Hi all - thanks to all who sent in comments - much appreciated! Well, we've rattled round Perth pretty fast in the last couple of days It was, of course, Anzac Day on Monday as we arrived (and hence they had Easter Monday yesterday - Tuesday) - but unfortunately we missed all the parades due to being zonked. Still, lots of jollity all round with the Navy in town and lots of blokes of all ages wandering around town with chests full of medals. They take it very seriously here - rightly so I guess. The weather was great and we took in a walking tour to check out the wide range of architecture - sorry still not cracked the picture loading business. Visited the Bell Tower with a peel of bells from St Martin's in ... read more

I've finally left Perth! Perth wasn't quite as hilarious or as memorable as Darwin, and is actually a bit of a bland, characterless city with little going for it. However, I will take some long lasting memories from that bland characterless city (and the month before when I visited cold, cold England for four weeks): Darwin-London-Turkey-KL-Perth *Liz, the girl from Cork who I sat next to on the way home to England and chatted for thirteen hours straight. She also had 6 toes on each foot. Nice girl, shame about the feet. Losing Liz at the airport without getting her number. *Ahmet the black Turkish dude who laughed like Frank Bruno and made my Mum pole dance in a pub in Turkey. *My trip to the passport office in Liverpool where I look like I'm on ... read more

Today the two girls from my room, Phil and Uli, made our way to Cottesloe beach in the afternoon armed with a picnic of fruit salad. It was a warm day so we headed into the water straight away playing in the waves. We spent the rest of the afternoon laying in the sun absorbing some vitamin D, reading and eating some fruit salad. We watched the sun set and took heaps of pictures. I'd been to this beach before a coupe of times and you might remember me saying this is the beach Heath Ledger used to hang out at. It was a great way to spend the day and it's one of my favorite beaches.... read more

In the morning I headed straight to The Job Shop to check out about work. I had a chat with the girls there and had mentioned to them about my friend Jo working out in New Norcia and that a job might be coming up there and they had just found out about it themselves. So within an hour of that conversation i got a call from the boss at New Norcia and the job was mine! Only thing was that it doesn't start until April 3rd. I'm super excited to head out to New Norcia and just happy to see my bank account growing instead of draining again. I head out there on a bus on April 3rd. It's only about an hour and half north of Perth so not too far but there is ... read more

My last day in Sydney was raining once again so I got myself all packed up and checked out but just stayed at the hostel all day working on my computer and job searching. Not a very exciting day really. I decided to head to the airport a bit early so I hopped into a shuttle and got out to the airport. My flight to Perth went out as normal but didn't arrive into Perth until 11:15pm. I had to wait until 12:30am for a shuttle into the city so I didn't get in to my hostel until 1am. Not so fun coming into a full room in the dark and having to make my bed and even worse, a top bunk! Ah well, so glad to be back in WA!!!!!... read more

Well the travelling has begun, after several hours of crap economy seating and feeling like Im upside down (lack of sleep is not good!) I finally made it to Perth. Perth is pretty cool, nice and hot, lovely beaches and some wicked bars to head out to in the evening. I knew the exchange rate wasnt going to be good, but man its expensive! and Sydney is worse! Better find a few weeks work soon.... or hope my car sells! Anyway, I'll tell you a little bit about my travelling so far.... Monday 17th Jan - leaving on a jet plane! The only bit worth mentioning is the fact my awesome dad surprised me on the train on my way to heathrow by getting on a few stops after me, and then kept me company and ... read more

Happy new year to you all! I've started 2011 with quite a bang. I spent the last few days at Sarah's house mainly at the swimming pool. We met up Sarah's friend and her kids and we all had a good time in the water. Isobel (Sarah's youngest) loved jumping into our arms from the ledge. She didn't want to get in the water at first but then she loved jumping in. Lucinda is a good swimmer as well. New Years Eve was a bit quieter. Sarah and I mad a bunch of nibbly food like Sushi, nachos and pizza. Sarah was so tired she couldn't hang on until midnight but I stayed up and talked to people on the phone. On my last day with Sarah we got to go out to the Kalgoorlie golf ... read more

Flying east back to the west We arrived into Perth International airport at 10pm local time having spent the previous two days gorging ourselves on delicious Indian, Malay and Chinese food in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. We had absorbed as much of the bustling Asian character of these friendly cities as we could, savouring their multitude of flavours, and storing it up until next time. We were feeling very sad to leave Asia, collectively it's diverse countries had been our home for the last year, and on the short five hour flight back to the waiting western world we reminisced about the incredible times we'd had. I was nervous about the re-entry to western civilisation and all the changes that we would be faced with. How can Australia compare with our fantastic experiences so far? Will ... read more

Bought a Dayrider and took the train to Perth centre. The public transport system is surprisingly good and cheap, with some of the buses free. Went up the belltower, this was Perth's millenium project and has the 12 bells from London's st. Martins, the same bells that were rung for Nelsons Victory and funeral. Went onwards to Kings Park, the worlds largest city centre park, with great views over Perth. ... read more

On arriving at Perth airport, I met Chris who I would be staying with for the week, and Melissa, his daughter. They gave me a lift back to Chris' place where I met Ilka (Chris' wife) and their dog: Ali. They were all really lovely people, and had all sorts of crazy luxuries, from a private room with a double bed, and a swimming pool, to conditioner and fluffy towels. That evening Ilka proved to be an awesome cook, making rice with 3 choices of curry, fish, and some weird things which I had almost forgotten about called vegetables. The next day I spent the afternoon in Perth where I ran into 2 girls who I had met in Cairns, and as I had nothing much to do, I went with them to see the new ... read more
