Uhuu! Time for the first weekend. We decided to go to Jeffrey's bay. We are with 11 girls so had to rent 3 cars to get there. Car rent isvery easy and cheap to do, just next to the supermarket where we always go for groceries. It took around 3 hours to get to our destination point but it was definitely worth it. The appartment is very nice, wish we could have something similar in Stenden. We arrived in the evening and had a lovely dinner in the Mexican restaurant just along the street. Next day started with a beach. It is not really possible to swim there because of the ways but it is the perfect place for surfers or people who just want to sunbathe and cool down in the water (like us). The ... read more

Finally arrived to my home for the upcoming module. The room is very simple but new and clean. On the other hand shower is not working, no wifi and no mirror (a bit dissapointing for the girls). They say that everything should be fixed by the end of next week but in Africa it means much more time so we will see how it works.... read more

So it is time to start my new adventure to South Africa. The journey was long and tiring by thanks to the perfect service of Qatar Airways, it was easy to overcome. Nice food (served a few times during the flight), friendly staff, willing to bring you fresh orange juice from business class and entertainment on the screens helps you not to get bored. Moreover, I was lucky enough to travel from Doha to Johannesberg in quite an empty plane so I could lay down on three seats and sleep well. Wish everyone could have that!... read more

The two weeks we spent in Addo Elephant Park were a nice change of pace from Kruger. Instead of waking at 4am to get ready in the dark to go game driving, we spent time and energy rigging up towels and blankets at the windows every night in order to allow the kids to sleep in as long as possible. Instead of eating dry cereal in the car, we'd have toast, coffee, and cereal with milk on the verandah. So civilized! (Ok, not really with a two and four year old!) Most of the time we were staying in a "forest cabin", which is pretty funny as there's nothing resembling a forest here! It was a forest cabin, though, in that it was a cute fake wood log cabin with a built-in bench table and small ... read more

Sometimes inertia is the best way to travel, especially when you're traveling long term, and especially when you're traveling with young children. As any parent knows, the toddler crowd likes routines. Even though we moved around several different accommodations within two main camps in Kruger, we had a routine that we stuck to. This made it easier to adapt to life on the road, even when that routine involved waking up at 4am, getting ready in the dark, then getting the kids out of bed at 4:20 to go game driving in the dark! After two months in Kruger, it was a little daunting to pack up and leave for several days of travel and errands. The first day was easy as most of the driving was in the park so it seemed like a normal ... read more

Geo: -33.562, 26.6418We will be doing 4 drives in total. On our second drive we had a great experience with elephants. The majority of the group came up and walked right past our vehicle walking within a few feet of us. They didn't even notice us. We then found the lions. Two males. They were just lazing around being cats. Got some nice photos of one of them. The other wasn't in a good spot. I had better eyes than the guide on this one. I found them both first. Wifi is not great. Slow and kicking me off but I keep trying to keep you up to date with what we see. Hope you are enjoying them. Sharon's now happy that we saw the cats in the wild.... read more

Geo: -33.562, 26.6418From Knysna, we drove through Tsitsikamma Park. Stopped for a nice walk along a path over suspension bridges. Another stop at a tree about 980 years old. Met up with our driver and made the final drive to Kariega. The times arranged didn't allow us to make the evening game drive. Up at 6:30 for our first one. Saw a wide variety. Another one at 3:30. It is hot finally as expected during the day. Chilly at night and morning. It's about 102 today.... read more
