I hate computers!!!!!!!!! After a frustrating hour of trying to get these photos up, Tracy saved the day while I was chatting on the phone...thanks, Tracy! Take a look, we could not have had more fun if we tried. Caroline even got to do archery which she just tried for the first time in PE and is very good at it. Tracy and I both had massages (Thai lady #1) at the spa, doing shiftwork with the kids. After much persuasion, we even did water aerobics where we got into trouble for too much giggling! We thought we were being so creative to sit on chairs in the water...I think Caroline knew that wave was coming when she got out the camera! The little kids were absolute angels, never complaining or asking for anything. Soup and ... read more

We left Cairo at 11am with 2 cars, 2 drivers, 2 shopped out mammas, 1 grumpy teenage girl, 2 naughty little girls, and Trevor. After a nostalgic teary drive through the desert we arrived in El Ain Sukhna on the Red Sea. After the usual confusion at the Stella di Mare check-in, we got a free upgrade thanks to Tracy. The pool and beach were fabulous as usual and we even got "lau sammat" (waiter) to deliver "asir limon" (lemon juice) to our lounge chairs on the beach. Sand castles and strolls...then a shower and off to the mega dinner buffet. The lentil soup was divine as well as the salads...should have stopped there. Just take a look at the dessert table! Too many Egyptian sweets, dripping with syrup. I ATE TOO MUCH!... read more

We have time for lunch and head off to our scuba diving lesson. As we get the correct sized gear and pay Francine sees a reusable waterproof camera for sale and buys it. An introductory talk is given we suit up and head into the water. We each have our own instructor. Practicing our breathing we paddle out to the reef area. Angie and Fran are separated and meet momentarily during the dive. Photo opportunity. Angie strikes the pose and Fran almost loses her mouth piece with laughter. We dive to about 5-7 meters and are close enough to touch the coral(but we don't). The water is so clear and the coral is colourful. Orange, purple, yellow, pink. There were schools of fish everywhere. Some of the fish were Twobar Anemone fish (Nemo), Yellow Tail Surgeon ... read more

On the drive to our beach camp, we passed many resorts of beach huts or buildings that have all been deserted as the tourist industry has died in this area. In 2004, there was a bombing attack on the Israeli tourists, who were the main customers of the area. Since then, the Israelis haven't returned, so all of the buildings that were started to be built in the booming times have stopped mid production and the others have closed their doors, with many of thebeach huts falling into disrepair. Now days, Russians are the biggest customers staying in one of the big flash hotels along the water. Intrepid are the only customers of Sawa Camp, although the Shiek who owns the property has ideas to advertise to individuals as well. After a couple of hours in ... read more

The last ten days of our cruise were filled with parties, packing and some sightseeing thrown in for good measure. We had a smooth cruise up the Red Sea into Safaga, Egypt. This is the port for Luxor, which is called the greatest open air museum in the world. Many passengers took an overnight trip to see the temples and tombs and other ancient marvels in the Valley of the Kings. Since we have spent a lot of time there we opted to stay closer to the ship to take care of a number of situations regarding the end of the cruise. Many passengers were quite unsettled by the turn of events and having to fly home rather than cruise back to the United States. There were concerns about traveling with valuable jewelry through airports and ... read more

Live aboard, Sharm el Sheik 10 to 16 May 2009 Now welcome aboard the Snapdragon, my home for the next week. It is a 30 metre long vessel with 4 decks, 6 crew and can hold 20 guests. My week it had 5 including me. So lots of space. At the end I had done another 19 dives, 4 dives a day, bringing my total for the 17 days up to 32 dives. Doubling my amount of dives I had done in the previous 8 years. Man was I stuffed. The dives included; drift dives, cave dives, night dives, boat dives and wreck dives. The highlight of the diving was the SS Thistlegorm. The SS Thistlegorm was a supply ship of the British Navy, heading to Tobruk, to assist the 8th Army and the Australian army ... read more

So we left Luxor at about 5pm and drove five and a half hours to Hurghada. This is where the group split. Some people finished after a week and so stayed on the bus which was heading for Cairo, 10 of us got off for our week on the coast. Into our rooms for 11pm and out on the town to the Hard Rock Cafe for free drinks! And what a sight it was, it was just full of Egyptian men and western women...and a small toddler to add to it just walking around loud thumping music, people smoking and drunkards. A nice introduction to the resort town of Hurghada! The following day I relaxed on the beach for a few hours, surrounded by russians (yes I had to be quick to spot them) and for ... read more
