SO day 5 has been and gone, along with days 6, 7, 8 and 9!! But we haven’t had phone reception or internet since day 6, so there is a lot to catch up on!! We are LOVING it in Brazil, and have found weather much like Mount Isa, but let’s start with day 5. Day 5 consisted of not much. Relaxing, which was nice after being non-stop for a few days!! We got to sleep in (9am at least), made it to breakfast and then headed down for a stroll on the beach. Now, when we say stroll, we mean walking but being harassed by locals every minute asking us to buy a sarong, beach towel, bikini, hat, dress, shirt, photo, painting, bracelet, bag etc or “a chair to sit on in their slice of ... read more

Day 10 & 11-15th and 16th September Well our time in Rio is nearly at an end and we spent our penultimate day doing...very little! We’ve had a fabulous time here at our first stop. But we’re looking forward to hitting the road and going to see new things and meet new people. So we spent the day preparing for our long bus journey to Foz the next day. It’s a big one, 24 hours and we knew we were going to find it tough! We rounded up the day by getting a pizza from Dominos, no less! Dominos-UK, take note, your Brazilian counterparts do much better pizza, with fresh basil on them and everything, delicious. :-) The next day we packed up our things, bought a few last souvenirs, got some cash and prepared to ... read more

Tudo bem?!

Day 7 & 8-12th-13th September We’ve been told off for not updating the blog for a couple of days (sorry Ralph and Fiona!) so we thought we’d do a quick update. To be honest, Day 7 and 8 were very very quiet! The hostel faces a main street and neither one of us are sleeping very well so we decided not to burn out and rest when we felt we needed to. However we did find a better all you can eat restaurant, including drinks the bill came to a whopping R$40. That’s 16 whole English pounds. Bargainous! We’ve also been told it’s we can get cheaper ones outside of Rio as well! The weather has also been fabulous and we’ve just been relaxing and enjoying it. We also skyped a lot of people on those ... read more

Day Four-9th September We awoke very early again and took advantage of the great Pestana Breakfast, once fed we returned to our room to pack in preparation for our new digs. I spent most of my free time when not packing before leaving the hotel either sleeping or watching the Rio rooftops for interesting birdlife, there were some lovely blue, yellow and green finch like birds skittering around but none would come close enough for me to effectively photograph until the arrival of Dave the Carioca Pigeon, although our time with Dave was brief it was special and will remain with me for always and although Dave was a rather ugly and common bird.. and most likely a female pigeon heshe was the ONLY bird willing to sit close enough and still enough for me to ... read more

Day 3: 8th September Not too much to report from Day 3 to be honest as it absolutely pissed it down, hence almost no photos! We suddenly felt like we were in London as the day before had been glorious, the weather is as unpredictable here as at home! We decided to use the bad weather to get some things done, such as blogging, washing..and finding somewhere new to live! Yes, it was our last day in the Pestana Rio Atlantica and we were moving to much cheaper accommodation. We went onto Hostelworld and found a place called Stone of a Beach (say it fast in a Portuguese accent...get it??!) on Rua Barata Ribeiro and went for a walk in the pouring rain to check it out. Once we got there it seemed pretty cool and ... read more

6th September 2010 We made it! That was one looooong flight; at least we weren’t sat next to any crying children  Monday 6th September started at 6.00am in London frantically packing the last things into any bag or box we could find. We eventually got it all done however and headed off to Heathrow. Had a bit of an emotional moment with Mum and Dad after we checked in, felt very sad that it would be six months until I see them again, so to cheer ourselves up, we went and had a slap up breakfast after we’d gone through security and had our very first travelling related wedding present! Simon, thank you very much for that, we had mojitos to celebrate our travels and they were delicious! Didn’t realise that BA now have this ... read more

7th September Day two We awoke at first sparrow fart in the morning, went downstairs to get some breakfast “Miggers kept telling us to try the brekkie” and we were not disappointed, they provided the good old classics like bacon, eggs and toast as well as exotic fruits and a squillion different kinds of breads etc so a fussy eater like me was not left hungry. Although the weather was a little hazy we decided to go upstairs to the pool and try to relax a bit, by the time 6months is up we will be hardened backpackers even so we could both do with a bit of chill time, the last year has been rather intense on us both workwise, weddingwise and in preparation for this trip, i was intent on getting burned and Liz ... read more

... read more
