Scuba Steve

Right so i have finally decided that it was time that i got my own blog (seeing as everyone else has one) this is a record of my journey around (hopefully) the world. Heading to South America and Egypt before hitting Europe. I will be stopping in London for a year to earn some pounds before heading off again. I intend on being home for the 2011 Rugby World Cup, but before then i hope to see as much of the world as possible. I will be training to be a SCUBA instructor in Thailand to help pay my way, and we shall see what happens.

The Need to leave London was getting too great!! i hadnt been on holiday since New York in Jan and even though i was leaving in 6 weeks or so i couldnt handle it. Where was this famous English Summer? All i had seen was rain rain and hail!! After arriving last year to a heat wave i was eagerly anticipating Summer this year, especially after the weather we had had in April........ Well Summer still hasnt happened here yet and its the middle of July!! i think i made a good move heading to Canada for quick break and to see some Sunshine :) I went over there to see a girl Liz and i had met in Egypt the previous year. According to her she lived in the "armpit of Canada" but seeing as ... read more

I recently went to New York to visit a girl (Sarah) I had met in Peru on the Inca Trail. We had kept in contact over the last year, and I decided I needed a break from work and the London gloom. Leaving on the 13th I was once again hungover (seems to be a recurring thing when I need to be travelling the next day) after a night out celebrating a flat mates birthday and only getting around 3hrs sleep. My flight left at 8:20am so that meant being at the airport at 6:30 or so….but none the less way too early!!! As I was leaving my sister popped out of her room and threw the camera down the stairs to me (I knew id forget something) and I was on my way. Luckily on ... read more

Go the All Blacks!!! Clean Sweep of Europe :) The trip was pretty cool. I went with my Cousin who came back from France with us. But the day didn’t exactly start off too well. I had been out the night before for a “couple” (well that was the plan) and ended up having a fairly large night. So getting up at 7am to catch a 8:15am bus was none too pleasant. The London Tube lived up to its name and once again was delayed, so we made it only just in time. Sitting on the bus as we left London I was feeling seedy to say the least. Luckily our two tour guides we known to me so I was singled out for extra ribbings and mockery…..just what you need when your hungover. There was ... read more

On the weekend I went on a day tour to Stonehenge and Bath with Rachel (cousin). The day started off brilliantly with the tube not running into central london where the pick up point was (due to engineering works). We took another tube line to try and get around the problem. Our tour was leaving at 8:30am and at 8:20am the tube stopped...we waited....and waited...then the driver announced that there was a train stuck at a station further up and all trains on the line westbound werent allowed to move!! hmmmmm looks like we are going to miss the bus.. so i called the tour companies number and told them the problem. Luckily the bus was making another stop at 9am for the last pick up and that was only a couple of stops away on ... read more

Its only been 2 weeks since we came home from France so I think I am getting better at updating this, though I do notice that its been over a month since I last wrote one...Well as it has transpired it is now a month since we got home and still this blog is waiting to be published!! Tickets were booked for an overnight trip to Paris on the national express bus leaving at 10pm. We arrived at the station hungry and had BK for dinner before boarding our bus. Thinking we were going to take the Eurotunnel we arrived at Dover with anticipation, but sadly we were chucked on a Ferry at 2am to make the crossing. We slept most of the way so didnt really see the white cliffs of Dover except for the ... read more

It truly has been a long time since that last blog....but I did say it would be a while. We are well and truly settled now and are enjoying living and playing in a strange big new city that we now call home. I thought I would give you an update on what has been happening or not as the case may be.... We live in a place called North Acton in a 4 bedroom house with 7 people (actually 10 at the moment as we have a flat mate swap over happening and a couple of dossers) and the others are all Australian. The place is pretty run down and we were looking at moving into another flat but have decided to put that off till the New Year as we have found out that ... read more

Well where do I begin... our entry into Brasil was interesting if not weird. As we came up to the boarder on the bus we had to get off and go through immigration, while the people just going to the falls for the day could stay on the bus. After obtaining our visa´s which requires filling in 5 lines on a piece of paper, and getting a stamp (no questions no bag search´s...drug runners dream) we sat down and waited for the next bus to come along to take us further into Foz Iguazu. As we were sitting there we realised no cars were stopped or searched, it was an open border it seems and anyone could just drive on through. Although there was a wierd thing that occurred, everytime a bus pulled up, everyone had ... read more

After a 10 hour train ride (during the day with air-conditioning working only sometimes) we arrived to the train station with literally 20 men wanting us to go to their hostel, and as we were the only tourists on the train they all came over to us. We had already decided on a place so that made it a bit easier but the problem was that we had no idea how to get to the place so had these men following us pointing out their hostels saying that theirs were so much better etc. We finally found it and were so happy to be in air-conditioning again. The owner had told us that the rooms were LE35 a night but we managed to get him down to LE10 and had breakfast thrown in. Nicely done I ... read more

This one is a long time coming....We left Egypt almost a month ago and are now settling down in London for a bit of a long haul. Egypt was a country full of beauty, mystery, heat, annoyances, and stunning scenery. Once again, we are so going back there. We started in Cairo and arrived at about 9:30pm and the heat hit us as soon as we stepped off the plane. The flight was delayed by about 2 hours so we were wondering if our taxi driver from the hostel we had booked would still be there. When we walked out of the customs area, there were about 50 or so people all with signs and shouting, thinking we would never find our guy liz turned and looked at me as if to say, oh no this ... read more
