.... read more

Feb 6-9 2006, Kruger National Park I did a four day safari with Livingstone Trails at the Kruger National Park, South Africa's largest. On our way to the park, we saw the Blyde River Canyon, which was beautifull. Inside the park, we met a pride of lions. They were walking on the road "escorting" our vehicle. The next day, we saw an elephant bull ahead us on the road. He was less friendly, it some point it seemed like he is going to charge us, but then he stopped. Neverthless, he didn't allow us to pass by him on the road, and we had to take a detour. Later in the day, we saw a group of female elephants and their young grazing by the road. They seemed friendlier, or at least did not pay any ... read more

So the course had finished and the instructor had kindly given me a lift to the nearest major town. I was dropped off at the Road Lodge, which is SA's equivilent to a Travel Lodge. Ahhh luxury: en suit bathroom, tv, ELECTRICITY, air con and a supermarket across the road. Such luxuries I had forgotten existed.... Neilspruit is the gateway to Kruger Park. On top of that while I was there it was announced that the town would be hosting games in the 2010 world cup. So what did I do while I was here? Showered Watched some tv Showered Had a shave Showered Had a major junk food fest! Showered Watched some more tv while trying to shower at the same time Showered Tried to think about what to do next -Do I really need ... read more
