Our Arrival was like a breath of fresh air, unbelievably! After only a few minutes in Bolivia you could see the immediate change in the people and thier surroundings. It felt like we had actually arrived to were we were supposed to be travelling... For those of you reading this who are Argentinan or have a big affection towards Argentina, don´t get me wrong! ..Argentina was a fantastic, beautiful (and huge) country with very friendly inhabitants ... read more

The last 10 days in Bolivia have flown by, but as usual we have managed to cram plenty in. Due to a road block we took a circuitous route to Copacabana (on the Bolivian shore of Lake Titicaca) from Puno (Peru) via La Paz - 11 hours on a bus instead of 4! Still, the effort was well worth it as Copacabana was fantastic. We arrived to beautiful sunshine and happened upon a festival of some sort, with cars adorned with flowers and bands playing! Darryl even found a bar showing English football so he was very pleased! We found 2 large hills to climb - one with bizarre rock formations which were stunning to explore; the other hill was a perfect perch for watching sunset over the lake. We even found a lovely hotel with ... read more

We Left Uyini and had a six hour bus journey to Potosi, the highest city in the world. At over 4km (4060m) above sea level it literally leaves you breathless. It is a mining town with the tour of the mines been one of its highlights. According to the Lonely Planet the tours involve ¨scrambling and crawling in low narrow, dirty shafts where work practices are medieval, safety practices are non existent, and temperatures vary from below freezing to a stifling 45 degrees¨. The mine itself is a cooperative so each miner works for themselves taking what they can and then selling the ore to the coop. On a daily basis the miners are exposed to noxious chemicals and many of the miners die within ten years after entering the mine mainly from silicosis pneumonia. If ... read more

Hey, In Sucre for the past few days and it is so nice not to have to pack and move everyday. Great nightlife here so two really good nights out with lots of dancing. Lazy days with long lunches and afternoon siestas, no January blues here! Will probably go to Santa Cruz tomorrow (these names probably mean nothing to you as I have barely heard of them!). Will keep at the photos and hope to be up to date soon. Lx... read more

I only had about a week and a half to go through and see as much of Bolivia as I could. I came into the country through Copacabana and moved on to La Paz. I Loved La Paz it had so much going on and the food was for the most part good. If your a fan of street Markets of any and all types then its the city for you. I felt like I was in Asia or what I think Asia would be like. It was in La Paz I did the trip on the Death Road. Then I moved on to Potosi see the mines. After I went to Sucre which is kind of a hot zone for Politics at the moment. I found it to be a great city all in all. ... read more

Ive only got a few more days left here in Sucre! Its hard to imagine that a month has already passed! I´m heading off to Salar de Uyuni with Sinead, Joeri, and Adam on January 1st. We will take a three or four day tour and then joeri, sinead, and i will head over to Argentina. I plan on living in Argentina for 2 months. I´m quite excited. I was never planning on moving to argentina for so many months. in fact, the original plan was to live in sucre for 5 months! This is what i love about traveling.. .the unknown. you can never predict what is going to happen once you leave your door and hop on to a plane. The second half of our stay in Sucre was much better. The rain stopped and the sun came out. We were even able to wear shorts and sandals occasionally! Our day out to Jurassic Park was interesting. The hostal owner told us to take "Micro A" to the end of the line which was the entry gates to the park. That would have been the case but our driver went home for lunch, or at least that's how it seemed, and we were left with a 20 minute walk past the smell cement works. Then we had to climb a muddy slope to the gates as the road up isn't quite built yet, in fact they are still excavating it!! Once inside we were treated to half an hour of the BBC's Dinosaur documentary (royalties presumably ... read more

Our first few days in Sucre were similar to Potosi - it rained, rained, then rained a little bit more! Still, it is almost 2000m lower and so it is also a bit warmer. That makes a BIG difference!! A major problem with the rain is the effect on our future plans. We had hoped to spend a few days here before flying on to Santa Cruz. The rain was so bad for two days that the flights were cancelled, leading to a backlog, and the roads are a bit of a mess after the downpours that even bus tickets are hard to come by. Therefore we have to stay here for a whole week before flying onwards. It’s not so bad though as the Hostal Pachamama is cheap and comfortable. (Thanks Hans, Ingrid, Lykke and ... read more

Sucre organized a grand march. Thousands of people from Sucre marched down four main streets to meet at the plaza de mayo. My street was one of the streets where the march started so i went with one of the aunts and her children. Everyone was wearing Sucre for capital shirts.. waving sucre flags.. and setting off loud fire crackers. Once we got to the plaza, there was music.. everyone singing songs.. and organized chants. for some reason, i kept getting choked up and felt like crying. I really have never met people who was so proud and cared so much about their country and wanting to be capital. I took tons of pictures so once i put them on a disk.. ill post some up. i contacted the US embassy in La Paz to make ... read more
