Hot Water Beach, Cathedral Cove & Haihei Beach We wanted to experience the hot springs at Hot Water Beach, so set off from Auckland in time to get there for low tide (the only time that you can experience the hot springs). We stopped off at Thames for lunch on the way at Cafe Sola, which did the job nicely. The other reason for coming into Thames though was to go to the Goldmine. Much to Jason's disappointment (he wanted to do some panning) it was closed for maintenance for the next couple of weeks. So, we actually arrived at Hot Water Beach a bit too early and decided we could fit in Cathedral Cove before low tide, as it is only about 6km further up the coast. Here we did the 1 and half hour ... read more

So I drove south with a heavy heart after saying goodbye to the fantastic people I met at Koru Creek. I arrived back at Tranquil Heights in time for lunch and enjoyed a night of sheer luxury and great company. The next morning I went into Warkworth to meet Wendy’s cousin, Sarah a great girl who had been a Shepard in the south island and had so many stories to tell. I ended up staying the night with her in Matakana where she took me on a tour of all the hidden pleasures of the local area. The next morning I headed off to the Coromandel along the coastal roads. In New Zealand it’s hard to concentrate on the road when there is so much beauty around. After staying the night in a lovely hostel I ... read more

On the 3rd of March we arrived in New Zeeland and our 3rd adventure started. (I will post a update on Australia soon... I promise... I will...) For the first three nights we stayed with a lady outside Auckland and Chris got some quit heavy work for a start. She wanted help to start concreting her driveway and I wasn’t of much use in doing that. So Chris got to do long hours and I felt like a maid, serving him water and minding the child. Julian enjoyed the wheel barrier though! On the 6th of March we where off to Wilderland Trust. Chris had spoken to someone who was living there so they knew we where coming. I was completely taken by surprise by the place. Such an amazing property with huge possibilities! There ... read more

Updated 19 MAR 07 The previous night was both fantastic and strange. After lots of drinks and a sumptuous BBQ dinner we adjurned for the night to bed. and fell instantly to sleep. It was a big, Big day. We were woken up in the early hours of the morning by a strange noise. We con not recognise it. It just grew loader and louder and louder. It was vaguely familiar but I couldn’t quite place it. Anyway it lulled me back off to sleep very quickly. Quite Strange that. I found in the morning that the ground as also all wet. Still I couldn’t place what had happened. Its was all very familiar, yet alien all at the same time. I was told later by a local that this is what happens when it ... read more

On the 26th of february we arrived in Auckland after a very nice 10h flight with singapore airlines. We even got a "Cornetto" icecream after a good meal. And we could see all the movies we wanted to see in a cinema anyway. Auckland is quite nice, but for us almost "just another city with high buildings". One day we did a boattrip around the harbour, the other day we did separate things. Thomas was going to the island Rangitoto and climbed a sleeping volcano, later walked around Ponsonby, the hip district with many artists and the gay community. Katharina discovered Waiheke, an island where the rich live. She had quite an adventure, as she almost got lost between rocks and the sea. But fortunately nothing serious happened, "Just" a few bruises. After we picked up ... read more

"Sorry, we're fully booked for tonight, please excuse any inconvenience through that." Na freundlich sind sie, das muss man ihnen lassen. Mein Magen war zu diesem Zeitpunkt schon nicht mehr so friedfertig gelaunt. Also weiter, aha eine Frittenhäuschen. Naja ich wollte ja was richtiges also weiter. Und ... read more

Our route took us to a town called Thames the main reason we went there is because we didn't wanna stay in Auckland again the drive tok about 5 hours with a quick pit stop for dinner at Mc-ie D's! I thought NZ was meant to be full of sheep ..? Well we think we have seen more cows since we have been here! Today Zelie took to the wheel and we have driven to a place called Manau beach which is meant to be one of best surf beaches in teh world with the longest left hand break. We are staying at a palce called solspace which has old railway cabins for us to sleep in! Its on teh top of the hill over looking the coast line and is very peaceful with such outstanding ... read more

City of Sails and Odds = ca. 40 Millionen Schafe und nur 4 Mio. Einwohner (davon 1 Mio in Auckland) Hab zum ersten mal das populäre L&P Getränk gekosten. Wie Cola - sehr süß und viieeel Kohlensäure. Ernähre mich hier übrigens richtig gesund - das muss kund kundgegeben werden, da brittisch/amerikanische Essgewohnheiten vorherrschen! Nehme also vorerst hier nicht zu. Aber das ändert sich ja immer schnell. ... read more

Hey everybody So i hear that it has been snowing a lot at home. Hmm that sucks. No snow here. Although it has rained a lot. Paihia was almost like a monsoon everyday. But we have had sun and been in the ocean for most of our time in Whitianga so it is a nice way to finish our New Zealand adventure. We are off to Cairns, Australia on Thursday morning early, so it will be a lot different than NZ. We are in a place called Whitianga right now. It is on the Coromandel Peninsula. Our hostel is right across the road from the beach, and we have been bodysurfing atleast once a day for a couple hours. We are both getting decent at it. Some big waves have taken us all the way into ... read more
