Monday 3rd July I got a transfer boat to the Wana Taki, which is a big old ferry converted to sleep about 30 travellers. It has a bar, three meals a day (plus morning and afternoon tea!! LOL), kayaks, snorkeling gear, DVD player, air-con sleeping deck, HOT showers and you can jump in the sea from the top deck!! :-) I met Jim and Abby - a really nice couple. We got a welcome drink and then got to eat lunch - and it was fantastic! Especially after the food at Kuata!! We went out in a little boat to snorkel with manta rays. As we approached the channel where they feed we saw a fin come out of the water - looked like a big shark, but it was actually a wing tip of a ... read more

New Zealand is a very beautiful place. I've heard that the South Island is even more beautiful because it has more dramatic scenery but the North Island is very beautiful too. Both islands have very drastically different environments within a very short distance which makes it so beautiful. Its colder than I was expecting. I was expecting a San Diego type winter but I think it's more like Central California. I heard that this is the coldest winter they have had in 10 years. I guess I timed it perfectly. Coming here is kinda like going back in time when your coming from Southern California. It reminds me a lot of Ireland because it's really green, it rains a lot and inbetween the bigger towns/cities are heaps of farms. Also, there are no major highways, most ... read more

We left Pardoo, a homestead in the bush, and drove to Broome. We took a detour to Willie Creek (Crocs galore!) then arrived for Sunset at Cable beach - Wow! Broome rocks, the Kimberley Club (Hostel) is plush, the people are awesome, the weather is hot, the sea is warm, the atmosphere is chilled - its AMAZING!... read more

Well, I'm back at my temporary home (Gillian and Russ's) in Sydney battling a really nasty cold, which started the morning after my birthday party. Probably had something to do with a few late nights in Queenstown and a late night Jul 1. . . My last 2 weeks in NZ were fabulous. Aukland is quite nice. Like Vancouver, but without the mountains and all of the weather. I managed to find rugby tickets, so sat in the Terraces to watch the June 17 battle between Ireland and the All Blacks. Apologies to all of my Irish friends, but I cheered for the All Blacks - when in Rome. . . It was a great time. I didn't really know anyone in Aukland, so I went by myself and sat with a couple of boys from ... read more

I havent had my laptop runnign in the past week and a bit so I appologize for my absence. Frustration of reformatting my harddrive kicked in and I decided just to bring it in. $20 later I had an up and running laptop good as new. Yee-Haw. Sorry, on to the good stuff. Or... well, whatever you want to call it. Last week I met Poppy for the first time. For those of you who dont know (which is almost all of you), I ahve distant cousins in england. My little family has another branch that I barely know about. One of these family members, Poppy, is now living and working in sydney. This came as a huge surprise and excitement for me as I barely knew this family existed let alone thought of meeting time ... read more

Update from Zoe Wellington was a nice city. The museum was very interesting (not often i say that) they had a lord of the rings exhibition, which was superb! We also went to the parliament building and watched mps arguing from the gallery - very amusing. In the evening we had a good catch up with Tony and Mel, which was lovely. The next day we got in a flying tin can. This is no exagerration (can't spell that one) it held 12 people and the pilot was 2 rows in front, Dan loved it, me not so much. We landed in Picton then jumped on the bus. Tonight's stop was Nelson where we learnt how to play poker and did a bit of wine tasting, although not enough in my opinion! We then moved on ... read more

So i'll start with the football I guess, still a bit gutted that we got knocked out on penalties again. We battled hard for 60 minutes with only 10 men and I really thought we might knick a heroic goal but I guess it wasn't to be. Without sounding like a sore loser - the referee was a muppet - sure Rooney shouldn't have pushed Ronaldo, he should have punched him in his fairy face and that would have been worthy of a red card (and a pat on the back). Anyway, rant over. New Zealand! Is so far very very nice. Away from the flat, barren landscape that was Australia and into a landscape that reminds me a lot of England, rolling hills, green grass, woods, sheep... lots of sheep! Landed in Auckland a few ... read more

The end of last week was a laidback trip down south. We've heard the whole time we've been here the south would be incredibly cold. Freezing even. I had dad ship me long underpants from Sydney just for the trip. How cold was it, you ask? Oh about 18 or 19C. Upper 60s. That's freezing cold to Australians, or at least Perth-ians. Perthites? You get it. Day one was a quick drive to Mandurah. Really the only thing school related we did was point out a road or two with a Nyungar name and learn the word for pelican... which I've forgotten. We checked into our incredibly nice cabins where I got a room and a queen bed all to myself and 3 other girls slept in a loft above me with 6 beds in it. ... read more
