Hey troops! Sunday arvo here, end of our fourth full day in Kilifi - and time for an update of events so far. Have lots of photos, but am going to put them on in sections so that you don't get overloaded this time.... Anyway, from the start... our plane from Johannesburg to Nairobi was a few hours late leaving due to feral weather (check out the fog). So, we arrived in Nairobi ten minutes after our Nairobi-Mombasa flight was due to leave. We raced through customs, collected our bags and ran over to the domestic terminal on the off chance that that flight was also delayed. After collapsing under the weight of our bags as we reached the check-in queue, we were told that we'd have to get the next Mombasa flight and that ... read more

Well here I am. Mombasa. The last 7 or so months have built up to this and now I'm finally here. Weird. The journey over was relatively uneventful. I had to check-in my hand luggage at the last moment as I wasn't allowed sun cream on board the plane with me so I spent the first journey with just the bare minimum and Nairobi airport was a little complicated to navigate but I arrived in Mombasa just 1 hour later than my expected arrival time (this was due to a cabin crew member at Nairobi not turning up!). Isaiah (the assistant in-country coordinator for i-to-i) picked me and another girl, Karen, up and brought us to the Mason hotel. It's a reasonably nice hotel - has a shower and a Western-style toilet anyway! Another two ... read more

Sup dogs? well i have finally got access to a decent computer - katherine's computer situation has been worked out at the lab, so i am free to update you as to what has been happening. I will write under subheadings for your convenience (how very kind of me!!) PLEASE DON'T FEEL OBLIGED TO READ ALL THIS... I WILL NOT BE TESTING YOU... I KNOW IT IS VERY LONG!! FLIGHT: We were very rudely informed on tuesday morning at about 5:30 am that our 8 o'clock am flight had been delayed and we would have to get an earlier flight (7 o'clock am) in order to make our connecting flight in perth. so we had a fairly mad dash to the airport, but ended up making it with plenty of time to spare. Thank you ... read more

Jambo Rafiki, well hello. just a very quick blog to let you know that we have arrived safely in Kilifi and are settling in. will update you in a couple of days, once Katherine gets her computer sorted at work. We are in an internet cafe-type place now, but it takes about 25 minutes for each page to load, so i might leave it at letting you know we're safe and well and really really ridiculously goodlooking. peace be with you, and also with me. love, brigid. ... read more

... read more

Johannesburg to KilifiKatherine HowellHi all! Because of an overwhelming desire to keep things in order in this blog, I'm actually writing an entry for April 18th on April 20th.... but, I wanted to post the travel route, so I'm sure you'll all get over it! Anyway, just wanted to say that we're here, safe and sound and getting used to Kilifi life, the lab and steamy hot days. Trying to set up skype and the webcam on my work computer so that I can speak to people at home. As soon as that's done, we're off to Kilifi Member's Club (definitely not as posh and colonial as it sounds) for dinner and drinks. We dropped in there on the way - at 6.40pm - to order our meals as we'd heard they literally take hours to ... read more

I can't believe , it doesn't feel at all like it but i am finially coming home, in one day i should be in Heathrow. JOYS! Excuse me if the tone of this blog is somewhat muddled or something, i am exceeeedingly tired, i haven't slept at all and its hard to describe how i feel about leaving. Also i just had my last dormans, so excuse me if i get emotional... It doesn't feel like i am disappointed, i am but at the moment i feel just keen to just get home, get the flight out of the way and sleep.. A lot. Will I ever Taste this Wonder Again? I am almost ready, just a few last minute things to buy but i have tonnes of room in my bag, thats what happens when ... read more

hey all just wanted to drop you a line and let you know that i am still alive. Kenya has been amazing! we just finished our 7 day safari through Masai mara reserve and all the parks in the rift valley. We've seen so many amazing things : lions devouring a water buffallo, a cheetah with 3 cubs, elephants, leopards, rhinos, hippos, crocs, and have taken hundreds of pictures ( i'll send some of the best as soon as i can). We have rented an appartment on the coast for the rest of our trip ( for about 5$ a night) and plan on diving and relaxing on the beach until we go back to nairobi on saturday. i wish you were here, ~Paul... read more

Ill let you work what that means for your self. Hope you are all well. Looking forward mildly to the prospect of coming home Sunday, although not all that much. Imraan and Andy have now gone, on me own in the room for a week which is oright, nice to enjoy 2 fans to myself. But besides the point, just four short days remaining at Dicksons now, and it seems imminent to come home now, but not all too bad, its a weird feeling, it does feel soon but i still feel i have so much more time here and so much more to do. Very very tired after a weekend of late nights and early mornings (if only because of the annoying Potato seller down our alley- (MIAZZI MIAZZI- SHUT UP!!!). Went to four different ... read more

Stay tuned! mousour sana ..... read more
