One of the things we were keen to do in Wellington was take in a few of the Lord of the Rings movie locations which are peppered around the area but require a car to get to. We checked out the price of hire cars when we first arrived but most companies were sold out and the ones with any cars remaining had upped their prices ridiculously so the idea was shelved. Now that we had Lina with us again complete with her car, we were able to head out today in search of all things hobbit-related. First stop was to Kaitoke Regional Park where we were reliably informed we would find the location for Rivendell, home of Elrong and Arwen. Leaving the cityscape of Wellington behind us was uplifting in itself (as you will have ... read more

Here we are in Perth now, a simple four hour flight west all over the same country. Australia is such a huge place its hard to comprehend. We are now in Western Australia which is one of the least populous states. Only 2 million people live in this state and most of them live in and around Perth. With an area four times the size of texas and about a zillion times the size of the UK its safe to say there is enough room to swing a cat. Perth itself is ............ nice, it doesn't feel like a busy city and there is loads of open space and the surrounding landscape is very green. The pace of life seems pretty chilled and people are all laid back, although Perth does not seem to be the ... read more

Hey Folks! From the plane it looked like we were going to land on Mars - the rugged dessert with its rays of red looked angry and somewhat strange - Is it Ayers Rock or is it Mars - nothing in sight at all and then as we got closer to landing - a few trees were visible and then well a couple of roads! Hooray - looking forward to staying here already! Ok, so we've come from Port Douglas, and I thought it was hot there - its even hotter here in Uluru at around 42 degrees during the day and around 35 degrees in the evening...We got off the plane at around 12 noon and it was sweltering, the heat was so strong it felt like someone was blazing a fire right in front ... read more

Haven't written a BLOG entry up for a quite a while so thought you may like this one? We took the New England Highway from Sydney and passed through quaint, small country towns. We stopped at Tamworth overnight in a motel, having decided not to stay at Armidale, which was just as well as our car would have been written off by giant hail-stones. The area was declared a disaster zone! As you can see we did some window shopping and just look at what you may get for Xmas next year from the WI? We went into Brisbane to see the lights and fruit bats, it is odd being in a hot climate and listening to xmas songs about snow, sleigh bells etc. We like the Aussie humour and some houses we passed did have ... read more

We will start off by wishing everyone of our family and friends a very Happy New Year! May 2007 bring you all good fortune and happiness. We have had a very exciting new years experience in Auckland, one of the best yet! In order to keep the evening safe, we decided to book a hotel room downtown in the CBD, nice and close to the action. We stayed at the "Quest on Queen" serviced apartments, which turned into quite a story, as we will share with you soon. The hotel was 2 blocks from the Viaduct Harbour, and 3 Blocks from Sky City (the Tower). This location can definitely be credited to Melissa's intuitive planning beforehand. Once we checked in we were very impressed by the room that we received...10th Floor, and a great view of ... read more

Hey everybody. Hope everything is well back home. We left you guys off from Nadi International Airport I believe. So the flight was delayed by about an hour. Noone seemed to care. It is something that we are learning quickly in this country. Nothing is ever on time. Not the flights, not the buses. Noone seems to care though. It is amazing that a country as 1st class as New Zealand, with major companies and what not, are not more time conscious. Not that it really matters to us, but it is weird having a watch and not really following it very often. Its nice to know the time, as a Canadian anyways, but the locals don't really mind it would seem. So other than the flight being late, everything went smoothly. At the airport they ... read more

Landed in New Zealand late in the eavening after a quick flight via Syndey. Nice to be in a bit of a cooler climate. Went straight to the hotel from the airport and a had a quick walk around town. An impressive full moon was on display. Laskeuduin Uuuteen Seelantiin myöhään illalla ja menin suoraan hotelliin. Hottelin jälkeen otin pienen kävelyn keskustassa, aika hieno täysikuu oli esillä.... read more

This morning we woke up to find the temperatures had soured to about 35 degrees and as we felt that we had covered enough ground yesterday, we deserved a day off on the beach! Heading out on the great tram system once more, which we had now discovered were not policed in the ticket purchasing area, so managed to ride for free (shhhh don’t tell the authorities!), we headed to St Kilda a little beach only 20 minutes from the city. On arriving we both felt that we had obviously been spoilt by the beautiful beaches on the east coast, don’t get me wrong- by English standards this was a lovely beach, but the sand wasn’t as soft as the beaches back north and they were certainly more looked after. As the hours passed and the ... read more

Hey guys, U can all now breathe a sigh of relief, I'm now back in Sydney, so I won't be appearing anywhere near u for a while again. But after what seemed like an eternity on the plane, I've now just got to get over my jetlag, I was up at 9 this morning, i know unbelievable. But plane flight was alright, lots too drink, not even like I wanted to, but it started from the first round on the plane, had a jack daniels, then went to give my glass back and the flight attendant filled it up, and then everytime he walked past. Not really complaining, but meant I had to keep topping up to avoid the hangover whilst in the air. I've only been back a few hours and have really had it ... read more
