Well here we are in Beautiful Rio....well beautiful that might be a little over the top...it is absolutely pissing down with rain!!! The taxi ride from the bus station started with the taxi driver trying to charge us $35 which is about $17.5USD and when we complained he insisted it was correct and got out his book to prove it, only to find that the price in the book was cheaper!!! dumbass i mean really he should know his prices better!! Anyway we got dropped off in Copacabana and went in search of our hostel in the pouring rain...after a fruitless search and being soaked we saw to english girls and we asked them if they knew where the hostel was...they didnt but said that the hostel they were staying at might know. So off we ... read more

So made it to the airport and caught the plane to Rio De Janeiro, Arrived Monday 17th April and caught an extortionately priced radio cab to Ipanema.... Gary lost his wallet in the taxi and we got caught in a monsoon looking for a hostel..... Not the best of starts!! After 24 hours of rain things did improve.... Tuesday took the cable car up Sugar Loaf Mountain, but unfortunately it was overcast..... Wednesday went to Corcovado to see JC and took the cog train up the mountain.... definately the best views in Rio and timing was excellent as the cloud broke for sunset.... To clarify DIRTY BARS are not what you might think..... the name comes from a French traveller in our hostel called Omar who referred to the street bars where the locals drink and ... read more

...... until yesterday anyway ;-) We arrived in the rain and at first glance the airport looked like Heathrow, we thought we had gone full circle!! After fighting our way through the taxi touts we got a bus to Copocabana giving us a good look at the City straight away (it took over an hour as it was rush hour). Rio certainly is 'the city of contrast'. The first thing we notice is Rio is BUSY, always so much going on, its fun! With the beautiful surroundings and diversity between rich and poor in the city our photos won't do it justice (especially Lynny's). Our hostel is great, like a little relaxation den owned by Newton who loves to show us backpackers round the city. Due to the weather and tiredness our first day was spent ... read more

Geo: -22.969, -43.1856Leaving the previously found shelter with my mother in Asuncion. On my unplanned way back to Germany...Luckily I was able to stopover in Rio de Janeiro and my onward flight to Frankfurt with Lufthansa was delayed by 48 hours. Lufthansa paid for each of the 180 passengers nothing less than the Copacabana Palace hotel...Still remembering...Just left Asuncion on a controversy issue with my mother...My mother intended me to stay and go to school there...The one and only time in life I remember my father actually made a decision to help me rather than himself...Bad enough...it was the only good decision he ever made...Nothing good followed...Ok, don't get me wrong...I loved Paraguay but way back than it was a hiding place of German criminals running away from the judging system of Germany...I am talking about ... read more
