South America » Chile » Araucanía » Pucón November 25th 2006

22 November, Wednesday... Got into Pucón bright and early and decided to ignore the nice woman at the bus terminal who offered us the chance to stay in a nice hostel and went off in search of one we saw on the internet instead. That involved a lot of walking back and forth until we gave up and found a family run guesthouse with no atmosphere which we decided would have to do. There's one main activity to do in Pucón and that's to climb the great big Volcano Villareal which dominates the skyline. It's just what you'd expect a big volcano to look like, massive, conical and with lava pouring from the crater at the snow covered summit. We booked ourselves onto a climb for tomorrow (you have to go with a guide as it's ... read more

South America » Argentina » Tierra del Fuego » Ushuaia November 25th 2006

We finally bid goodbye to Ushuaia, its remarkable mountain surroundings and its debatable claim to fame. Before we leave we head for a spot of culture in the musuem housed in the ex-prison. Ushuaia actually started life as a prison colony, much like Australia, with the first handful of residents being accompanied by a dozen female 'volunteers' to get the colony going. God knows what sort of person chooses such a lifestyle, but we can safely assume they had some issues of their own. As things progressed, future inmates were allowed to bring their families along with them to live outside the prison itself. Otherwise visiting hour would have been a bit of a non-event. The prison musuem was pretty interesting - the obviously harsh conditions and some of the prisoners were colourfully described. One ... read more

Hallo an alle zu Hause! Heute melde ich mich nur ganz kurz hier, da nicht sonderlich viel passiert ist, ich aber dennoch ein kleines Wochenresuemee hier hinterlassen moechte. Also, was ist alles passiert.

You know, I realized that the prior two entries follow a common theme. That theme is obviously sadness, regret, and hurt. As I stated in the disclaimer, I merely wanted to express myself. Also, I thought that everyone could relate to my feelings at one point in there life or another, and I know how healing that can be to be able to relate with other people. Well, putting all of that drama aside, I have decided to devote an entry to the friendships that I have made here and the memories I have mastrange that we all have met at this point in our lives in this strange place. Furthermore, the fact that we all get along so well and have a blast together is righteous. Friendships are what keep us going. They are what ... read more

I had heard a lot about how beautiful Bariloche was, what with the snow capped mountains and the crystal clear lakes, and I wasn´t disappointed. This place is incredible. The views from all throughout town have you looking out over the mountains and the lake. It feels like you are in the Swiss Alps, or at least how I imagine the Swiss alps to look, and with the heavy emphasis here on chocolate, ice-cream and designer clothing, I don´t think it is far off the truth. There is a heavy emphasis here on going trekking into the mountains for a night, but with a limited time frame, I opted against that and instead decided to undertake a bike ride around the lakes circuit. The fact that it is 60km long, and that my gluteus maximus was ... read more

Back to computers, cars, and travel blogs. We´ve just finished a tremendous week of hard labor and good eatings. There were 4 of us travelling friends helping out three local people that run this farm way up in the mountains from town (4 wheel or two feet only to get there). Most of our week consisted of clearing a field to plant corn in, moving soil from one place to another, and digging holes and weeding around baby trees. In between digging, there was the constant reward of this incredible view of the town below and the surrounding mountains. I liked to imagine how the food we were helping to grow someday would go down there and they´d make a great almuerzo with it. We realized last Wednesday that the following day was Thanksgiving- how appropriate! ... read more

South America » Argentina » Buenos Aires November 25th 2006

This week I have been having tango lessons and I love them! It is such a beautiful, magical dance. There are two really hot teachers - Pablo and Mateus - and they are very sexy. There is something about being in Buenos Aires and dancing the tango that makes them really hot. I think Pablo is a bit of a flirt - the girls are all besotted with him. He must notice that we all stand around drooling over him. I think I stop breathing when he dances with me - he holds you so close and the movement seems so natural. I don´t know what has come over me since I arrived here - I am completely besotted with Buenos Aires and tango. And of course the teachers! The tango is a really amazing dance. ... read more

Soooo... we didnt manage to get a watch, or go to Ilha Grande BUT we did manage to go to Buzios!!! Btw, this is Mohini on the blog now so I do apologise if its not as impecably written as Sonals entry! After much deliberation (we thought about staying in Rio, then we thought about going to Parati) and then when we got to the bus station, we totally changed our minds and bought tickets to Buzios! To sum up - Buzios is BEAUTIFUL! It really was like being in a movie - there were sooo many secluded beaches and the sea had a bluey- greeny colour and well...sitting on the beah eating fresh fish and sipping on a caprihna - I think is the ultimate in relaxation! Although... actually getting the vendor on the beach ... read more

South America » Argentina » Santa Fe » Rosario November 25th 2006

So yesterday, which was Friday I think, instead of taking the bus to Rosario as we had planned, we rode with Fabio. No, not the "I Can't Beleive It's Not Butter" guy, an Italian friend of Giovanna's. He rented a car and was driving here anyway, so we hitched a ride. We are staying at a hostel in Rosario that is owned by a friend of Fabian - the Argentinian who is staying at the hostel in Buenos Aires. We arrived just in time to scurry over to the Rosario Central game at 7pm. We made it just after kick-off and watched Rosario defeat Quilmes 4-2. These teams are in the top division of soccer in Argentina, the same as Bocas and River, so the level of play was pretty good. It was pretty incredible to ... read more
