About two years ago I read a book called Whispers in the sand by Barbera Erskine and it was about a woman who retraced her great grandmothers trip on the River Nile, visiting all the tombs and temples along the way. Well I was totally enthrawled with the descriptions of it all that I decided that one day I would go for the same kind of trip and see all the wonders for myself. So here I am ........ I wonder how many other people are enspired to go travelling after reading a novel ???
Joining me on this holiday is Paul, the man I met up with in Sydney and Brisbane, he has come over to England for a holiday and so this trip is a holiday within a holiday 😊
We left Gatwick this morning and it was cold and damp .... so we really loved the feeling of hot hot sun on our faces as we left the plane. There was a bit of Egyptian confusion as to who was picking us up from the airport and taking us to our boat. This is normal Egyptian organised chaos I gather.
So let me describe out
boat, she is called the Nile Symphony, holds about 100 passangers and 25 crew. It is an old fashioned river flat bottomed boat, 4 stories tall, with deep red carpets and mahogany wood everywhere. The cabins are nice but basic, lovely new bathrooms but the wardrobe isnt wide enough to accommodate the hangers unless you tilt them at a 45 degree angle !!! presumably Egyption people have narrow shoulders !!!
So we've unpacked, put cozzies and sun lotion on, lets hit the sun deck ........ and the sun is HOT !!! layed out on the sun beds for a couple of hours and a little bell rings and tea and cake is served, oh I can get used to this.
It gets dark about 6ish so then it was a quick nap for an hour (its exhausting laying in the sun) then its time to get ready for dinner.
Lovely big dining room and we are shown to our table, shared with 2 other couples, Suzanne and Ian from Wales and Dave and Kako from Scotland and Japan respectively. They seen nice and chatty. Our meal was lovely, lots of it that was served by a very smiley waiter called "Eddie Murphy" not sure its his real name as he is Egyptian but hey ho.
After dinner there was a belly dance show that I thought would be good, Paul was obviously looking forwrd to the dance of the 7 veils ........ however the dancer was ......... how shall I describe her ? ...... well rubbish would sum her up really. No real belly dancing costume and I recon I could have done just as good as her, ok probably not better but she needed to go to wriggly hip lessons to improve.
So bed time, I've been up since 4am so will look forward to my zzzzzzzzzzzz
we're getting a wake up call at 5.30am ...... yes 5.30am and after breakfast we leave the boat at 6.30am for our first trip ..... Valley of the Kings .... oooooo I can't wait.
night night xxxxx
