Friday 24th November onwards ..... Friday was a free day in Cuzco, unfortunately both Andrea & Nessie picked up a really nasty stomach bug & we're both wiped out & bed bound for the time we were in Cuzco. Vicky ¡ I went out for a bit of an explore but the other two managed to come out only once to by some bits for the Inca Trail but most of our time was spent hanging out in our room eating pizza & watching TV . Luckily we have another full day in Cuzco (today in fact) to see the sights before we leave. The Chaps who were taking us up the trail came to meet us that evening. William and Smith (I kid you not his name was Smith) and gave us all duffel bags ... read more

Well, well well, Sorry i have been extremely slack on the internet front im afraid, but that is not to say ive forgotten all you poor souls, not travelling or in close proximity to me!! I have been working in Ecuado for a month now and am loving it so very very much, the animals are amazing, ive been working with lions (ex circus), jaguar, puma, tonnes of monkeys, Cabeza de Mates, Coatis, all the small cat species, Andean speckled bear cubs, and so much more..its been very stimulating and refreshing working on the front line in places where the animals come in straight after being confiscated by the police..the place is run entirely by volunteers so its very hands on (really raw stuff, safety is kinda your own responsibility)..ive done things like go into enclosures ... read more

We finally arrived in Cajamarca after a long and bumpy bus ride from Chiclayo. Cajamarca is an old historical city in the andes of northern Peru and is most famous for being the place where the Incan empire began to collapse to the rule of the Spaniards. The Spanish conqueror Francisco Pizzaro ambushed and captured the Inca emperor Atahulapa, and eventually executing him after he handing the Spaniards all his treasure. We decided to go there after hearing good things about it from other travelers while we where in Chiclayo and Mancora, otherwise we probably wouldn’t have ever come to this place. We arrived in Cajamarca late on a rainy night, not too welcoming…and took a taxi to the central Plaza de Armas to the best hotel we’ve stayed at so far on this trip. We ... read more

South America November 25th 2006

At 2950m above sea level Tupiza is ringed by the rugged Cordillera de Chicas. Surrounded by amazing landscape of rainbow coloured rocks, hills, mountains and canyons, deep gorges and is reminiscent of the American Wild West. Hence, please don’t fall of your SEAT at the site of me on a horse. This is actually part of the area where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid was filmed and therefore it would have been rude for me to have not ventured on a horse riding tour. Most of the actual movie was filmed approx 6 hours from here and as I had never watched the movie decided to make my own! I was only supposed to do a 3 hour tour but was enjoying myself so much that I decided to continue for the whole day even ... read more

South America » Bolivia » Cochabamba Department » Cochabamba November 25th 2006

Cochabamba has a big Jesus modeled after the one in Rio. You can take gondolas up to visit him and climb up his spiral spinecase to his chest/underarms for about 12 cents. The Gondola Jesus park is sponsored by Coca Cola (which, by the way, is impossible to find cold). We also stopped by the main PC Bolivia office to pick up some books and Newsweeks and ended up getting a full tour (and a cookie) and talked with the country director. The office is a beautiful, sparkling, four story building. The volunteer lounge is two stories and looks like a suite from The Princess. They have a full kitchen, fridge, microwave, oven, plush couches, tables, DVD library, carpet, everything. Their computers have lots of stuff on them like Skype so I'm not buying the automated ... read more

South America » Bolivia » La Paz Department » La Paz November 25th 2006

This Saturday started out with lots of rain. Why does it have to rain on the weekends and be sunny during the week? Alejandro, Linnea and I were deciding what we should do with the day so we wouldn´t be cooped up inside. Going to see a movie was suggested but what we really wanted to do was go to El Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley) just outside of La Paz. Finally at about 2PM, the rains ceased and the sun came out, intense as always at this altitude. The change in weather decided our plans, and the next thing I knew, we were out of the apartment and heading towards the main road to catch public transportion to El Valle de la Luna. About five minutes from our building was our first stop at ... read more

The story of getting to Punta Tombo is quite a humorous adventure and I haven't had the time to write it down yet. Everyday is an adventure. Punta Tombo had thousands of penguins. It was absolutely amazing. It felt like I was hanging around thousands of creatures that would just give me the wing/fin whenever they felt like it. They were curious about who we were, but wouldn't give us the time of day, or would just ignore us. They are very loud creatures. It didn't smell to bad either. I will publish more when I get the chance. I just want to get the pictures up for my penguin lover friends to see.... read more
