Chris, Frederica and Julian

Pilgrimage

Our journey begins!

On the 17th of Dec 2005 our lives changed completely by a new little soul entering our journey. We named him Julian and for the beginning of his life we have been taking things abit slow, resting in his mums, Frederica, homecountry Sweden. But very soon this will change coz we, his crazy parents, have bought three world around tickets so before his first birthday he will have been on 3 continents! :)
We, Chris and Frederica, first met in San Marcos La Laguna by the beautiful Lago Atitlan in Guatemala. Frederica had been living there for the past two years and Christopher came to visit a friend he had travelled with in India.
Together they travelled in Mexico, visiting Palenque amongst other places, and then they lived in Fredericas little house for a couple of months in Guatemala. During that time Frederica decided to join Christopher on his onward travels to India. They stopped by in Sweden on their way to Delhi.
India... what happened in India??? :) well, they went to Pushkar and did a puja by the lake and some weeks after they found out at the hospital in Varanasi that now there was a little baby inside Fredericas belly. Amazing news... big happiness, smiles and surprise. They called the becoming grandparents on two different sides of the planet: Chis parents in Australia and Fredericas mum in Sweden. Great news!! :)

We came back to Guatemala in the morning of the 4th of June (my birthday!). Our first thought was to stay in San Pedro for a couple of months but that was impossible. Our home was in San Marcos and so where the friends. I write more about this time later. Now months have passed and I have been in Sweden as well for 1 month visiting family and friends. While we where there Chris moved in to a house that belongs to a Swedish lady, Kristina, that I know from last time I was living here. The house has very high standard from what we are used to in Guatemala. But it feels necessary to be living like this now with Julian. This first blog I just wanna post for you to see how we ... read more

We arrived a bit earlier in Karamea then expected so the man who was in charge of the place had gone away for the weekend to Christchurch. I called to say we where coming and he informed us that we had to bring our own food... that is very unusual for a woofing place and something I feel they really have to write in the woof book. The journey down had been more expensive then we had thought earlier so we really wanted to stay out of hostels as much as we could so the news about food was not to welcomed. We had read about Rongo Backpackers in the woofing book and it sounded like a very good place. But things are never as you expect them to be and for us it was ... read more

After leaving Wilderland we decided to go to the south islands westcoast and do some woofing in Karamea. From Wilderland we took a bus to Auckland and continued by air down to Christchurch. In Christchurch we had planned to have a relaxing day in the gardens but ended up visiting every bookshop in search for some literature for my paper. I am writing about the relation between the Shekinah (Gods presence within and among people in the OT) and the Holy Spirit. So if anyone has an interest - email me. :) We ended up finding nothing but a tiered baby, sore backs and some new warm baby clothes. The next day we where going to go with the TransAlpine railway across to Greymouth and we where both looking forward to it. It is said ... read more

March 3rd 2007

On the 3rd of March we arrived in New Zeeland and our 3rd adventure started. (I will post a update on Australia soon... I promise... I will...) For the first three nights we stayed with a lady outside Auckland and Chris got some quit heavy work for a start. She wanted help to start concreting her driveway and I wasn’t of much use in doing that. So Chris got to do long hours and I felt like a maid, serving him water and minding the child. Julian enjoyed the wheel barrier though! On the 6th of March we where off to Wilderland Trust. Chris had spoken to someone who was living there so they knew we where coming. I was completely taken by surprise by the place. Such an amazing property with huge possibilities! There ... read more

In Bangkok we stayed at a very nice place called Suk 11. It’s a guesthouse in an area of Bangkok called Sukhumvit. We left Chiang Mai to go south but as well to meet up with an “old” friend of ours that we travelled with in Mexico, Nov/Dec -04. She was then travelling around Central America and just a few months after we said goodbye in Guatemala she had a terrible accident in Cuba that ended her journey. She was badly injured and taken to hospital in Miami and then returned to her home country Australia. When we saw her now she had just had her last surgery in her leg and seemed very positive on her recovery. Many things had happened since last time we saw her but surprisingly it almost seemed like yesterday when ... read more

After spending some days in Pai we decided to return together to Chiang Mai. Pai wasn’t what we had expected, comparing it a lot to San Marcos, but instead it was more of a bunch of foreigners who had started restaurants and bars. The nightlife seemed to be great but not much for us to do. The journey back went a lot smoother with a bottle in one hand and some toys in the other baby was asleep for most of it. Jippie!  We came back to Chiang Mai on Sunday the 8th of October and Chris started his course on the day after. While Chris has been in school Julian and I have been sightseeing. We went to Chiang Mai Centre of Culture and Art, Chiang Mai National Museum, Tribal Museum and Ratchdamenon Park ... read more

We arrived in Bangkok 29th of September. The flight was long, 2 ½ h to London and then 11 h to Bangkok. We had another baby next to us, a little girl who was a couple of months older and many kilos lighter… We tried to put Julian to sleep and then put him down in the bassinet they have attached on the wall in front of your seat but he only slept for a little while and then wanted me to come. We walked around with him, took turns, and then I held him while he slept. Was so tired after the flight!! But we made it…  We stayed in Bangkok at a really nice place called Suk 11, in one of the many small sois (lanes) off Sukhumvit Rd. It is like a ... read more

So... here it all begins! On the 28th of September we leave Sweden and our world around trip starts!!! with a visit in Thailand. Our flight goes to Bangkok. There we spend a couple of days shopping before we head up north to Chiang Mai. In Chiang Mai Christopher wants to take a basic thai massage course and I, Frederica, wanna see if I can find a nice teacher for learning silverwork. I would like to learn how to make fittings for stones in rings, necklaces and bracelets. Then Julian and I will be exploring the city while Cs in school, hopefully we find some cool place to hang out and maybe meet some thai playmates! :) We have 10 weeks in Thailand so after maybe 3 or 4 weeks in the north we wanna split ... read more

On the 21st of july we took the overnight train up north from Gävle to Bastuträsk. It was a long journey, our train left around 23.00 and we arrived at 10.20am the next morning, but the train was so nice! Last time we were on a night train was in India, Varanasi to Delhi, and I have to say that I enjoyed this one more! We had our own little cabin with three beds on top of each other and a little sink. Julian and I slept on the lower one and Chris at the top. In the morning we could open our door and a window to get some more light. It was a great journey! So much better than we had expected, especially Julian... he slept like the angel he always is... :) My ... read more
