So I know it’s been a while since our last blog, many reasons for this and all will be explained. When we arrived back at The Ozi Inn after our aborted attempt at WWOOFing everyone was pleased to see us and it felt great to be back. We had heard before we left the first time that the hostel was changing ownership and Raff the current manager had handed in his resignation. Mark and I had previously spoken about what work we could do and because of Mark’s visa status we knew that working at a hostel would be perfect for us. We had a chat with Raff and he immediately said we would be perfect and would gladly arrange a meeting for us with the new owner when he arrived. The next decision was where ... read more

Blogs are like buses, you wait 2 weeks for one, then 2 come along at once! I'm blogging this now as Verlie is off to Singapore tommorow and I will be "Sans Laptop" for a few days, so.............. At the very start of this blog, a few months back, I wondered what tales the coming pages would hold, the highs, but also the inevitable lows that we would document. I was, and still am fully committed to making this blog an accurate representation of our experiences, and not just the good bits to make you think we are basking in everlasting sunshine, that we never have to work, and everything is wonderful, this blog is a document of our lives and as we all know, life isn’t always so perfect. I’m writing this from the relative ... read more

Ok, First things first, here are the slideshows from Kings Park and Little Creatures Brewery that should have been in the last blog, sorry about that! So we settled into Backpacker life in our second week, we found what we believed to be the cause of the strange looks and curiosity coming our way in our first week, namely the area we were sitting in was the usual smokers table, and I’m not talking about woodbines……We’ve since got to know everyone and made friends, so our initial concerns about our age, and general not very approacable demenour were unfounded, I say OUR age and demenor, I really mean my age and demenour. We went on a couple of day trips on the local trains we went ... read more

So we’ve been here a few days now and I know Mark has blogged about our interesting night in a local pub but maybe not so much about what life in the Ozi Inn is like and all the other info that happens on a day to day basis so let me fill you in. The one thing I can say about the Ozi Inn is that the bathrooms, toilets, kitchens and bed sheets are clean. In all honesty if they weren’t Mark and I would have checked out the following day. The curtains are questionable and there is a lack of plugs in all of the sinks which can make washing up a bit tricky. Maybe if we were in our early 20’s this would be something that wouldn’t be commented on but I have ... read more

When were back home again and looking back Today will be one of the days that will be one of the first that springs to mind. A perfect day. Having booked a hotel that was just 0.5km from the start of the run at the WACA to minimise travel stress in the morning . Philip manages to get lost on route this despite the fact the WACA has massive floodlights is next to the river and virtual impossible to lose from the locations we are in. After franticly charging round we find ourself a local and we have managed to walk about half mile the wrong way! we managed to get back at the start line at 7.29am for the 7.30 time we are supposed to arrive. The weather is raining and windy but the run ... read more

T-1 day to race day so after getting back from mandurah we set off for city centre hotel so we are handy for run in the morning. The less things that can go wrong tomorrow the better with make sure there is a bath in the room for us to die in after run, and hotel has spa as well. we go for a nice walk round the waca to see where we be running. Then the heavens open, standing there cold and drenched 12000 miles from home panicking about the stupidity of raising money for a charity and how silly we will look if things go wrong. Then as if Bobby is watching over us his god mother who lives in Perth rings us and invites us round for tea and comes to pick us ... read more

What would Bobby say? Why do Japanese people take pictures of EVERYTHING! I mean does anyone actually look at the two million photos an hour they take. I know I m cute but is someone in Japan really going to care about seeing pictures of me they are all bonkers. We spend the morning in the city doing boring stuff before going to Kings Park for the afternoon. Kings Park is a 4.06-square-kilometre The park is a mixture of grassed parkland, botanical gardens ... read more

We are awoken at three am by torrential rain and thunder , Philip mumbles to go back to sleep as we have work in the morning moans something about cardboard and goes back to sleep. Muppet He neither has a job and is 12000 miles away from his old one. In honour Of his birthday the weather turns typically English for the day, overcast and cold this is not what we signed up. I am staggered by the amounts of good wishes on Philip's facebook page I didn't know he knew that many people, I m sure he has invented them. We decided on a day in the city and meeting Jason for lunch. Philip then take us to get a chin ease massage on his feet and legs. Then we set off the esplanade and ... read more
